Got a Bachmann Class 37 in BR green with DCC and LOKSOUND for $200, was not disappointed in the slightest. Totally agree with your ranking and everyone at my club in Wisconsin was amazed that it was a Bachmann, as Bachmann has a relatively negative reputation in the US as cheap and beginner models, besides maybe the brand new Siemens SC-44 Chargers. Opening cab doors was "The Next Big Thing" in the 2000's. Very popular with shunters as they could be stuck open and a crewman placed in it. I remember getting a 37 for my birthday and was blown away by the opening cab doors. I believe that was also my first DCC model.

thanks Sam. partly due to their resemblance to an early new Zealand railways loco, I have always liked the 37's and after your review I spoiled myself and spent just over200, which is over 400 in local money, whichis more than I get a week on the pension. it is br green, weathered quite heavily and fitted with a zimo sound decoder, which I am still learning to use. I am delighted with itand fully agree with your review, so thank you for the guidance afterthis you have become a default part of my buying assessment. probably a pecket next, after I have caught backup with thebills and saved a bit into the emergency fund, hope that some are left by then keep well and keep up the good work. thanks again Sam. roy

The class 37 is very suitable, I bought them for 60 Pounds some years ago.It can compete with models of the continent ! 3 in Stock (Regional Railways / Intercity and EWS)

I have several Terriers and upon passing Dapol's in the Alton Model shop I fell in love. Any time in history has anything been so quickly added to a basket? The Jinty arriving meant that track awaited for her. Also the Pannier and of course the 1400 in Black. Also doing all 4 in 5 inch gauge live steam... The models helping with the details. Well sam you said I could be positive on the best models of 2020! So here I am and I am positive! The class 56 looks like an ordinary engine but has so many features! Opening doors, moving fans and such great wheel details! And the rapido looks stunning! The LNER livery is basic but quite nice, the cab details are pretty good too! Small and stunning, These engine really derserved to be on this list! And the terrier's livery looks amazing, Its such a smooth runner too. Never seen a loco with a copper funnel before! And the Bachmann diesel had Incredible amount of detail, dials on the bogey along with realistic springs. The realistic grills with even a driver in the cab! I never really liked diesels before this but now I do! And the sentinal at the end was stunning, glowing firebox, opening doors, metal whistle and the interior was amazing! These really derserved to be on the list! Well if this the last video before christmas day, I want to wish you a very happy christmas sam! I’ve got 2 Hornby Scotsman’s. 1 is more detailed than the other. One is railroad and 1 in from a set, the one from a set is probably a good 8-9 years old yet it is an incredible crawler. I got it crawling and it took 3 minutes to go from one side of the layout to the other

Jason at Rapido is a perfectionist, which is why their trains are highly detailed, including molding toilet seats. I have a Roco passenger car where they molded the machinery UNDERNEATH the upper level, which you only see when you open it up!!! It also helps that Rapido owns two factories in China (therir own people making their own their own products.)

Hornby 56. I have 3: 1 loadhaul, 8 pin, works well; 1 ex-sound fitted 21-pin in coal sector, works well but the lights don't work and it's missing cab inserts and buffers on one end; 1 sound fitted 21-pin in coal sector, works well but the lights don't work. All 3 have the link to the fans. Rapido J70, I don't have one but one is on my list. I like small locos, but the only things smaller than a class 17 that are super detailed that I have are a hornby 08, a bachmann 08, a bachmann 03, a hornby sentinel, 2 bachmann 57xx's, and a hornby terrier. I need to increase my fleet of small locos, preferably starting with a peckett. Dapol terrier, on my list but I'm not sure which to go for (maybe Brighton, as it was in Improved Engine Green in the 50s and 60s until withdrawl, but it was the brighton works shunter, so doubtful if it'd get to a western region branch line). Bachmann 37, I have 11 of them and they're all fantastic. I still need that specific one though, as well as large logo 025, colas 099, and a centre box /7 (like 800 or 884 in Europhoenix). However, I think the hornby super detailed HSTs (of which I have 1 pair of power cars) and the 50s (of which I now have 3, although the end steps and the louvres are too fragile) and the 60s (I have one) are better performers as well as being more detailed. But still, the bachmann 37s make my top 10 list (not that I've actually made one tbh). Dapol sentinel, great looking model but unfortunately not on my radar of wants, due to my 0 gauge being much more specific to era/area than my 00. Next up for me in that area would be a 57xx. Great video, as always. Bring on 2021, with models such as: KR Models GT3, Accurascale deltics/92s/37s, Hornby A2/2 and A2/3s and standard 2s, Dapol 121/122 and early GWR railcar and mk1s in 0, plus TPE 68s in 00, Heljan/Rails NER railcar and BR 18000 in 00, plus later GWR railcar and 121/122 trailer cars and mk2s in 0, Bachmann Improved Precedent and V2s, And more, as yet to be announced... (Looking at hornby on 5th Jan for a TPE 802/2...)

Hi Sam. Thanks for this. One of your models in this selection has a coreless motor. I understand you're not a fan of these but my question is; how does this type of motor compare with a 3 pole and 5 pole motor? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Would be good to hear what you have to say. Good also that Bachmann is doing something right and now paying more attention to their steam locos.

Thanks a lot Pete! Sure, I'm not a fan of them, but I admit they do work well in most cases! The performance is similar, but they aren't compatible for feedback controllers, and they do have a tendency to overheat if overloaded, so you have to take great care not to stress them out. Whilst i was hoping for one of the "sam the mad scientist" creations, i am glad to see so many diesel locos invading this channel .) the more one gets out of the hobby the better.
