This is what I like to do. I almost always like to have a 6160 keypad on my Honeywell Vista 20p system when I use the Tuxedo keypad. The reason is simple. If the Tuxedo keypad breaks, it can leave you with no way to control the system otherwise. My most favorite place for the backup 6160 keypad is right on the panel itself or right beneath or benext to the panel. Yeah, you might have to hike to the panel and the siren might be blaring for a few minutes but you will be able to disarm the system! And, it is a good idea to keep a floorplan of your house that shows where the 6160 keypad is located. If you use wireless key fobs, use a 6160RF keypad. However, since I use the 6160PX keypad, I typically like to have the 6160PX keypad right beneath or benext to the tuxedo keypad. Or, do this trick. 6160PX keypad by the garage and the tuxedo keypad by the front door. But, I always like to have a backup 6160 keypad on hand when using the tuxedo keypad.

I find that high end users all THINK they want touchscreens.....but after they live with them they have me mount one at the panel closet for the needed features and put the 6160 or 6460 at the main entry point for the ease and quickness of use. I started on 6137's, 38's and the excellent for the time, 6139. I never try and program with a touchscreen and made a silver 6460 into a ''Programmer'' with bed of nails clips set-up. I guess a 64 with RF would be my ideal KP!

This video is helpful, but I have a question. I just acquired a keypad for my VISTA-21iP panel and on the back, it has a sticker that says it is a TUXWIFIW and another sticker that says it is a 6280W, aren't these two different keypads? It has a Z-Wave sticker and an ethernet port on the back too.

They are different as in the 6280 does not include Zwave and the TUXWIFIW is Zwave compatible.

I have a Vista 20 system with wireless sensors. Is there a temporary way to turn off the speaker on the keypad? I keep getting quick successive beeping from a Comm Failure. My system is doing this over and over and it is 4AM in the morning and about every 10 minutes or so it starts with the Comm Failure beeping again even though I clear it. (My code plus 1). The next time this should happen I would like a way to get some sleep and troubleshoot the problem in the morning. Hoping there's a way to bypass the beeping/speaker. Thanks. Phil NYC Area

I hate my 6150 keypad, but if I replace with 6160 keypad, will I have to reprogram everything(zones, wireless fobs, etc) or is that retained?

You will not but press and hold 1 and 3 at the same time to get the address of the 6150 before switching

How many 6160RF can be installed with the Vista20p?
@joshuagriffin28073 жыл бұрын
The 20P can only handle one RF receiver only one. if you have multiple 6160rf then the receiver side of the key pad will need to be disabled in the otyhere

So if you by a 250$ key pad you can't back door the sys

Hello John, The main functions of the touchscreen keypads are for zwave control and aesthetics, or ease of use. The manufacturer doesn't recommend programming with these because it needs to power cycle and reload the data from the panel, which is where the data is stored. Any time you exit programming, the touchscreen keypads have to reboot automatically. Typically back door is a feature that shouldn't be used often. It is usually used to enter programming mode by someone who doesn't have the installers code. You would want to make sure to always remember your code or find a safe place to store it. The touchscreens need to be in console mode to have a * and # button to hit, so there's no way to get to those buttons automatically on power up. For these reasons, we like to recommend to also have a programming keypad, even if installed on the alarm panel door.

6460 is the most user friendly and easy to program...touch screens suck from my experience.

Thanks for the input! Some users do prefer the touchscreen keypads over push button ones but of course that preference can differ among different users.

I agree with you, the 6460 is the best keypad to program with, however, its display is hard to see in the dark, and the panic buttons at the top are kind of weird. Touchscreen keypads are not the best to program with, but they can be used in a pinch. We're talking about people with no other options in this video.
