On a serious note. Are you guys aware of Shane Hamman? He squatted 410kgs faster than the Cuban guy in the video did 250. He was also a weightlifter and I'm sure he holds the heaviest squat for an olympic level weightlifting competitor. Not sure why Zack didn't mention him.

Clarence now officially has a 3rd channel :D just kidding, great video Zack! I don't do olympic weightlifting, mostly squats, deadlifts and bench plus some other lifts and accessories, but when I squat, I always do it high bar oly style. I also have long femurs and it took me more than half a year to achieve the mobility for full depth, but it was worth it. The squat has become my favorite lift and I love watching other people squat on the internet. So it goes without saying that this video is pure gold for me.

Powerlifters practice speedy deep squats too. It's exactly that bounce at the bottom (hamstring activation) that is highly desirable. Granted, for competition we don't need to move beyond the 'parallel', but it is something my coach encourages to do in my training anyway. The deeper you can go with good form, the better.

It is completely counterintuitive, but check out Daniel Bell's squat. He is the Raw Powerlifting ATWR holder in sleeves and wraps for the SHW, which is remarkable, but what is really weird is his style, very upright, similar to a weightlifting "style" squat. He and Rob Philippus have very unusual styles, particularly for a heavier powerlifting squat.
@zacktelander

Honestly not even that counterintuitive. Your observation is spot on! Chad Wesley Smith was a tremendous squatter who was pretty upright as well.

@awmlawoffice
@awmlawoffice 3 жыл бұрын
@@zacktelander yes, but Dan Bell looks almost strange, particularly in the hole. He is so big, yet his knees go way out over the toes. Chad Wesley Smith was upright, but his style had a little more forward lean than Bell, in my opinion. Chad is/was huge and probably has longer femurs. His knees/joints look humungous. I always thought he would be less injury prone than others, because he looked like a freaking tank.

Sad to not see Tian's 270x6 which is probably my favourite set of squats in weightlifting. Some more female squats that are different styles and bodyweights - Chen Wei Ling, compare her powerlifting squats and weightlifting squats. Perhaps the best squatter of all time. Gaelle Ketchanke, a lanky African weightlifter who squats over 200 and is my favourite example of how longer limbed people should squat. Hyejong Park, teenage super recently squatted 220kgx4 easily.

Mark Henry might be the only other guy to compete in weightlifting and squat more than Mart Seim. He competed in powerlifting and hit somewhere in the mid-900s iirc. It was a weightlifting style squat, but I'm not sure if he was wearing kneewraps or not.
