@@wwhisperwolf it is a trade off because they ONLY use thunderbolt for display connections and run at 5-6K. Thunderbolt 4 is limited to a single display running at 30-60hz at 5-8K. This is a technological limitation because of the choices made. A different display input would be the only way to overcome that unless a new gen of thunderbolt comes with it.

I bought an Apple Studio Display, I do not regret my choice, it's connected to an M1 Mac mini. I don't like the webcam, so I bought an Insta360 Link 4k webcam that's vastly better. I chose the VESA mount as the cheap and shoddy 28-in 4k monitor I had been using was also a VESA mount. When using the previous monitor, I also had a Plugable Thunderbolt 4 hub that's rarely used now that I have three 10 Gbps downstream USB-C ports on the Studio Display.

I have Gigabyte M28U KVM and I can say, it works very well with MacOS. Using one proper thunderbolt cable, I get 4K 144 Hz, 15W power delivery, 3x USB 3.0 ports and audio output. For the picture, by default it scales to a usable resolution 1920x1080, which works for me and the state of my eyes, I don't see any kind of blurry text even when zooming or the so-called screen tearing while scrolling. Perfect for daily use. Can't say for color accuracy, since I don't do photo editing, but for a regular user like me, it's such a good "budget" (considering its 4K 144 Hz) monitor for Mac.

I got a Studio Display. It's perfect for me - designer, animator (and yes, the 60hz is not a hurdle - standard video is produced at 25fps so 60 is enough). Even my Asus 75hz screen next to it doesn't hold a candle to it. Just don't game on it! Yes, it's expensive - I kept it in its box for a week because I thought of sending it back. But that was just a week wasted off the guarantee! I'm very impressed with it.

The Pro Display XDR is 100% something that I want, but it's still missing too many features that I need. Even though it's expensive, that's not my biggest complaint. It has no built-in speakers, no webcam, and the kicker is 60Hz. After using 100Hz+, I simply cannot go back. I have a 38" Ultrawide that I really love, but the aesthetics of the XDR keep pulling me to it. So here's my wishlist and I'd absolutely pull the trigger (Apple, take note): - 2025 Pro Display XDR - Don't charge extra for the stand (or at least not $1000. That's insane) - 34" minimum (preferably larger) - 120Hz - 6k resolution - Mini LED - Built in speakers and webcam (to remove clutter from my desk) - USB-C hub - 4,000 USD or less I'd buy this in a heartbeat ^^^

I'm curious/hopeful to see Apple release new models of the Studio Display and ProDisplay XDR either this October or alongside the new Mac Studio (and maybe Mac Pro) in 2025. I think these would massively benefit from Mini LED (with more dimming zones) or even QD-OLED like you said. I also think they need to match the 120hz ProMotion displays the Macbook Pros have. Apple selling monitors that cap out at 60hz is weird since the Macbook Pros have had ProMotion for years now.

The latest iMacs have gorgeous bezels, I love the coloured chin and the white frame around the screen, it looks very stylish. And I prefer the iPhone SE and some older boxy Sony smartphones over the extreme thin bezeled majority of smart phones. I prefer having a well designed product with a screen inside than the illusion of a screen only.
