@@DuncanRhodesDRPA I was twice your age, and trying (and failing) to do justice to my recently bought Tir-na-bor Thermo Warriors with screw-top Citadel paints and paint-by-numbers quality synthetic brushes. I'm glad I waited the intervening 20+ years to do justice to the rest of the Rackham figures I bought at the time.... I was so impressed with how they turned out when I started painting them on a whim just last year that I've gone on a mini-adventure buying up as many Dirz and Tir-na-bor figures as I can find! The Dirz figures are probably my favourite line of all time. I'm not sure anyone could do that fantasy-biopunk-body-horror look any better than these 20-25 year old figures did it.

Well, I'm French, and I'm not super young anymore. The French studio Rackham really brought something, at least in my country. The NMM, a very specific style of miniatures and painting, yes, this was brought to a quite big audience, also trying to bring something challenging with the skirmish games. Also, the terrain that they created was awesome. But the British won as Rackham was never extra successful in term of business. I'm very glad to see someone well known and followed like you, Mr. Rhodes, putting a miniature of this previous brand to the light.

I'm from Portugal and I had 3 full armies of Rackham - Orques of Bran o kor, Empire of the Griffon and Kelt Sessairs. Still have a few leftovers from each that I decided not to sell. For me, what set their colapse in motion was when they started doing those speed painted plastic miniatures in such poor quality. I immediately lost interest in the novelties they came up with. The rules for Ragnarok were also very poor and the game didnt flow. it was a slog, even for Fantasy battle comparison. What a pitty, they could have gone far indeed.
@Brickfrog42726 күн бұрын
"But the British won as Rackham was never extra successful in term of business." Kind of. Not really. Rackham mostly killed themselves. GW and Rackham both made miniatures, but GW pushed their models as being part of a tabletop wargame first and foremost. As the 90s went on and rolled into the 2000s, GW was really blowing up, ESPECIALLY with Lord of the Rings selling gangbusters. Rackham did have their wargame, Confrontation but it uh, wasn't so well co-ordinated as GW and Warhammer. The real killing blow to Rackham was 2006 with the launch of their sci-fi wargame, AT-43. The game had some INCREDIBLE artwork from Adrian Smith that is still posted today, but for whatever reason Rackham decided to pivot away from selling high quality metal models with studio paintjobs on the packaging and went for PRE-PAINTED AND PRE-ASSEMBLED plastic models for AT-43. The studio died in 2010.

@@Brickfrog427 True, when they thought it was a nice idea to become the next Mage Knight, they got their papers. remember how awful those miniatures were? and who painted them? Stevie Wonder?
@klug591626 күн бұрын
@@Brickfrog427 Well, I didn't had all of these information. Thank you. Nevertheless, Still, for what I remember, Rackham was never as hyped and player as Warhammer (and I'm French, so I remember the local game stores back in the days). The idea of focusing on skirmish games, rather than big armies was a good one, but perhaps not as appealing to the audience at this time. But the end, like you indicate, surely gave the final blow to the company.

To this day its the only table top game I loved. Rackham's artstyle taught me so much and set my taste especially when it comes to color compositions. Indeed way ahead of their time on so many fronts. Such a damn shame and waste that greed got them killed. And such a shame that all the revive attempts after that by several companies were utter criminal scams. That is why we can't have nice things. Thank for shedding a light on this, most people that watch you, won't know Rackham probably, they are most likely GW fanboys all the way which makes sense since that is all over the radar, but maybe some will appreciate this amazing company and their models and everything.

Hi ! I was playing Confront' (like we used to say at that time), and still have a lot of miniatures. I was lucky to meet one of the painter and I improved my painting skills a lot thanks to him. Rackham released a board game called "Hybrid", that was more like "space hulk", and I won the contest for creating the stats and abilities of a miniature. The miniature is called "Kyrus the somber".
