Larry Bird hurt his back in the 1985 offseason. He won another MVP the next season but he had back problems from that injury forward. He was never the same and he was only 6 years into his career! Then he broke his back in 89. It got so bad he would sometimes go the hospital the night before a game to get into traction for his back. Then he had to stretch 2 hours just to be able to play. He could barely put his shoes on. During the game vs Indiana that he broke his face - he had a back brace on during that game. The brace is one reason he hit his face in the game. He couldn’t move with the brace on. Even some Indiana players said that they would tell their grandkids about what Bird did that day!

Dude, Worthy said he would rather guard Jordan than Bird. Jordan made you look slow, Bird made you look stupid. LeBron needs to dribble the ball down to impact the game and Larry didn’t need the ball to impact a game. Larry couldn’t travel, or carry the ball to get buckets like LeBron. Larry wanted the last shot, and the pressure. Larry would tell you what he was going to do. LeBron doesn’t do that. Larry got injured and still played harder than LeBron does. In the summer before his rookie season, he played a casual game of softball and got a knuckleball to his right index finger, which never really recovered. Google for images, it's all bent and swollen. Then look at the Legend's improved shot percentages, and see how they evolve as he gets used to this minor handicap. The NBA never saw a healthy prime Larry Joe Bird. Which is just as well, because if he had brought the Celtics from a 29W team to the championship in his rookie season, there would never have been a GOAT debate, and the Celtics would have done to the 80s what they'd already done to the 60s.

Yeah, “let that sink in”, for in doing so you’ll see that statement from Riley makes no sense whatever, just sounds clever 🙃

Bird was one steal from a quadruple double. One steal. And he only played 3/4s. Look it up

Completely off topic, but I'm genuinely curious.... I had some friends back in the day who used afro sheen, and I don't remember it being that shiny at all. Especially your beard. Is there some kind of glitter or something involved or is it just your lighting? Whatever it is, it looks good.

If you were a Bulls fan back then, you would understand why I freaking abhor Thomas and every other Pistons players with the exception of Joe Dumars and Salley. They mauled the Bulls in the late 80s. Who would have thought I would forgive Rodman and love what he did on the court in a Chicago jersey.

My GOAT Team: Jerry West @ 1, Elgin Baylor @ 2, Larry Bird @ 3, Hakeem Olajuwon @ 4, Wilt Chamberlain @ 5 ... Name the team that Beats them and how?

Oooh, those are some BAD men, and matches my own all-time dream-team, except I swap Baylor for Jordan. I have zero confidence in claiming ANY team would defeat Bird, much less playing with four of the greatest players of all time. But let's give it a try: PG: John Stockton - over Magic because I need the defense against West, and Stockton can toss 3-pointers. SG: Kobe Bryant - arguably the second greatest shooting guard of all time, and clutch on both ends of the court. SF: Michael Jordan - who else could I possibly try to counter the Legend with? PF: Tim Duncan - another solid defender who rose to the occasion many times. 10-0 record against Hakeem. C: Nikola Jokic - my biggest defensive liability, partly because I can't think of a counter to Wilt, partly because I want that offense to counter Bird's offense. On defense, Kobe and MJ back each other and Stockton up, Stockton and Duncan go man to man on their positions, with Wilt being handled through trying to prevent him getting the ball and leaving him room to pass off the ball rather than just making baskets. Jokic directs the defense and clogs up lanes. On offense, Stockton or Jokic finds the right play, Duncan finishes near the rim and Kobe and MJ keeps the defense honest.
