Well presented! To someone as old as I am (59), my engineering background, and a serious collection of watches, I have to say that its brilliant. Its the golden rule intersection between a casio g shock and a gold daydate president. To be worn on building sites, meeting rooms and fancy restaurants. Well done Omega and well done you on your presentation!

Easily one of the best releases of the last few years, let alone this year… this watch lends itself to so much potential when considering flanker releases (like a 36mm or 37mm alternative), etc… hopefully this can almost grow into a new line of watches for Omega…
@andrewstorm82402 жыл бұрын
Flanker?
@spazz272 жыл бұрын
@@andrewstorm8240 by flanker I mean a watch that is similar to the first original release and “flanks” it in a lineup… providing an alternative but still related to the original… such as same watch but at 37mm, etc…

I don't often get exited when new watches get released but this one made me read the article I saw about it. Its such an understated offering from Omega, it wont sell well but the omega catalogue is much better for having this in it. If I didn't have the Stowa Marine Classic this would be pretty high on my list right now. For a brand steeped in history they don't often look back, aside from the naming. (Some may say thats a good thing) Sure there is the Speedmaster, Seamaster, Ploprof and museum ranges but there is soo much more out there in their back catalogue. Id be all up for a reissue of the 60s Seamaster with a manual wound calibre and some dark coloured dials similar to the Cartier tank dials from the other year.

That’s beautiful, really captures the 1930s and 1940s elegant styling perfectly. My great uncle’s 1940-something Omega is still in the family and is a beautiful small seconds piece a lot like this. Also, it’s fantastic for Omega to be releasing something other than a ‘Limited’ Edition Speedmaster for once.

Was lucky enough to try one of these on at my AD a few weeks ago and it’s simply stunning. Omega have always been my family’s watch brand of choice at least from as far back as the fifties. Funny, looks like my Tourby Marine 40, except with a Sector dial. I like this Omega a lot. Previously I had an ETA 2492 driven Hamilton Navy Pioneer with a small seconds, which was a throwback to Hamilton's Marine Chronometers they produced during WWII. Already then I marvelled at the wonderfully blued hands you could get for a mere 700 Euros. The Tourby was my upgrade of that, with a very elaborately decorated Unitas movement and a well placed small seconds complication. These are based on the ubiquitous deck watches that originated in marines and fleets across the world as well. That said, this Omega seems the logical next step in such an evolution if I can convince myself to spend that money. :) Wonderful watch, lovely video with some nice historic background, as ever. I continue to like the fact that you place things in a context in every review you do. As to your conclusions: The deck- and railway-watches these are ultimately derived from would have been pocket watches. Making a 36mm version of this type of watch requires smaller movements. I for one like a larger hand crank in a slightly larger case, because it connects to the pocket watches these came from. The same applies to the blued hands and non-lume dial. Given its progenitors, these hands really hit the mark. There's nothing like a pair of well made blued hands on a historic looking watch. I urge you to check out brands like Tourby, Dornblüth & Sohn and finally Hentschel in Germany. That should by all means rock your boat if you like this.

A week later my AD called to tell me he just got one in stock. Even though I was not in the market for a “dress” watch, he told me to come by to see it. Have to say, it gave me a bit of a Patek feel when I wore it. Which is very nice 👍 in my opinion. While I didn’t get it, I can see this being an everyday at the office watch.
