Had a few people comment re the scion command squad medic & standard combo saying its not possible. If you read the app it says one scion can replace his HS lasgun with a HS lasgun, a HS laspistol and a medi pack (the HS lasgun cannot be replaced). Then it says one scion equipped with a HS lasgun can take a standard (the HS lasgun cannot be replaced). But you are not replacing anything with the standard. Just one model with a HS lasgun can take a standard. As the guy with a medipack has a HS lasgun with all of his other stuff, he can take a standard. So the end result is you have 1 scion in the squad with a HS lasgun, HS laspistol, Medi pack and a standard. Basically, do the medipack stuff first, then the standard! Hope all that makes sense

I think you’re wrong here. Checking the app, it does let you do that BUT I think that’s an oversight - a case of programming taking a sequential approach (as you have done) rather than a holistic one. To litigate, you argue that if you first REPLACE a HS LG with a [HS LG, HS LP, and medipack] you can then EQUIP the same model with a regimental standard. Following your argument, the operative word is EQUIP not REPLACE so you haven’t fallen afoul of the clarification that a model that does either of these things can’t REPLACE their HS LG. However, this assumes that the order in which you do that matters. When you try to EQUIP the standard, that model has already REPLACED their HS LG with the [HS LG, HS LP, medipack]. The rule states, however, that the standard bearer model cannot REPLACE their HS LG. When looking holistically, therefore, a REPLACE action has been made and, as stated, a model with a standard cannot REPLACE their HS LG. Basically, as far as I’m concerned the order doesn’t matter. And this is all about rules as written anyway. The spirit of the rules and player expectation both additionally point me to the conclusion that your interpretation is unintended and based off of poorly written rules. Lastly, idk how you can WYSIWYG that combination anyway. I rest my case. Edit: grammar

Tempestus scion with standered cannot replace their lasgun, equipping a medipack states "replace lasgun with medipack and lasgun" replacing an item with itself is still replacing it

But the regimental standard doesn't replace the HS lasgun, it only adds a standard to a model with a HS lasgun. So you replace gun with medkit, then add the standard and you haven't broken any rules...

Hello Mordian Glory. I'm an old Guard grognard. I have old school metal squads with heavy weapons (Valhallan and Cadian). You know what this means... So I equip my platoon command squad with the same heavy weapon the 20-man squad is also armed. Which happen to be laser cannons, and missile launchers. If you ask why this mix, I don't have enough metal laser cannons teams to fill all my ranks. Having small 25-man platoons with 3 heavy weapons is rather nice. Then for the 2 other dudes, I have medics and master voxes. I may consider the standard, to follow your advice. But first, I have to get my hands on some, from third-party producers.

20x man infantry squad block with command squad. 3x lascannon/autocannon, 3x grenade launcher/plasma, 3x bolter with 2x power sword, a powerfist and a medic to top it off. A great long ranged fire support unit with the firepower of a full heavy weapons squad but is far harder to kill with all the bodies, the FnP and the cover ability from the squad. Can also still move forward late game if you need the bodies mid board

You could also add a Cadian Castellan for sustained hits on all ranged weapons PLUS "get back in the fight" to fall back and shoot. Add in the Drill commander enhancement and you'll alos get those sustained and lethal hits (Born Soldiers) on a 5+!

I’ve been running the Cadian command with a 20 blob with all options that can have it, are plasma guns. Then attach a castellan with drill commander too. Every opponent in 10th so far has completely underestimated this unit until they started ‘Danny de Vito style start blasting’ plasma guns with 5+ critical lethal, sustained and FRFSRF’ Almost guaranteed to rip up most things your opponent throws at you. I have been granting the plasma gunners in my 2 blob units special honours to bear on their armour due to their grand acts of destruction carried out in the name of the God Emperor using this tactic.

For the Infantry squad Standard with chainsword, it does say on the tin at the bottom of the card That ** A model can only take one of these options, and if it does so its lasgun cannot be replaced. This would also go for the medi-pack, as it also has the **. Then again, it works on the app, so either they mean the "lasgun" as including the chainsword in the statement, or this was overlooked.

It doesn’t work in the app. If you take a Standard and a medi-pack, you cannot take 3 special weapons, only two.

