You described a boerboel that I'd love to have. Instead I got an idiot who's stubborn. I've had him since he was seven weeks old and I fight with him every day. Love the monster but he tries my patience every day.

That has made us laugh! The Boerboel is however also known as a stubborn breed. How old is your boy now? The stubbornness is one of the reasons why some breeders say "Boerboels are not advisable for first time dog owners". I'm not so much of that opinion as I think that anyone can learn to be what a dog like this needs. Some people might have had 6 different dogs and are still not able to meet up to the Boerboels required needs. If your boy is under 2 then they can definitely be trouble makers and push their luck. Just don't give in to nonsense as well as strong but firm leadership with boundaries.

@@Pawfextion Mine is under 2 and surely pushing his luck :) I do agree with what you say here, they are very very special dogs for certain people, not for everyone though.

I do also think that it makes the Boerboel great. A bit of stubbornness is what gives them their character. As long as it's a bit though ;) It's part of what makes this breed unique. Trying to get your dog inside the house on a beautiful summers day, while they just want to stay outside because it's so nice. I think that it is very important to show leadership without compromise. If you say no to going upstairs for example then don't stand on the first step of the stairs either. No is no. The Boerboel thrives on boundaries and limitations, because within those boundaries they will understand how to be the best companion. Without rules they actually get more confused.
