What I love the most about Soos is that whenever he feels like the kids are in danger, he instantly shields them. Like when he and Mabel first see Bill, he wraps his arms around her because he doesn't know if Bill leaving will hurt her or not so he's completely ready to take the brunt of it. Or, of course, when he goes against Stan because as much as he loves Stan he's scared that whatever he's doing will hurt Dipper and Mabel so he's fully ready to get into a physical fight with the man he sees as a father figure to make sure the twins are safe.

Something I’ve noticed is that of the three people who worked at the mystery shack before the series really began, all of them have father issues. Wendy finds it hard to connect to rest of her family because of how violent and crazy her dad/siblings can be. Soos’ dad spends his life likely gambling and partying in places like New Orleans, only sending his son post cards on his birthdays. And Stan was kicked out after “he” ruined Ford’s chances of becoming rich and famous enough to lift the rest of the family out of the hell hole they lived in.
