Diana not only had the talent (in spades, although [IMO] not quite so as an actress earlier on), but she had the DRIVE. She proved herself herein to be a triple threat performing the "Soulful Strut" dance routine. I'll bet she put a lot of effort into this number, but then again she put a lot of effort into her entire career (and life). You can't fault a person for that.

Sorry small but important. Correction, Ethel Waters had a big break in the 1930s which was after world war one she was a big star on Broadway and in black films in the 1930s and 40s and 50s. Just didn’t want to age her so much. Diana Ross did a great tribute to her and her 1976 Broadway show and subsequent TV special “an evening with Diana Ross” She performed a segment where she pays tribute to Bessie Smith, Ethel Waters, and Josephine Baker. On the TV special she wore prosthetics and was an amazing performer. Becoming these great iconic divas that preceded her stardom.

Believe me, there have been numerous times in my life when by keeping to myself and remaining dedicated to my goals; when in the end enviable results were received, the jealous among the throng couldn't resist any type of put down available to their small minds. Could you have achieved as much as DR (all the singles and album recordings, public appearances and even movies -- had to have been exhausting)? Think on it. I have, and know for certain I couldn't have achieved 1/100th of her accomplishments-- I'm that limited, as are most folks on the planet. Like it or not, but don't be small-minded about it. These girls really had it going on. In any group its gonna be drama, but they were jealous of Diana, she was as history has proven the most dedicated talented, and driven. The work she did in Lady Sings The Blues and Mahogany, plus the designs, and the fact that she still going says it all. I love them all. This was very entertaining. I didn't no she could dance like that, superb. Thanks for sharing!!!!

James Grayson diana ross aint that talented. dhe definitely cant sin even berry gordy said so. she had a bus load of people behind the scenes at motown shaping her up. without them she wouldnt be anywhere. your ear got to be in yuh foot to say that woman can sing sounding likr alvin from the chipmunks. also i hope u know the thing is a transgender. that damn he/she had plenty help and is also a dunce. jad to work real hard to be C grade. popularity doesnt equal talent. popularity can be bought and motown paid off many. read berry gordy's autobiography and u will see he had to pay people to attend diana's first concert. he gave them half a hundred or something and told them they would get the whole sum after the concert. even miss drag queen knows that his lover bought his career. that's why most of these peiple turn to substance cause they know their sucess aint real.

Are you crazy, they wasn’t jealous of Diana. They knew that Diana wasn’t the best singer. Barry thought her voice was more commercial and could cross over, that doesn’t mean she was a better singer. Diana was actually intimidated by Flo because she knew in her heart Flo was more talented and prettier. There anger was more so towards Barry and MoTown. Please read Mary Wilson’s book to get a better understanding. Diana knew she wasn’t as good of a singer so she tried to turn Barry against Flo.

@Ronald McFondle I never heard this version she sounds lite tone without the back up very weak , but Diana carries the songs her way with energy and lots of charisma she put all she has into the song then her voice is so unique you cant keep your eyes off her,, you recognize it once you hear it which is hard to achieve and she very unpredictable on how she gonna deliver a Song, and she's clear when singing the story she's belivable not many artist possess all those skills still to this day. Thats why she's the Boss, and a Great PERFORMER , watch some of her concerts on U tube, i recommend Live at Ceaser PALACE, and The Beginning of her New York Central park Concert in the Rain..then her later tours in Europe and Now at the Hollywood Bowl shows ...60yrs of singing WOW.. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

You know I never thought Diane was a dancer. The Supremes choreo was always so simple and Mary seemed like the dancer. Diane just stood there and it was her face that was the group’s big charm. After seeing Miss Ross dance like THAT, I am absolutely amazed. I didn’t know she could move like that. Officially an amazing dancer. Just wish she did more dancing like that more often!!

When Berry first auditioned them he saw Diana's star power and that her voice was different and likely to catch on with the public. Diana had ambition and worked so hard to hone her craft. Berry said she was his inspiration she is the one who drove his dreams for Motown. Smokey said it was Diana who opened the doors to mass public appeal. Martha Reeves said that Diana was the hardest working person in showbusiness. Diana does not get the credit she deserves. I have seen Diana in concert 7 times even sang with her briefly at the Royal Albert Hall in London. John Sivorn ❤️ ❤

Brian Holland said it was actually Baby Love that took Motown to the next level. It was a massive global hit. He said he was in love with Diana who was 19 or 20 he was 23 or 24 and that he wrote Baby Love for her because she was just a baby. The doors the Supremes opened were now available to the other acts at the company. Diana was the face of Motown and Black music around the world at that time in the mid 60s.
