The Best Of Both Worlds - Owning a 1964 TR4 and a 1991 Mazda MX-5 Miata

A personal story. I owned a Miata in the '90s, which I sold when I moved to California. It was my first sports car. Many years later I bought a Triumph TR4. Now, I'm the owner of another Miata - just like the first. I now have a fresh appreciation for the joys and trade-offs of owning both an iconic British sports car from the 60's and a Mazda Miata, the sports car that gave new life to the concept in 90's. I drive an Nd Miata (2018), but fell in love with the car in 1990, when test drove the original version. My first car was a VW Beetle, which I bought from my father’s secretary. I wanted a Mustang or Firebird, but my father said I’d kill myself. I wrecked the Beetle several times, so he was probably right. My best friend said that a British sports car was more my style. I’m still not sure why he said that, but I feel as though I’m driving the spiritual successor. Maybe it was because I was a news junkie, and loved the BBC. When my beautiful wife passed away after 20 amazing years together, and my oldest son got his own car (a 2018 Mazda3 bought by my father-in-law in exchange for my Ford Ranger), I decided it was time to get my dream car. While a modest dream, I love my car, and it’s now my daily driver in sunny South Florida.