Well, I guess if you really wanted to go nuts, you could do 120 standard cadian shock troops, then 36 of each special weapon, so another 144...then you got it all covered no matter what they do to the meta 😂😅

Fantastic video! The command squads have so much flexability in their loadout, its a real puzzle to figure out what will work best for your list, atleast in my opinion. I really loved trying out the chainsword platoon that you suggested when i tried out my army as a melee infantry list, the chainswords are more noticable than a single lasgun when you get down to it, but they still dont hit very hard. Still though, its something I overlooked until you pointed it out and I think I'd want to run them that way most of the time. Also I think that two power fists in a cadian squad is a must-have, they really have such a huge impact in combat, and they still get plasma pistols! Whats not to love!? I might try using a plasma gun instead of the standard bearer. I agree that objective control is the units main job, but even without the banner I think they should be able to hold objectives with sheer weight of numbers. I suppose its a very list dependant choice!!

40 seconds in and there is no end in sight of cool infantry models on display, it's nice to see some non Cadian units on display. All I see in my local area is Cadians and it's just a bit disappointing as there are so many other regiments worlds and designs of models but its all Cadians.

I don't understand the two options for the scion with medpack. Why would I ever choose option 1, medpack and pistol but no rifle. He cannot take a special weapon in either case if I understand this correctly. Am I overlooking something?

So why does the cadian master vox model not have a lasgun it has a pistol If its ment to be a lasgun? Off the instructions on how to put the kit together i interpreted the card as the mastervox can swap the pistol out for plasma

How is it legal for the Regimental Standard bearer in the scions to carry both the standard and mesipack at the same time?

its kind of a gray area as far as I know, because the medipack says "1 Tempestus Scion's hot-shot lasgun can be replaced with 1 HOTSHOT LASGUN, 1 hotshot laspistol, and 1 medipack. and the standard only says that " 1 Tempestus Scion equipped with a hot-shot lasgun can be equipped with 1 regimental standard. That model's hot-shot lasgun cannot be replaced." So basically because for the medipack, you're replacing the lasgun with another lasgun, RAW you can still equip a standard to the same guy since he still has a lasgun, and that's the only condition for equipping it. Some people point out the second bit of the standards description and say that replacing a lasgun with a lasgun is still replacing it, but it was like this in 9th too I'm pretty sure but GW didn't fix it for 10th, so idk...

I has a dumb question for you. In this era where the Guard uniquely can criss regimental divides, but also some people get REALLY picky on the models one might use, dp you still let the Command Squad "match"? Let's say you want a Command Squad to team up with some Catachan, and support Straken's Squad. It might look odd to have them standing there, alongside Cadian-thwmed models. I am totally certain that you could make Catachan models with the right kit outs; GW used to make more diverse Catachan, and only now force flamethrower spam on them out of stupidity, even though those models are probably about as old as any special weapons, or standatd-bearet Catachan you might have. Do you use the models of Catachan to represent what will basically be a "Catachan Command Squad", or just use the default "what comes in a current box, but doesn't match" models? The same is true with Krieg; they have options, and had Moreno do you use Krieg-themed infantry to represent a Command Squad allied to them, or specifically "different" models, who don't match, to keep tabs on whi is whom?

I use Kreig models for Kasrkins and paint the base rims dif color than my Kreig squads. I dont like cadians, im not using them. The kreig have the same guns so theyre WYSIWYG

I use only Catachan, but I source from more than GW. I use the Reptilian Overlords' Spacenam models as Kasrkin, and the Raging Heroes' Jailbirds models as Scions. I don't have anything modeled to differentiate the battleline squads (yet), but loadout is pretty sufficient for that. I did put together a Cadian Command Squad with Catachan models. It is pretty easy, but you should look out for the Cadian Command Squad being on 28.5mm bases.

Okay so, this is not about Command Squads. I’ve been waiting months to get my hands on some Basilisks, and it looks like I’ll be waiting even longer to get them. Are there any good alternatives to the Basilisks I can run? FOBs just seem so much worse for similar points costs, and manticores are impossible to find as well. Do I just say screw the artillery and go more tanks? The Basilisk seems so good for what it does for the points, I’m just bummed it hasn’t been in stock for half a year. But I gotta get this army up and running so what do I do?

All right so if I attach a platoon command squad to a squad of catachan will their scout move ability pass on passively to the platoon command squad or do I lose their scout move by attaching the command squad?

You retain the scout move! It applies to the whole unit, including the command squad.

Command squad should be battleline too, because we dont have veteran squads anymore. Only command squad can make sniper teams now.

I dont buy the standard+medic combo. For one, I dont agree with the grammar, and two, the app wont let me do that. So if I do smash the two things together and get called out on it, I have to argue a case against the app, against common interperarion of a rules text and then again against a TO. Even if I’m right, I’m suddently «that guy».

It's obviously not intended but let's see when they get around to fixing it. Remember when plasma would explode on a 2 against -1 to hit? We all knew it wasn't intentional and they eventually fixed it but 'that guy' would fight TO THE DEATH to ruin your day.
