Even if Valle isn't considered one of the best the dude is a legend in the FGC.

@osdavid no yes he was a monster. He was beating Daigo and that says a lot. It's just that some people don't give him the credit he deserves.
@burkshomemadememes4 күн бұрын
Yeah I don't think he's top 5 in fgc. Still really good, and even in later days, he was taking out people like bonchan (awful matchup) and knuckledu. He took more of a back seat with WNF, but when he comes out swinging, he could beat anyone and reminds you why he was one of the greatest players around.

Alex Valle is (and probably remains) the only American who consistently went toe to toe against the Japanese in Tournaments. He makes him vs Daigo look like Ken vs Ryu. At least in my mind.

I miss this dude. He’s like the USA’s gatekeeper vs Japan etc. Him and Choi.

I remember seeing him in the 1998 Street Fighter Alpha 3 World Championships, playing in the finals against Daigo, who was only about 17 years old at the time. He is truly a legend.

I bought cvs2 when Xbox live first came out. My uncle set my gamertag up and it had power in it. It was really dorky and I remember people making fun of it. Anyway the only reason I remember this story is they had a guy named calipower playing. I was about to give up because I couldn't even dp or qcf. I said I give up. And this guy said wait don't give up kid let me show you some stuff. He played atleast 30 games with me. Taught me alot. Turns out 20yrs later I find out calipower is alex....bro this guy is the reason I even stuck around playing fighting games. thx Alex if you ever read this, you are the man

Having tons of older footage of these legends like Alex, Daigo, John Choi etc makes me so sad there's no known confirmed footage of the original king of Street Fighter out there, Tomo Ohira. If anyone knows of any actual Tomo footage please point me in its direction

not really a thing for today's scene with players like Mena, ChrisG etc, but back then Valle was the first Latino player that was dominating. When he first started coming around, there was word that ''some Mexican is dominating Watson!' 😂 he's Peruvian but yah it was something in the late 1990s. He was also the Namco Tekken Tag1 national champion, and in the first Tekken world tournament with Japan, Korea present he got 3rd. And he made Soul Calibur 2 Nationals. He could really play anything. A true Arcade Legend.

I found street fighter 2 highlights way more impressive than later on games. Resources and options were extremely low in sf2, all rely on milimetrical presition on footsies, fireballs and dp. All of this before the "data era" and internet wasnt a thing as it is now and all the tech, information, experience, matchups, etc... Came exclusively from the arcades, one on one, no training mode, no bitching, Just lose and learn from your mistakes

might seem that way because today everybody playing competitive can learn footsies techniques very easily through tutorials and stuff and practice it. At that time however a lot of people had no idea of what was really happening here. I think this is like watching jimi hendrix playing, sure you got 8 year olds doing the same stuff, but you have to remember that hes the guy who invented modern rock guitar playing basically 😂. I think this is the same, you are watching history man
