Biore is NOT Cruelty Free, owned by Kao Chinese, plus exports directly to China. For all we know those blackhead strips could have pulled out a kitten’s eye. Buy it if you don’t have a conscience but remember the blind kitten. Edit... just so you realise this is an analogy based on the stickiness and skin stripping ability of Biore Strips on your face and prefixed with ‘for all we know’, I mention Chinese owned company as that’s why Biore in many peoples opinion cannot call themselves truly cruelty free and Koa the brand owner has a number of companies that export directly to Chinese markets. Many KZbinrs will already understand the concept of product being subject to animal testing. I won’t buy the brand while the law is in place due to my views on animal testing. Some got a little stressed by the comment but my intention was to make people aware a brand labelling products as ‘cruelty free’ is not as black and white (as is our cat).

Hyram, I am a beekeeper, propolis is a wonderful product the bees use to seal the hive, keep the hive clean of bacteria and viruses. In beauty products, it works as an antibacterial, antifungal and antiviral..it is known to help heal the skin, especially wounds. I make a tincture out of it and use it for all kinds of things.

I’m so happy that I found your channel! I’m a licensed esthetician and I can say that I can agree with you on so much. It’s so nice to see someone who really knows what they are talking about and I really hope people take your advice! Especially the younger generation. I work for Ulta and I can’t tell you how many young girls come in asking for Kylie Skin and Mario Badescu and so many other brands that can damage their skin. I hope you continue to make videos and educating people on skincare! I would really love to hear your thoughts on the brand Elemis. I feel like it’s not too popular yet because they are from the UK but I feel like they have a lot of really nice products 😁
@elopix234
@elopix234 4 жыл бұрын
Lauren Dlubak actually Elemis isn’t better than Mario Badescu (But at least they don’t use parabens I guess). For example the hydra balance day cream: the eighth ingredient is already phenoxyethanol, afterwards there are 29 (!) other ingredients in concentration less than 1% (negligible !) among them are 4 almost undegradable polymers (micro-plastic), five other which are weakening the skin barrier or have a negative impact on the environment. Other products aren’t really better with chlorphenesin, palm oil, PEG‘s and lillial (highly allergenic).

I'd love to hear about the core differences between high end skin care and drugstore brands. Like, is it just a price mark-up or are there more expensive, better ingredients in department store skincare?
@Carla-ou2yb
@Carla-ou2yb 4 жыл бұрын
Most drugstore products are decent quality (as long as they don't contain perfume/scents) but they hardly have any effective active ingredients such as Vitamin C, AHAs etc. However, many high end products are just way overpriced and often contain a lot of fragrance which is a big no no because of the high irritation potential. Often the fragrance is also the most pricy ingredient in the product.

Hello Hyram! I would love you to make a video specifically for mature skin and prevent / treat the signs of aging. My mother is in her late 50s and she is mainly concerned with some wrinkles and sagging. I was thinking of giving her a moisturizer, or ampoules or a serum and it would be great if you told us what kind of ingredients are most suitable in these cases (and if you recommend cheap products it would be great! Lol). Thank you for all the evidence-based information you give us, it is a huge help. 💕

@@easter.a1722 just saw this, but my comment was 7months ago when i start to use it and now i had change it into different routine. After longer period i find this skincare routine doesn't moisturize enough. After 1-2 weeks of good result it started to flop. Either my pores getting bigger or my skin developed more texture. Now my recent one is: Cleanser: Simple Micellar gel wash Toner: Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner Moisturizer: Benton Bee High Content Steam Cream, SomebyMi AHA-BHA-PHA 30 Days Miracle Cream. Serum(?): SOMETHINC level 1% Retinol I figure that i need some exfoliating property in my routine and it's time to use Retinol. But i try to use the mild Retinol as starter. So far im liking this better than my previous one.

i just realized why everyone trusts hyram after watching like, 2 of his videos. He gives no bullshit, no bias, he's completely transparent about how he feels about the product, he clearly knows a lot about the different ingredients in skincare, and he doesn't exclude different skin types that aren't his, and if i'm remembering right, he has combination skin which means he's used products for dry skin and oily skin, so he's had experience with both, meaning that a lot of people that watch him will get a skincare product that works.

My skin has been freaking out lately too and it’s also because I was trying too many new products at once. I’m currently compiling a chart with ingredient lists of all the products that have ever made me break out in an itchy rash or just a huge hive on my cheek. I’m also including products that I’ve used long term with no issues so I can compare the ingredients. Some brands that I’ve used with absolutely no adverse effects, even though most of them do use essential oils: -Pacifica -Acure -Willing Beauty -Clinique, pre-2013 and their formulas have changed since then so now I have no idea I would love to hear what you have to say about these companies even though they do use some essential oils. I don’t think they are as bad as Origins though, that was just excessive! The one brand that has consistently made my face itch and break out in hives every time I use anything from their skin care line is L’Oreal. I know they own other brands too, but any skin care with the L’Oreal name have always made my face itch. It’s always after a week or so of consistent use though. It doesn’t happen immediately. I may just have to see an allergist to find out what it is in skincare that I’m allergic to, but right now I’m having fun making a chart. Love your videos! Thank you! 🦋

Yes, oxidized linalool can cause skin reactions, but as long as the essential oil or linalool extractive is pure and fresh, it is not just safe, but beneficial. However, limonene can cause skin sensitivity so it's best to be avoided.

