Excellent research & foresight into the potential pitfalls of insulation in regards to the R-Values, how R-Values can vary depending on the climate where you purchase your tiny home, and how mobility can affect your choice of insulation!

@Daniel Larsen BSW And I appreciated Adelina’s mention of ppl who have what is technically called Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS). Great job once again.
@dannolawson2633 жыл бұрын
@@marirose19 I fully agree I am one of those people after being exposed to high levels of toxic chemicals in active duty. It is the reality of life for many which is why having control over the construction aspect of your tiny house is a great option unlike trailers or RV's that typically have formaldehyde incorporated into their construction to prevent mold.
@marirose193 жыл бұрын
@@dannolawson263 Oh wow Daniel! I have an unfortunate terminal illness that causes me to have only mild as opposed to severe MCS. Still I have to be mindful of it & would likely need a VOC free tiny house. Hope you don’t experience too many shitty days.

Because R value works when it’s too hot too, a good rule of thumb is buy the best insulation that fits that you can afford. The batts have a little paper flange that you can staple to the framing. And we did a combination of closed cell boards, foil faced on both sides, polyisocyanurate with a fiberglass center strength band. We cut and installed the flat boards and then called the pros to foam around edges sealing the boards to the frame and filling in gaps. Took him a minimum of time and material as we were doing the fill work.

I am always happy to see you 💟. No matter what the topic is. Tiny house living is interesting to me. I don't think I would mind living in one . Because I am really short but my husband is 6 foot 3 inches. I don't think it would work very well for him.

Great job explaining insulation and the different pros and cons. Definitely one of the most important components to building, along with windows. As long as one addresses air quality (and you have), it's a green light for the most insulation you can get! Money well spent for the lowest cost of ownership. Again nice work explaining! 😊

I have been doing a lot of research on tiny homes. I am looking to downsize and live a more comfortable lifestyle that is more to my liking. I am 67 and looking for change. The insulation information was something I was wondering about and the best to use in my area, Vermont. Can’t thank you enough for all the information. I like that it was coming from an independent woman who is living the lifestyle. Thanks so much for the information. Be safe and stay warm!

Well Adelina! There you go again doing another very informative, educational, & thorough vlog. Gurl-we just can’t stop you nor do we want to of course. All very well-said & joyfully presented. Ty. Even with all my health issues & my husband’s, you still make me believe that we can live the tiny home lifestyle & we sure want to. Even my 87 yr old Mum is considering it now.💙💫🌀🤗And PS. We’re feeling that nasty polar vortex here in NH USA too. Ugh. Winter is beautiful-if it could only stay around 60-70 degrees I’d be thrilled.

Re: fibreglass insulation. The little filaments can get into your skin and itch like a bugger. So when you shower, use cold or warm water, not hot, so your pores close instead of open, then the filaments will slide right off your skin. Jon in rural BC, Canada

this is off topic but am wondering what you do for maintaining your weight? You are vegan right? What do you eat in a day?
@myBIGtinyhouselife3 жыл бұрын
Yes I’m vegan and try to eat mostly whole foods but still enjoy treats like vegan ice cream and wine. I basically eat when I’m hungry. If I’m not hungry I don’t eat breakfast. If I am I’ll have cereal or yogurt with granola. Lunch is leftovers and dinner a veggie curry and rice or a pasta dish etc. The fact is that when you don’t eat animal products and eat mostly whole foods you naturally eat fewer calories but get more fibre and less cholesterol and saturated fats. Hope that helps.

I use the Shea Moisture Jamaican Castor Oil leave in conditioner and then scrunch in a little of the OGX Coconut Curls Creamy Mouse. I also only use an old cotton T-shirt to blot my hair when I get out of the shower if I’m wearing it curly. A towel makes it frizzy.

@@myBIGtinyhouselife What you meant to say is that somebody can be sensitive to certain specific substances. One can't be sensitive to chemicals in general because everything is made out of chemicals, water, air, all food, our bodys, plants, animals, literally everything. I know it's pedantic, but it's an important distinction. Because creating fear of 'chemicals' is a marketing ploy to get people to pay lot of money for snake oil. It corrodes trust in science and potential life saving medicines like vaccinations.
