Agree. RK84 is imo the best keyboard quality/price and great compromise beetween 60% and TKL (75%), especially with brown switches, but is a matter of preference. Many people complained about the 2.4 GHz dongle regarding short range, but in mine there's no problem with that.

Hello, noob question: if you plan to mod/customise your keyboards into oblivion, what do you look for when you're buying? What makes a brand/model your favourite?
@KobraTrading2 жыл бұрын
I have a one2 mini with cherry silvers (gaming) and a one2 tkl with silent reds (typing). I take really good care of them (cleaning them, lubed etc.) and really never minded that their not wireless or hot-swappable. I normally purchase these kinds of options with the switches I want so I don't have to spend extra money/time to change them out. Really never been disappointed by them ever. Super solid housing, minimal key-wobble, and good RGB (my one2 TKL has doubleshot pudding keys which look incredible at night). Bother were at or above $100, but imo, since they're such high-quality, super worth it.

@hunty923 жыл бұрын
i've (somehow) used a razer huntsman elite with linear optical switches for the last year. not only are the switches slippery, they're also rated at 45g actuation force and 1mm distance. the force from my resting fingers is at times enough to actuate keys, i have constant mispresses because they're so easy to press, and i also regularly have keys that stay triggered after the stroke is over. my typing has actually really suffered because this board is honestly really awkward and hard to use. that said.... i'm building my first keyboard tomorrow, a tofu65 with boba u4ts, tomorrow and am disgustingly excited ;-; EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Actually these are the best mechanical keyboards for gaming, most of them are full sized or tkl so they have a dedicated f row, lack of lube makes the switch feel lighter, therefore easier to press. Just because a keyboard isn't made for enthusiasts doesn't mean it's bad, same with prebuilt computers. Just because something costs $300 more because someone already put it together for you doesn't make it a bad computer, harder to upgrade for sure but not teribble.
@WTFA543 жыл бұрын
I think there's also just cheaper prebuilts that offer better value than a lot of these. It's not a question of "ooh look a these keyboard snobs looking down on gaming keyboards," but more "what is the value proposition for these keyboards from big name gaming companies?"
@WTFA543 жыл бұрын
I will say though that the big companies do have better firmware usually or at least more user-friendly firmware than cheaper keyboards. Also full sized or TKL layouts aren't necessarily better for gaming either? I've been seeing more people preferring smaller layouts to give themselves more mouse room. I guess it really just depends on the game, but for a lot of mouse and keyboard games I don't know if you need an F Row or a Nav cluster or a numpad. Just depends on the game and the use case
@paklekj44293 жыл бұрын
I mean just buy the same switch they uses
@CanIHasThisName3 жыл бұрын
Funny. Dedicated F row annoys me and for gaming, I want as much room for the mouse as possible, so a 60-65% keyboard is perfect. That's still a matter of preference. And I definitely don't want a very light switch to avoid accidental hits when holding finger on a key. The matter of fact is that many gaming companies make overpriced peripherals and they sell the brand marketing more so than the actual products.

@iantellam99702 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I got an Anne Pro 2 some time last year with Box Whites. Can't really fault it for the price - even the software it comes with is solid. Once you’re used to 65%, go one step farther and go for 40%. If you don’t type numbers frequently, 40% is about as effective as 65%. The symbols take a bit getting used to and still take a bit longer for me to type. But the lack of finger travel makes up for it.

Any full size keyboard recommendations? I'm a novelist, so I type a lot. A whole lot. The main problem with the cheaper mechanical keyboards is that they wear out fast. The lighting stops working, or you get annoying blinking lights that are out of sync very quickly, or a key stops working, or double clicks. Quality control. When you buy the cheap ones, you take your chance. It's almost impossible to return them to the manufacturer. That's why Amazon warehouse is always full of them. If you buy a recognized brand, you get that guarantee, and it is truly cheaper in the long run. and with the cheaper boards, they have "rainbow lighting" where every key is a specific colour and can't be changed. And the switches are often really bad, and inconsistent. Actuation points vary and so does feel. I prefer either full size or TKL. The smaller ones are cute, but require too many compromises and key presses to make them worth my while. I like tactile or clicky, but I don't use the esoteric switches or bother with hot swappable boards. I do, however, prefer pbt keycaps.

I recently saw your channel and this was the first video I saw. Now I'm hooked to learning more about keyboards. Really enjoyed the presentation and was confused by your presentation cause 7 months back you sound more different than recent. What happened to the follow up review of the redragon k552 ? Because I was considering getting that or the cosmic byte 18 firefly. Looking forward to it and hope your channel brings more people to appreciate keyboards Edit: Nvm I saw that you had modded the keyboard super cool btw. Also would you still recommend the redragon k552 unmodded?

Hi! Hope you notice this comment. Remember your Keychron K2 review and said RK84 is better? Would you still recommend the RK84 a good entry level mech keyboard?
