Damn, Mike that was fantastic! Any guitar player worth their salt will tell you that the groove on I'm the One is one of Eddie's hardest to duplicate rhythms. The swing and feel is off the charts good! Glad to see Alex getting some love showing how locked into the groove he was with Eddie. Also give credit to Michael Anthony. He's so in the pocket with Alex. Just drives this whole song forward at breakneck speed feeling like you're going to fly off the rails at any second, but always in complete control. Just shows why Van Halen I was one of the greatest first albums of any band and why we're still talking about it 46 years later!

@@weeklyfascinationI seek out VH tribute bands on KZbin. None of them are even close to the original. Saw them on the women and children first tour at the Toledo Sports Arena. I was 15 and went with my older brother. We spent 2 hours clung to the handrail on a concrete wall just above the floor because the general admission show was over sold. One butt cheek on the wall, arm wrapped over the bottom rail. It was July and it had to be 120 degrees F in that place. People by the dozens being hauled out on stretchers from too many drugs and too much heat. My brother Keith said, I'm going to get us something to drink. He came back with 4 draft beers in plastic cups. To this day, the most delicious beer I've ever tasted.

VH was literally just big band swing with rock instrumentation. No one ever got close to how good they were at heavy swing. And Dave was just their Cab Calloway chewing up the scenery. AVH is my absolute favorite drummer in a list of greats.

People really do not understand how hard it is to play swing kicks like Alex. Look at Mikes face in this video, and it will tell you everything. Eddie was amazing, but Alex was every bit the drummer that Eddie was a guitarist. Well done sir, played to perfection.

Imagine being Michael Jordan's brother. You can handle yourself on the court pretty good and are recognized as being a very decent player, maybe even a few All Star Games; but again your brother is Michael Jordan. Alex is that.

When they were young, Edward would sit on the edge of his bed and practice the guitar for hours at night. Alex, who was a couple of years older, would sneak out of the house and sit in at some of LA's jazz clubs during after hours jams. That's where he learned his swing. Most of the time, when Alex would return home around 4 or 5 a.m., Edward would still be sitting on his bed practicing.