I'm in love with this brand! I tried out the calming gel because of your videos and along with the vitalizing toner it really helped with my rosacea when it flared up and couldn't tolarate anything. I couldn't believe the results! The beta glucan serum however balls up on me, I don't know why, it doesn't sink in. I would suggest you try the vitalizing toner, I think it's really amazing. I heard really bad things about the lime peeling gel, like it really hurt to remove it... that scared me away. Also anything citrus in the title...

@S P Yes, you have to use little because all the serums spread really well. This has a bit more sticky texture. I have very oily skin with mild rosacea. If I pair it well with a light moisurizer then I don't have this problem but sometimes it still happens, probably because of my skin type. So I wouldn't talk you out of it. I still use it, I just liked the rose and the snail serum more, (the propolis one was a bit avarage).

I was cracking up when you talked about drinking olive oil to "lubricate your vocal cords"...it doesn't even touch your vocal cords. Hahaha! But seriously so many people drink random stuff that they think will "lubricate" their vocal cords. If it DID touch your vocal cords then you would choke and cough (which is a reaction from the vocal cords to get rid of the foreign olive oil and send it down the correct pipe to your stomach) I'm obsessed with vocal cords like you're obsessed with skin. :) I also want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video! UGH! Just so much amazing info! I had to watch it three times to get it all and make my decision on skin care products. Love love love it!!!

@@danajenkins1310 😁 if you have acne all over your face and it keeps spreading I would suggest going to your doctor, that's what I had (basically a skin infection) mine prescribed an antibiotic and 5% benzoylperoxide gel, it was gone in a month! Now when I have a random pimple (e.g. after I picked at my skin or hormone-related) i just dab some benzo gel on there and it gets rid of the pimple and seems to prevent spread When I still used benzo daily and had very sensitive skin and didn't feel like spending a lot of money, I used the basic Cetaphil cleanser and advanced moisturizer (I think that was what it was called), both did its job well! But didn't prevent clogged pores, I need to exfoliate for that Now I spend a lil more and I love the Clinique Liquid Facial Soap, the extra mild one. Its very similar to a cleansing milk, it doesn't contain SLS and feels super creamy so after I wash my face it feels soft. If you wear makeup it wouldn't remove that completely though For exfoliation I personally like Cosrx, for daily I use the Clarifying Treatment Toner on a cotton pad, it has ridiculously low level of BHA and AHA but I can use it daily on my sensitive skin. For more intense pores I use the Blackhead Power Liquid. I tried Paula's Choice Calm 1% BHA and The Ordinary glycolic acid toner but I'm not able to use it daily without getting red, with Cosrx it's not a problem! And finally my HOLY GRAIL moisturizer is the Clinique Moisture Surge, the Skin Fortifyer one (not the 72h), it's non comedogenic and feels light but it's the only moisturizer that doesn't feel sticky and prevents dry spots and it really plumps, you can use it on your eye area too. The Cetaphil one works great but this just feels a bit more luxurious! I only cleanse PM, AM I just rinse my face with water and moisturize, PM I use the Cosrx BHA/AHA toner and also moisturize. This keeps my dry skin hydrated and plump but also helps keep my pores unclogged but without any irritation. I find using less products is more. I hope something in this lecture helps, our skin type is a monster!!

Dagmar E I have been to the dermatologist twice in the last 15 years 😂 I found out the first time (15 years ago) I can’t do anything with benzoyl peroxide. I have extremely sensitive skin. Even the lowest dose topical really upset my skin. I remember doing a oral pill minocycline maybe. And finally the dermatologist said the last resort was getting on birth control for the hormonal acne. They recommended Cetaphil cleanser and CeraVe moisturizer. That seemed to work for about 3.5 years before it stopped doing anything really. So I decided to get off the birth control and go back to the dermatologist since I figured by now they would have newer products to try. Same thing, nothing with benzoyl peroxide, but was given a retinol topical. Helped ok. till we got pregnant and I had to get off everything. I currently use Clinique Gel Moisturizer, that or CeraVe seems to be the only thing that isn’t too heavy on my skin. And I add a HA to it for added moisture. Even though my skin is dry if I try and use the Clinique Moisturizing lotion or the 72 hour moisture surge it seems to be too heavy and I break out. Also watching Hyrams videos or more like binging them 😂😂😂 I’m thinking not exfoliating enough is an issue. I’ve found I can’t use typical exfoliators because I will break out from them. Like it’s cutting the skin and getting up under it and causing more breakouts. I can kinda tolerate rice powder exfoliating. But very minimally and light feather pressure. So I was excited find out about Chemical exfoliating! I had no idea this was a thing. Since watching his videos I just purchased the Ordinary Niacinimide and 10% the Mandelic Acid 10% and the Alpha Arbutin. Not sure on spelling I’m hoping these make a difference. This was the chemical exfoliation they recommended trying first. I do love a good toner and I’ve heard Cosrx is amazing!! So I will look into that. And I have a great double cleanser I love! And my skin seems to like. I believe I just really need some treatments to add to my routine, so it’s nice the Ordinary is so inexpensive to try out. Do you use the Cosrx acne patches as well?

