Best live performance of Dave Holland : New Haven 1988. He is really underrated as a heavy metal drummer. Dave Holland can't play on an album like Painkiller, for sure. But, on the Ram It Down tour, he proved that he was a really good metal drummer ! Best performance of Dave Holland on album : Point Of Entry, a lot of groove parts on this album, I love it !

YES! Point of Entry! The often most overlooked of one of the best 3-album runs in Rock.

Played what needed to be played for the song. Held the rhythm down like a boss.
@Fakename70 Жыл бұрын
@@skxj Absolutely. In fact, I wouldn’t even consider vintage (pre-Defenders Of The Faith) Priest as Metal at all. And, I say that with total respect. I think the way the 3 albums that preceded it sound is very straightforward Rock - Heavy Rock more than Heavy Metal - primarily because of how solid Holland is. I think it really set them apart from their peers before 1984, which, for me, was the beginning of their downfall. Again, because of the drums. But, how they were recorded, not how they were played. By the time they dropped Turbo, they were completely unlistenable for me.

Dave was my favorite Judas Priest drummer. Yes, Les and Scott are more technical, but I like the more simplistic approach of Dave on the albums he played on. For me, sometimes less is more, and I think that is the type of drummer the guys in Priest were looking for at the time. I've heard Scott play some of Dave's songs where he added double bass and it did not sound good in my opinion.

The Metal Drummer that played in the Pocket. Like Jazz Just faster. When I heard the intro to "Riding on the Wind", that was it. I didn't even need to hear rest of the song. And didn't for some time. I'd just play the intro over and over. It certainly influenced me to say yes to a drum set and being a drummer. Even if it is just for me to blow off some steam. And annoy the neighbors. lol. Screaming For Vengeance turned me into a fan and Priest has been my Fav Heavy Metal band ever since. Both versions of the band are actually pretty good. But live KK Downing's Priest is one of "the best" sounding acts live I've ever heard. 2nd best live sound for me? Front of House with KK is a magician!

Got to meet Dave in September 1988 in Dallas , Texas. Great guy and a superb drummer. JP would not have made it on and into American 🇺🇸 FM Radio without his steady drumming. It sickens me that JP now barely gives him any credit for anything he gave the band. Anything after Painkiller to me is not really my kinda Priest. That’s just my feelings no one else’s. Thanx for this montage of Dave.

Try to imagine SC laying down the groove and subtlety for the album versions of the songs on British Steel and Screaming? Exactly! No comparison. No can do. If you listen to bass and drums only versions of Bloodstone, for example, you can see how his playing really helped the albums shine, albeit in an understated way. His work in the hi-hat especially was just super. DH was crucial to the brilliant JP albums and live performances of the early 80s.

And there was Rob Halford. I asked are you Rob Halford. Yes he was. I did not want to bother him and said nice to meet you. Not being a die hard fan that knew their music I did not want to fake it. I just smiled and said cool. He was approachable and friendly. I recall he had one or two people with him, but no big body guard. This was late 80's? or early 90's.
