This really goes to show that even for animals, it’s important to be empathetic and recognize their boundaries. Especially with rescues who often carry a lot of trauma with them, having a principle like “when he takes the muzzle off, the groom is over” is really important for the well-being of both the dog and the groomer. @@krollic Passionate dog lovers sounding off. Yes it's true, How you raise your dog (just like how a raise a child) will determine their behaviour and temperament as they grow, But genetics also plays a part. You have to be careful with powerful dogs that were bred for a reason by humans, just because you raised your dog as a well trained family pet, Doesn't mean you take liberties and have full trust in them in any situation. It only takes something to trigger a bad reaction, And if you are not in control at the time then it's not going to be a good outcome. In my opinion, Some breeds should not be family pets cause they have a trigger... And it's been well documented! Nice family pet bla bla... Goes and flips and does some damage to someone or another dog or whatever.

My parents were given a Neo, and I remember researching it as I hadn’t heard of that breed before. A lot of times as a groomer, you're more at risk of being bitten by a nervous/anxious dog than almost anything else. Biting can be a fear response and depending on HOW worried the dog is can easily mean you get little to now warning before you actually get bit. I groom with my sister and it's the "nervous nitts" that we almost always take the most caution with because they can be the most unpredictable, and NONE of them WANT to bite but if they do it can honestly really mess the dog up long term. 😢 It's really awesome to see returning clients come in that get more and more comfortable over time and the ones that were able to move from having a muzzle for everything, to certain things, to being 100% muzzle free is so awesome ❤❤❤

What a gorgeous dog. I love big boys. Love his name too. He did very well. He knew you were a good person.

I hope the dog gets the training it needs. They look so sweet. I just want to give them a big hug!

Well done Vanessa, he was clearly very distressed, and you kept him calm.

When he reunited with his family, all the love they have for each other just made me tear up.

Good job to the both of you. Vanessa, for teaching Duane that people can be loving and kind, and Duane for being a good sport.

Such a sweetie! So glad that Dwayne got a wonderful home! Our rescues often come with no idea what they’ve been through. Mine had a lot of fear, but she also got a lot of love! Thank you Vanessa for giving these guys a spa day!💕

That opening shot of Dwayne was like something out of a horror movie. Big black dog with big black muzzle. The pan up was brilliant and visually intimidating. He is what the kids call “a unit.” You are a courageous angel to get in there with the Big Unit!