Hi! Just wanted to share my two sense about Propolis, I'm no expert by any means, don't know what form they use it in skincare but we use it a lot in eastern Europe where I'm from. We use it most commonly to boost immunity, heal wounds, treat fungal and oral diseases, and I mostly use it in a spray form when I have a sore throat (my grandma would put a couple of drops on a sugar cube and consume it like that, but eating sugar cubes makes me cringe haha). The composition of propolis is not constant, but depends on the species and variety of plants that the bees visit, the season, climatic circumstances... Its main ingredients are wax, pollen and resins, and there is a presence of amino acids, vitamins B1, B2, B6, C and E, and minerals... Of course I encourage everyone to do their own research but thought I should post this in case it's helpful in any way. Keep up the great work!

So I just wanna say the term “whitening “ in my perspective as an Asian isn’t meant to be racist. It goes back to the older days when the wealthy stayed inside and had nice whiter skin than those who were poor and worked in the fields so it became a sign of your wealth status therefore became a aspect of beauty. There are so many treatments throughout Asian that target whitening going from soaps to actually injections to make your skin whiter because it’s seen as beautiful. It’s not trying to be racist because in Asia it’s just seen as more attractive and healthy hence why they go to such drastic lengths to lighten their skin tone or “bleach” their skin. In Thailand, as I’m Thai, we typically have darker skin so those who do have whiter skin are seen as beautiful as such. Feel free to correct me if I’m wrong but this is just what I’ve seen within my culture, and other Asian cultures I’ve researched on like Korea, China and Japan.
@sennui09
@sennui09 4 жыл бұрын
I agree! It’s not racism. In our case here in the Philippines, the skin color is like a lottery- like, it varies even among siblings. So generally we have “mestizas” the lighter skinned folks and “morenas” those on the darker shades - and both are considered to be beautiful. So as a filipino you can eventually choose to whiten or tan your skin since both are accessible. Lol.
@stefanycifuenteslara

It’s not called racism. It’s called colorism, and it means that fair skin color has advantage over darker skin color which is discriminatory. A lot of countries have the same problem, in Latin America is also common, maybe not as much as in some Asian countries. Unfortunately is so normal and part of the culture that many people don’t understand the bad connotation of that thinking in society. Nobody should feel less because of the color of their skin. Colorism is not any better than racism.

Thank you for a wonderfully informative chanel. I’m scientifically minded person, but it’s so nice when, for once somebody else has done the research for me. I’ve found your advice hugely helpfull when trying to fix my skin after having severely f***ed up my skin barrier with water. Yes, that’s right WITH WATER. I visited my home town and the tap water there is completely different from where I live and it reduced my face and scalp in to red dry flaky mess. Water quality is also a huge often overlooked factor in skin care and it can have a massive effect on how your products perform just like weather and local climate, sometimes even more so, because of the varying chemical characteristics of water. Anyway, that’s not why I’m here. You wanted info about propolis and I’m a beekeepers wife. All bee products, honey, beeswax, propolis, pollen, perga (=beebread = is lactofermented pollen) and royal jelly (= the protein rich milky food that is given to the bee larvae destned to becme the new bee) have a two main characteristics in common: they are antibacterial and antifungal. This makes sense when you think of a bee hive, which is an ideal place for bacterium and fungal growth, dark, warm and humid and full of food ie honey. But bee product have more goodness to them aswell, such as lots of enzymes. But that’s another story. The constitution of propolis is different depending on where the bees are kept, because they source they ”raw materials” from their surroundings. Here is a link to a shorthish scientific article, which lists the compounds found in propolis and the uses of propolis also in dermatology. www.apidologie.org/articles/apido/abs/1995/02/Apidologie_0044-8435_1995_26_2_ART0002/Apidologie_0044-8435_1995_26_2_ART0002.html My main concern about propolis is that it is mostly extracted in alcohol or other solvents. I know it can also be extracted in olive oil or even water,, but obviously it depends on the solvent what chemicals you get out of it. I don’t know how the propolis listed in the cosmetics ingredients is extracted. I’d have to dig a bit deeper. That said I’m waiting for my COSRX propolis toner to arrive to give it a try. Thanks again and keep up the good work. BTW I hope you are familiar with the google scholar search. It’s like a google search, but for scienticic artcles. You can find lots more science about bee products there, but more importantly just lots more science. scholar.google.com/
