Amsec has more gun safe options than I thought. Pretty impressive.

For AMSEC the mechanical keypad option is great. My only deterrent is no key lock on the door handle. Is a key lock optional as well?
@A1LocksmithofTexas

On the handle? No. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen that. The mechanical lock can have a keyed cylinder though, it’s called a Day Lock. It just keeps the dial from spinning left or right.

What is your thoughts on the brand Sturdy Safe? Since you deal in this day in and day out. I enjoy watching your videos and the information that you convey through them.

Thanks for watching, man! Sturdy Safes are a very cool concept because you can pretty much custom build a safe how you want. I think it’s like anything else, it’s based on what options you’re wanting and the price of said options. Meaning, I would build a Sturdy Safe on their website how I wanted - thickness of steel, fire protection, finish, hardware. Then I would compare that to other safes on the market I’ve heard of…Browning ProSteel, Liberty, AMSEC, etc, etc. They’re a very unique concept and I think it’s a cool one, too. I’ve moved a couple in my career for customers and they seem well built. Maybe not a “polished” as other companies.

I personally really like Champion / Superior Safes. Very well built with great fire ratings and heavier gauge steel construction than most. They also look incredible.

Any particular model you like from Champion / Superior? You’re right, like many other companies, Champion/Superior have much thicker steel and higher fire ratings than this “mid-range” safe. There’s something for everyone in the safe world. On the channel you can see much stronger safes, so you can compare.

@@A1LocksmithofTexas For the price, security, features and fire rating I believe the Superior Master series is the best bang for buck and won’t break the bank. I recently purchased a Master 30 and could not be happier. The safe plus delivery was under $4500. I did select the granite finish and stock chrome hardware with a mechanical S&G dial which is the lowest cost optioning but it’s awesome.

@@christopheryou5040 I like your style saving money on finish and hardware, that makes sense to me too. Great safe by the way, solid steel content and really good fire rating. Thanks for the feedback and stopping by!

Excellent presentation. One question I have or at least a warning to others..l the black chrome finish will come off after several cleanings or polishing... the question would be how to restore the black chrome finish (preferably without sending components to a company to do it)

@@dudeman8323 Wow, really? I have seen the chrome plating wear after 15+ years of normal use, for sure. How old is your safe, if I may ask? It’s a chrome plating, so unfortunately no way to bring that back without send off, outside of attempting to request replacement hardware from AMSEC.

@@A1LocksmithofTexas Yeah so, mine is a Fort Knox, black chrome was awesome looking on black enamel. I don't know how thick the "Black" part of the plating was but I do know a bit about chemistry and how this works. As of this date my safe/hardware is about 15 years old but only after about a year of purchase I was cleaning it and of course did not expect the black chrome to turn into regular chrome. The safe is awesome, the handle is very obviously chrome, but also the S&G dial is showing imperfections from hand oils and can even be difficult to read the dial. My perception is the the black chrome, however good looking, is turning out to be like the "soft touch" coatings on products such as my Leica range finder which is now sticky, as in it's "value added" is short lived. I'm a printer by trade and remember the very first "soft touch" coatings for paper before they were marketed to tactile goods like computers, scopes and so on... Since chrome is porous, I was thinking the "black" property could be baked back into it through a vapor heat process... probably not for the average consumer... Thanks for the reply!

@@dudeman8323 Sadly I do see it more than not over time. Again, I’ve gotten people replacements and Fort Knox is a standup company, I bet they could help. Everything you describe is a lot like my “black” Tungsten wedding ring, it’s turn “chrome” pretty quickly. Washing my hands, oil/grease from locks & cleaning weapons, etc. Black chrome on a safe handle/lock look absolutely fantastic, but powder coating them black would last longer for sure. I appreciate your input and experience in the field! I try to only use a microfiber towel with no chemicals on my safe hardware.

@@A1LocksmithofTexas I have a Tungsten ring too... it seems to present a burning feeling when on my finger 😂 honestly my trade prevents me from wearing rings, long hair or danglies, I suppose I "could" wear it all but don't feel like being cut out of a machine if there is an accident. I live in Maryland but travel the country and picked up my safe in Cincinnati, friends in Austin, family in New Mexico and Arizona, when I'm looking for additional items I will definitely look you up simply because of your response and honesty. You're going in the contacts list.

12 gauge is kinda the minimum isn’t?
@A1LocksmithofTexas
@A1LocksmithofTexas 9 ай бұрын
12 is thin, yes, some are 14 gauge which is thinner. 12 has become more common in the market. The smaller the number the thicker the steel. Again, it’s all about what the customer needs to accomplish and what the total value of the inventory are. The 3/16” plate door is thicker than the body and bolted down in a narrow spot increase its security

The SF series from AMSEC is made offshore. They do have other series that’s are American made, just not this one.

Offshore as to exactly where?!
@carpetmogul007
@carpetmogul007 10 ай бұрын
China perhaps? Great “looking” safe but however I’m not going the “offshore” route in my family’s safety. Sell me a product that once the sale is made, no one outside of my sale can access its contents. I’m sure I’m not the only one asking this.
@A1LocksmithofTexas
@A1LocksmithofTexas 10 ай бұрын
@@carpetmogul007 China, yes. Sorry, I thought offshore was offshore, meaning America or not. I wasn’t trying to hide anything. The largest majority of safes in American homes is sadly China made. Everyone wants to buy American, but it cost more. The lock (keypad/mechanical) can be made to remove any manufacture reset codes. However, certain keypads cannot have said management codes removed. The very smallest majority of our shoppers have asked much about it, to be very transparent with you. AMSEC locks cannot be cleared, you could remove the serial number sticker from the lock though. Or order it with a mechanical lock and have your delivery team change the combo. Just a couple of examples.

How do you protect the safe from emp
@A1LocksmithofTexas
@A1LocksmithofTexas 11 ай бұрын
Safe keypad manufacturers have started adding a EMP rating to their products. Otherwise if anyone is genuinely concerned with the threat of EMP I strongly recommend a mechanical lock. Not saying the manufacturers are wrong, but a mechanical lock is 100% going to work after an EMP.
