@@MitchHennessy o At the time I didn't think of who'd be a good alternative. I just know that she was the only one who's acting "felt" like (over)acting to me. This was the late 90s so who I'd choose for that role would've been too young to play it. But... I wouldve gone with a 90s (age appropriate) version of YaYa Dacosta, Jurnee Smolette or Aja Naomi King.
@bethanychatman9531 Жыл бұрын
@@mojadah10 that's interesting, because I always felt she was perfect for it. Like she played it like Mia was written innocent in nature but not dumb by any means. Very traditionally groomed groomed to be with a serial cheater.
@desecration171Ай бұрын
@@mojadah10 I don't think it's the fact that it is Monica Calhoun but the way she acted as the character. She talked as if Mia was reta err like she was slow. I get that she was going for an upbeat, naive type of "good girl" image but her inflection made Mia come off like 80s dumb Valley girl... on downers. The casting choice wasn't the problem because Monica can act. Her performance was the problem (imho). My only other complaint would be Murch's wife. She started the first film as the "educated stripper" but in the second film she became hoodie wife. Murch actually took a step backwards from Shelby.

Quentin’s question hit Lance extra hard because he knew that she had cheated just not with Harper yet. Remember at the church, Lance said in the back of his mind he knew she had been with someone else but it hurt that much more because it was his best friend. Then I thought about the bathroom scene where Lance told Harp if she did cheat, he would deal with it because of the promise he made with God.
Lance was MENTALLY PREPARED to deal with the consequences of his "STICKING AND MOVING, but Harper BETRAYING HIM and "BREAKING THE CODE" WAS TOO DAMN MUCH!!!

its crazy how in hindsight Quentin was telling on Lance this whole scene. the context (he would look at Harper before he responded to Lance) was there the whole time but him doing the talking and being the "player" that he was made it seem like he was the one that slept with Mia not Harper. everytime he said something he would look at Harper first. then the last line "whose hand is it?" was perfect. the writing and acting in this scene was brilliant.

You might not like the life decisions that Quentin lives by in terms of frequently changing his career or "playboy" mentality, however, he's that friend that every person needs though! He's the friend who doesn't care what people think of him, so he's going to be the friend who you know is going to be honest with you whether you want to hear it or not! 1) Lance - Quentin's pushing him to grasp the idea that Mia could have slept with another man beside himself so that he can learn to forgive her. At the same time, Quentin's testing his patience on when things don't turn out like how Lance wants them to because marriage will have tons of those moments happen! 2) Harper - Quentin wanted Harper to realize that you don't call out your friends/partners for crap unless you've owned up to the crap you've done yourself. In other words, Quentin was tired of Harper calling him out when he knew full well Harper hadn't owned up to telling Lance what happened between him and Mia! Consequently, Harper learns this the hard way, but it helps him to realize to think beyond his self-interests and commit himself to Robin more! 3) Murch (my personal favorite) - Quentin could tell that if Murch didn't learn how to stand up for himself, Shelby was going to walk all over him down the road then! Consequently, he pushes Murch to stand up for himself throughout the movie whether it was making sure he didn't have to be in constant touch with Shelby or one my favorite moments the church rehearsal scene! Murch thankfully realizes Shelby is not the one for him, stands up to her, and goes on to have more happy life with Candance!

This scene is telling because of two things. 1. Is the obvious about Lance thinking his woman didnt step out like he uses to. But, 2, how Quentin (Terrence) and Harper (Taye) always went at it on the sneak. Taye always tried punkin Q about his lack of focus. Always making it look he waa better because of that. But, my favorite is how Q handles it. He let's him know, in uncertain terms, that Harper at all he is cracked up to be. And, that one day, he will get his. This scene shows it, along with when they were walking on the street together and Q says, "yeah night you ain't slick" haha he keeps calling that boy out

It's just something about the way Quentin says "Got her lil swerve on" that intensifies everything. If Lance would have been looking at Quentin when Quentin covered his mouth and looked at Harper he woulda known something was up.

This is the only role that i've actually enjoyed Terrence Howard in. Hell, for that matter, Taye Diggs too.

You should check out the t.v. show All American on the CW network. You would like Taye Diggs in that role.
@JayLWO5 жыл бұрын
@@drestathagangsta8880 Ya know...i saw a bit of a clip from that show not long ago and i thought about checking it out. Despite Taye. Taye Diggs just comes off as "trying too hard" for me. I liked him in that show where he was taking care of his baby niece, but that was the last thing i could truly bare to watch with him as the lead.

Lance always thought so highly of Harper. Quentin was a realist and just wanted Harper to stop hiding behind his character/ flaws. It’s such a mess tho because why did Harper write a book and dedicate the book to his friends . It’s so strange but this movie is classic period

This scene is the epitome of one character controlling all of the cards in a given situation. Terrence Howard was incredible in this scene. The back and forth glances between Harper and Lance, the smugness, the rawness, and the comedic truth. The one person who Harper underestimated, frowned upon, and doubted their intellectual capacity was the very one who was the first to connect all the dots and figure out the dirty secret about Harper and Mia.

Q did two things here: 1. Made Lance face a possible truth that he chose to ignore, because deep down, he knows Q has a valid point, and 2. Foreshadowed Lance's reaction when he finds out the truth to Harper.

Lance ain’t nothing but a big bully 😂 The whole affair mess aside, notice how he spared Quentin from a beatdown because he wasn’t afraid of him. But he went ahead and let loose on Harper who’s the most afraid of Lance.

I love how Quentin is letting Lance and Harper know what’s up in this scene. He’s letting Lance know that he shouldn’t be thinking that he got off cheating scott free that Mia might’ve snuck around too cause she was tired of him hurting her and Quentin is letting Harper know to be prepared cause Lance react similar to this as soon as he finds out.
