Not related but i know some people who make crushed antibiotics and put it directly on their wounds coz of its antibiotic property (ofc) but we know that's not how it works, like nsaids to face for anti-inflammatory purposes
@KetchupRocket3 жыл бұрын
@@choihaeki I know you said you know that's not how this works but for anyone who does that (oh my god no), please don't and here's why: antibiotics that are meant to be ingested should NOT be put directly into the wounds. Do NOT do that. You're running the risk of the infection multiplying within your body and spreading. Just because you have a wound on your arm doesn't mean infection hasn't seeped into your blood, and that powder created by the crushed antibiotic can cause horrible side effects because it's meant to be in your stomach, not directly into your blood/skin. Also by not taking the antibiotics properly the bacteria can become resistant over time to that drug by not getting the exposure needed to fully killing it, making it more difficult to treat next time they encounter that bacteria. Or worse, making it a stronger strain that may pass to someone else depending on if it's a strain that is spreadable. Sincerely, a nurse's daughter.

Aspirin is an NSAID (anti inflammatory) so your former "hack" makes sense. And aspirin could work in a pinch obviously because it's salicylic acid. I'm not a pro but I'd put that in the category of "I'm in a pinch, this will help", but not making this a regular skincare ritual. It's funny cuz about 10 years ago... before I even got into skincare and used a daily moisturizer (I know, it was bad. I didn't think my oily skin could handle them. Now I moisturize the hell out of my skin lol) I used to try the DIY masks in magazines and even then, I realized how expensive and inconvenient it was versus buying actual skincare. And the only thing I can honestly say ever made a difference was baking soda and I think it was the grit... cuz it made my face feel super smooth and exfoliated. But even then, it wasn't some crazy miracle. These crazy TikTok kids need to get off my lawn and go find some logic haha. (Sarcasm...I'm only 33 but that's like 55 in TikTok years). PS I love you, James. Never stop being amazing haha 💜🌙

I partially agree with your thoughts on why DIY is popular, but I also think there’s more to it. When I was a teen struggling with acne I didn’t know where to go for good advice. Nothing at the store or that my parents bought seemed to work. I didn’t under stand it and felt powerless to my acne. DIY felt really empowering and it seems so simple and it seems like you understand how to help your skin. Now I have a base line understanding of anatomy, physiology, and chemistry from college and resources like you tubers to make informed decisions.

Aspirin is actually very similar to salicylic acid that’s used in many acne treatments. I remember creating aspirin in lab by acetylization of salicylic acid. The decrease in redness is most likely due to the anti-inflammatory effects of the drug, but you have to be careful not to overuse it as it will also increase cell turnover and has potential to cause sensitization and irritation (aspirin is still a beta hydroxy acid, I believe)
@wyla58963 жыл бұрын
He also mentioned using eye drops on the face. These work differently: by vasoconstriction. Which is effective temporarily for redness, but continual use will lead to a rebound effect, making redness worse than when you started if you do not use the product continuously. Azelaic acid is a much better option for redness and has been used as a prescription for rosacea, but is available OTC.

my biggest pet peeve is when a dermatologist say something contrary to popular belief, everyone says they are lying... for example, using pure lemon juice for brightening dark spots, which in reality is not a good thing to do, and many will be like "but..." and i understand it might come from a cultural norm, but the derms are giving that sort of advice for free, like you've said!

Tylenol is an anti-inflammatory, so it reduces inflammation and redness/irritation for 4-6 hours. There are topical gels and creams for inflamed muscles and tendons (arthritis cream, etc) which do virtually the same thing, but are definitely not something I would put on my face.
@kairos-0493 жыл бұрын
So the reason anti-redness eyedrops and aspirin reduce redness is because they cause blood vessels to constrict. The redness associated with inflammation is caused by blood vessels in the area dilating in order to bring more blood to the area (more blood flow to the skin = more redness). Anti-redness eyedrops cause blood vessels to constrict and aspirin blocks an enzyme pathway which, among other things, causes vasodilation, so both of them will temporarily reduce redness, but yeah they won't actually treat acne.
