I prefer Baroque music to all other "classical" music periods. Yes the music history lesson was a bit long and over my head, as I don't know music theory or play an instrument. Still, I liked learning the history of the development of the Baroque period.

Joe jay Me, as well, I have been told that I am narrow in the mind, in fact, rather pedantic they say!! Musically, I have rather eclectic taste, preferring French Baroque music, Renaissance, Medieval... and American Swing music of the 1930's and 40's!! How's that for paradoxical?! Like you, I don't at all like any music from about 1945 on, since I was younger in the 1970's and I never did like the music from that period, especially since I didn't carouse around drinking, smoking pot, and getting otherwise "stoned", like people my age did!! That's when I began listening to the Baroque music and I knew I'd found my niche musically!! Sorry to ramble on about my generation !! Anyway, thanks for the post!!☺️🎶

I like Baroque music as a testament to human ingenuity. Music and mathematics were regarded as precise sciences at the time and such creativity in the age of computer science finds its second wave. We are creating with bits and masters were creating with sound then. All followed the laws of the environment to create beauty.

As a former rock musician, we are well aware of the 'hierarchy' of music. Rockers tend to look up to Jazz musicians; while they in turn hold classical musicians in high esteem. Thank you for reminding me of why .

Bach was my favourite when I was at your age, too. I couldn't understand why people put Mozart above him... I loved classical music from as young as I can remember and dreamt of being concert violinist but I never had the chance to learn to play... However, there is no reason why a child couldn't like classical music, you don't have to be musically educated / adult / sophisticated for it to talk to you any more than to like the melody of a song even though you don't know what the words mean - the language of music is pure and universal and words are just another layer that can make or break the rest. (Although I must say that it took me for a while to get used to listening singing in pentatonic (?) scale: my ears untrained, it sounded like being out of tune.)

Nothing is as satisfying as: BWV 1053 & runner up; 1052, i want to jump out of my skin at the weak boringness of baroque that is not as hardcore and completely logic-grooved as 1053

BWV #1053 is the best Baroque Piece, and second place is 1052. theres no question about that. And Christine Schomsheim is the only person to perform them well & correctly, with others sounding terrible. Unfortuately, after stuff like 1053, everything else sounds weak and boring, even if you give it extra time to synch in and lock onto it more with the brain, still stays weak and boring in comparsions =(

Tedious effort that ignores the vibrant side of Baroque music. Gets a D, possibly a D+ minus the pedantic text.
