The great thing about IQ6 is it records in stereo. But due to airplane mode issue, I’d stick with the Tascam IM2 + a lightning to 30 pin adapter. The IM2 also records in stereo but the rotating microphone can also point toward you. The downside should be the bulky setup but them price is pretty nice.

Great video! We got the Shure MV88 mics for vlogging outside (hiking and such), and have had nothing but problems with them... they ruined so much of our video. This video is super helpful, but I'm still not sure what we need, because we need to capture video front and back and in the wind. However, this will help us choose a replacement - thank you!

Great video! Would you consider doing an updated one? Zoom has a new (AM7/IQ7) out, as well as some other competitors out there. I can't decide between the Rode and the AM7, I'm planning on using it for Indoor/Outdoor concerts. I feel like the AM7 might be slightly better, but I don't know if I want to deal with some of the technical issues. It also has the 'airplane mode' static issue as well as another reviewer mentioned it straight up crashed his phone. Rode seems way more straight forwards.

Great video! We vlog from our truck and get a lot of engine and wind noise with the iPhone mic. Inside the cab is noisy. The phone hangs on the windshield above the engine. I think I need a mic that points back at me or a lavaliere mic. Not sure. Any recommendations? Ty!

Hi! Useful video!! I'm going to be live streaming my wedding ceremony over zoom in October as our capacity in the venue is limited so some of our guests are not able to attend in person. What's the maximum distance you can still pick sound up using these microphones? I want something that will amplify the sound better than just my smartphones intneral mic but it will obviously be position at least 1-1.5 meters away from myself and my husband. Would be great to get your thoughts

Thanks for your review. I would like to have heard the. sound of the iPhone with its own mic as a reference. Quite frankly, I don't think any of these little mics is worth buying (apart, maybe, from the Rode) as they are not much better , if better at all, than the own iPhone mic would be at that short distance . I have the Zoom and wish I could get rid of it . The shotgun I use is a Sennheiser MKE 400 but you need a cage for that mic.

All the mics in the review apart from the Rode are nothing but toys and they don't justify their cost at all. It's more cost effective to choose to record with the third iPhone mic in a cam app such as P3 or Beastcam . The third mic is built near the rear camera housing and faces the person speaking. Now, if you just shoot without any concern about which iPhone mic you are using then we go back to the standards' matter. I've upgraded from the 400 to the Sennheiser MKE 600 as on camera shotgun . I use Picogear as lavaliere. Deity XLR plug-on wireless transmitter with handheld ( Neumann) mic as reporter mic. To anyone who has just spent a lot of money buying an iPhone 14 Pro: Be serious about your filming. Get real microphones, not the mics listed in this review. I have the zoom. It's no better than the iPhone 13 Pro mic. Especially now with voice isolation. And you can't use the zoom if your iPhone has a protective case! You will need to buy an adaptor and it will be all for nothing. The most important single piece of equipment that iPhone shooters need is an external mic. I suggest the Seinnheiser MKE 600. It comes with a TRS cable. Get the Sennheiser 600 I cable that is TRRS so you will only need one more cable, the lightning adapter, instead of two more cables (TRS to TRRS and lightning adapter). The sound is spectacular!

Publish a review comparing the sound of all those microphones ( you do have them seeing you are 100% sure they are better than iPhone)with the sound of the iPhone 14 using the mic near the lenses ( you do have cam apps with that option, don't you?) . I do have the zoom mic and will make a review showing how the sound of the zoom is not better than the sound of the iPhone 14 Pro. You?
