FILM DESCRIPTION:
Miss Mona (Dolly Parton) runs the Chicken Ranch, a brothel with a long history in a small Texas town. The locals have a good relationship with the institution, and Mona is respected in the community. The sheriff, Ed Earl Dodd (Burt Reynolds), also looks out for the Chicken Ranch due to his past with Miss Mona. However, when pious reporter Melvin Thorpe (Dom DeLuise) exposes the brothel, outside interests want it shut down, putting the governor (Charles Durning) in a tough spot.

You could throw Dolly Parton, Burt Reynolds, Dom Delouise and Charles Durning into a cupboard and make them recite the phone book, and you'd be on the floor vomiting with laughter in minutes... I don't think there's ever been two comedy actors like Reynolds and Delouise who get a laugh just by breaking the fourth wall... Heaven or hell, wherever, they're lucky to have them.... ❤👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

I saw this movie and was obsessed by it when I was a young lad, around 8-9 in the late 80s, and got told off by my teacher for coming up with a dance to this song with my girlfriends in the playground whilst belting this out. My mother was mortified, but I must have watched this move 2 dozen times as I had it on tape. I can just see me and 3 young girls jumping around doing lassoes singing “stop this copulation,” on repeat. Jesus Christ.

@caj1119
@caj1119 3 жыл бұрын
@@tanimation7289 It sure was. Look up the Chicken Ranch in Fayette County, Texas. The county prosecutor refused to do anything about it because he didn't consider it a real problem as it was out in the countryside and not bothering anyone. Furthermore, the sheriff preferred the place remain in operation because it served as his eyes and ears for more serious (i.e. violent) criminals who frequented the place. But the holier-than-thou governor and state attorney general couldn't tolerate it being open in the supposedly clean, law-abiding state of Texas. Because local law enforcement refused to shut the place down, he resorted to using a popular talk show host to expose the place and ultimately get it closed. Kind of sad and embarassing if you ask me... if nobody really had a problem with the place and the governor and state attorney general had just left well enough alone, the rest of the state wouldn't have known or cared. Prostitution is going to happen whether the law allows it or not. Then again, if the governor and state attorney general hadn't made all this stink about it, we wouldn't have had the stage musical or movie, which I considered one of the best ever made!

You know, I don't know how all this went down in real life, but from my perspective, this had to be both bad and good for the real Chicken Ranch. Good in the sense that it gave the place a lot of free advertising. Bad in the sense that it mobilized the entire holier-than-thou crowd in Texas who had a problem with prostitution happening anywhere in the large state, even if it's hundreds of miles away from them. Well, probably more bad for the place than good, but still embarrassing for the state Attorney General having to rely on publicity of a tv host to get the place shut down when the district attorney in Fayette County totally blew him off and refused to open any case against the place - and if the governor and Attorney General just left well enough alone, most of the state would have never known or cared about the place.
