Hi! Which macro lens do you recommend for Sony FX3?
@earthangel8875 Жыл бұрын
I said it before I am really new to photography. I make jewelry and needed a camera so I bought one. After doing weeks of research I decided to buy the Canon 100mm Macro lens. I figure. Buy once, cry once and I won't need another camera or Macro lens for at least another decade. My old (10+ years) camera still works and is in great condition but I wanted to splurge and pamper myself so I did. Buy once, cry once. Your style of teaching is refreshing to me and I want to personally Thank you for taking the Time out to create videos for the world to see. I have a lot to learn and I am having fun. PS Where's the professor? I like him too ;) Thanks, Luke. Angel from The Bay Area/Silicon Valley, Sunny California USA

For jewelry, postage stamps, coins, and other small products, I use a 55mm macro or a 105mm macro. If I need to alter the plane of focus, I use a bellows with shift/tilt features.

Thanks so much for the video! Very helpful. I have the sony a6400 and I do cosmetic photography, I was thinking on buying a sony 50mm 1.8 oss as I am going to be using to other things too
@LukeAyers Жыл бұрын
Yep that’s a good choice too for most things. The 50mm 1.8 just won’t let you focus quite as close as a macro. But otherwise great
@jose-gr7jg Жыл бұрын
@@LukeAyersthanks for answering! Yeah I have been searching for a macro lens but they are out of my budget :(, so that will have to do
@SciFer33213 ай бұрын
@LukeAyers is there a 50 mm 1.8 macro?
@freshandsaltyjohnny9 ай бұрын
I do not need to be super up close because My products are fishing lures and tackle. Soft plastic baits and hard baits. So i think i am just outside of macro territory? What type of lens would i need? And should i go mirror less like everyone is saying? APS-C or a Sony full frame a7c? My budget is around $1000 not including lens.
@LukeAyers9 ай бұрын
Macro still works fine like any other lens from any distance. No noticeable difference between full frame or crop frame for what your photographing, choose the cheaper one. No difference in image quality between mirrorless and dslr. Choose mirrorless if you don’t want to hold the camera up to your face all the time.

Hi, great video. What if i bought a set of spacer rings, for my 35 mm lens. Is that the same as a real macro-lens? Would it make it 1:1?
@LukeAyers7 ай бұрын
It might make it 1:1 but the optical quality likely wouldn’t be as good. But try it. Might work just fine.
@henningsrensen80437 ай бұрын
@@LukeAyers Thanks, i will try it
@remigijusmatukaitis43833 ай бұрын
So 28mm F2.8 macro lens will have same angle, depth of field as regular 28mm F2.8? Only distance from object? or that 1:1 magnification means that depth of field will be different than a regular with 1:2 magnification? Once I used macro lens for books and it was a nightmare cause it was so sharp and clear I could see every dot of CMYK printing and it was useless for e-commerce.
@LukeAyers3 ай бұрын
Correct. Same angle and depth of field. But depth of field naturally gets shallower the closer you get to an object. So going 1:1 distance the depth of field will get really shallow. And yes try not to be so close the printing dots show up.
@remigijusmatukaitis43833 ай бұрын
@@LukeAyers So if I'm shooting some products 1-2 feet away it will work similar as regular lens? (I need cheaper daily lens for items for e-commerce). Or better to go with more expensive 32mm f1.4?
@LukeAyers3 ай бұрын
@@remigijusmatukaitis4383 pretty much yes. I’d recommend a 50mm for almost anything else. And all 50mm lenses are sharp as when you close them down past 2.8 so you don’t need an expensive 50mm lens either
@remigijusmatukaitis43833 ай бұрын
@@LukeAyers 50mm on a EF-m will be like 80mm? Not to narrow as I'll need wider product lifestyle scenes too?

I use my I Phone 12 to take product pictures, especially for jewelry. I bought a Xenvo Pro Lens Kit last year to get closer/crisper pictures. It comes with the Truview 0.45x wide angle lens and the Clarus 15x Macro lens. I get only the middle part of the object crisp and the rest of it is blurry. I quit using it. Can you tell me if I bought the wrong lens? Or am I just using it wrong? Thanks for your information. Sherri
@LukeAyers Жыл бұрын
I can’t talk for phone lenses because I haven’t ever used them. Just buy a cheap DSLR or mirrorless camera and put a macro lens on it and you’ll get way better results. But then also the other part is your lighting too as that makes a big difference.
