Did you know? Schubert greatly admired Beethoven; he was one of the torch bearers at his funeral, and later asked to be buried next to him. But the admiration was far from one-sided: Beethoven is said to have examined Schubert's works on his deathbed and exclaimed "the spark of divine genius resides in this man!" Watch our video to learn the full story: bit.ly/10FactsAboutSchubert. All feedback welcome - enjoy :)

HALIDONMUSIC5 months ago, Do you have the story of a trunk full of Vivaldi's musical scores being found by an interesting art curator personality? It is said the trunk was found in an Italian monastery. The story goes, +/-, the curator did not trust to hand over the vastly precious discovery to the Italian Government (sounds familiar?) and kept his find a closely guarded secret. He managed to raise private funds to rescue the manuscripts and publish them with the assistance of his peers and friendly patrons. And that, according to this record, is how Vivaldi again became popular. I read that in a musical library website when investigating the music giants' Life stories. Can't remember the URL.

In ever changing and chaotic world today, millions are finding enchanting music of Franz Schubert enlightening. He was only one I know that created most difficult 2 pianos (4 hands). Some of his quartet/quintet are so difficult few conductors even refused to play them. In his 31 years of life his total musical pieces are more than Mozart & Beethoven combined. He is the true genius of the many musical geniuses. He is the greatest!

One day I was flipping stations on my car radio and one of the classical music stations was playing something out of the world. I never heard that music before even though, I listen to classical every now and then. Anyway, at the end of the program, the jockey announced that it was Schubert's symphony #9. OMG it was a master piece and ever since I am hooked on Schubert. What an extra ordinary composer! Schubert is one that I call a gem among humanity. In his short life on this earth, he created such a marvelous music that will keep entertaining generations for many more centuries to come. A gift from Schubert that every living human being should cherish forever.

It's gratifying to read of your budding appreciation of Schubert's music. If i may add a few suggestions for your consideration: 1. Symphony no. 8, the unfinished--often, the initial exposure to Schubert. Only two movements, but wonderful. 2. Quintet in C--chamber music which has been variously described as five good friends conversing, and by others as the greatest piece of chamber music, bar none. Interestingly, this piece has been chosen by many famous musicians, e.g., Artur Rubenstein, as the piece they would take to a desert island . Schubert also wrote another quintet, called the Trout, which is also wonderful (but not on the same emotional plane, in my opinion). 3 Piano sonata n. 19 in B flat D 960 (the sublime second movement can be heard, in truncated form, above). This was composed not long before Schubert's tragic premature death. The entire thing is worthy of a listen, although Halidonmusic apparently thinks otherwise. If you like this, try the Impromptus opus 90 4. Lieder--Schubert wrote over 600 songs, many of which approach perfection. A good place to start might be Das Erlkonig, or Du Bist du Ruh, or On dem wasser zum zingen or...you get the picture. Incidentally, a wonderful interpreter of this music is the late Dietrich Fischer-Disckeau (Sp?) Okay, that's enough--enjoy Schubert

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - ALERT - WRONG TIMELIST GIVEN - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - To those who were confused as I was with the time mentioned for each piece, apparently there's a cut at 19:53 which gives you the only first 12 seconds of Presto vivace from the 3rd Symphony, and drops you immediately to the already begun Allegro of the 5th Symphony, which means it begins from its 9 second on. This cut leads to an approximate 7 minutes gap from the time given to the actual beginning for each an every piece from Symphony no. 5 on. Therefore here are the fixed results: Symphony No. 5 in B flat major Allegro 19:53 Andante con moto 26:46 Minuetto. Allegro molto 39:28 Allegro vivace 45:10 Symphony No. 8 in B minor - Unfinished Allegro moderato 51:15 Andante con moto 1:04:52 Serenade "Leise flehen meine" 1:15:20 Moment Musical Op. 94 D 780 No. 1 Moderato in C major 1:19:52 No. 2 Andantino in A flat major 1:22:55 No. 3 Allegro moderato in F minor 1:28:33 No. 4 Moderato in C sharp minor 1:30:07 No. 5 Allegro vivace in F minor 1:34:00 No. 6 in A flat major 1:36:00 "Polonaise" in B flat major D 580 1:41:02 Piano sonata n. 19 in B flat D 960 1:43:55 Scherzo No. 1 1:47:10 "Rosamunde" Intermezzo in B flat major 1:51:17 Ave Maria 1:53:30

Desde guri que ouço e gosto de Schubert. Ele me relaxa, descansa e me dá energias para o dia-a-dia. Quando rapaz diziam que eu me parecia com ele e isso me enchia de orgulho e vaidade.

When I listened to his work,I deeply felt how sad to his life. His beautiful song came with brightness in groomy sky.
