@4:40 a explaination. You are thinking more in terms of mammals that have vocal cords. In birds, they use hollow spaces within the nasal passages to direct air to create sounds. Kinda like blowing through a flute and moving your fingers over the holes to make different notes. They do not have vocal cords and it's theorized by many that dinosaurs being related did not either. So they used resonating chambers of varying complexity to communicate.

Theres actually evidence for that by now. There was a very well preserved Ankylosaur specimen (we saw the related Ankylosaurus in this movie, the one that looks like a spiked tank) that had a fossilized Syrinx in their throat which we can analyse via MRT. The Syrinx is the part of the bird which they use to produce songs, and its actually located just before the lungs and not in the head. And birds are theropod dinosaurs, more closely related to Velociraptor for example. Ankylosaurs split a very long time ago from the bird dinosaur lineage, in the earlier times of the dinosaurs. So they had to have a syrinx back then already and were making sounds. So its actually more of a dinosaur organ than a bird organ

Fun fact: The fight scene between the Spinosaurus and Tyrannosaurus was originally different with an extended animatronic segment. However, the reason the final fight is mostly CGI is that during the filming of the scene, the Spinosaurus animatronic was so powerful that it literally ripped the head off of the Tyrannosaurus animatronic, decapitating it.

Dinosaurs, like birds and reptiles, are not thought to have had any vocal chords. It is likely they would have hissed or made noises similar to reptiles. However, there are many examples of birds and reptiles who are able to make very unique and strange noises without vocal chords, like the bittern. We actually have the scans of the chambers of the Parasaurolophus's crest, which acted as a chamber for sounds. It would have sounded similar to a brass instrument and you can find reconstructions of the Parasaurolophus's sounds on youtube. watch?v=M3VUS9SihKc male bittern vocalizations as an example for how diverse sounds can be made by animals without vocal chords. watch?v=QtpSOpUDCb8 parasaurolophus sound recreation. So despite raptors not actually having had a resonating chamber, the idea of it is kinda accurate to dinosaurs... somewhat.

A bit of backstory for the film canon: after the events of The Lost World, Ingen was acquired by Masrani (the guy who made Jurassic World) and he sent scientists to Sorna to conduct research into new and better DNA extraction and cloning methods. During the eight months they were there they created the Ankylosaurus, Corythosaurus, Ceratosaurus, and Spinosaurus, running tests and experiments on them until the eight months were up and the scientists left, abandoning the dinosaurs on the island. The Spinosaurus held a grudge against humans from all of the tests and experimenting, which is why it was so determined to kill the group. Masrani later gathered up many of the animals on Sorna to transport them to Nublar for Jurassic World, but the Spinosaurus wasn't included and it was later taken by Mantah Corp to their own research island along with the Ceratosaurus and some other dinosaurs. And a bit of history on the movie itself: the making of it was a massive shitstorm. The script and story went through so many rewrites it's impossible to list them all, and the script was being written and rewritten during filming, basically changing the story as the movie was made. That's why there's a lot of weird bits like the mystery creature that eats the boaters at the beginning that's never touched on again.

I’m going to be honest and real to the majority of you, but this was my first Jurassic Park film I saw in theaters and even if this wasn’t everyone’s favorite JP film as they prefer The Lost World over this one, it did help most of us who were born in the mid-late 1990’s to watch the other films in the franchise before Jurassic World came out 14 years later, plus I love that the Pteranodon plays a larger role in this as their one of my favorite Dinosaur, even though its a Pterosaur. In addition, it was good to see Sam Neil and Laura Dern as Dr. Alan Grant and Ellie in the film, the former in much larger role and we wouldn’t even see them again until _Jurassic World Dominion_ 21 years later. This is low key, in my opinion, the most underrated and unappreciated sequel to the first Jurassic Park trilogy and to the franchise as a whole. It genuinely makes the lore and backstory for Isla Sorna much more mysterious and ominous by revealing how gargantuan the island really. Contrasting with the previous installment, the island’s ecologies and environmental biomes are drastically different. Not only are there hardwood forests of deciduous and coniferous trees, grasslands, and rocky-cliff beaches, but there are also expanses of jungles, swamps, river channels, and tropical sand beaches. Moreover, there is a plethora of undocumented, illegal dinosaurs running amuck that InGen secretly engineered and other variants or species of dinosaurs. According the novel and the arcade game (The Lost World book and arcade game respectively), there is supposedly a pack of Carnotaurus roaming the island, a Deinosuchus dwells in one of the lakes, and various other dinosaurs thrive on the island. Finally, obscurely abandoned facilities like The Aviary, are scattered and hidden behind the lethal veils of the cloud forests. Who knows what lost treasures are still lying in ruin, amongst the literal *living* fossils? 90 minutes was too short for this movie. PS: in my opinion, Jurassic Word: Fallen Kingdom was actually the worst sequel out of the entire franchise. But that’s my opinion for different reasons. It’s still great visually, but Jurassic Park III’s plot was better out of the two “bad” sequels.

While I agree with that sentiment, I dont think that was the only reason they didnt end up together. What I always found very telling is their scene where they discuss raptors. And he is like ''remember what they sound like?'' with almost awe. Despite his experiences he is still amazed by raptors and curious about them. Id argue even slightly obsessed. While Ellie is looking uncomfortable and is like ''I try not too''. I think they coped with their trauma differently. She wanted to move on from it all, he was still interested in the raptors, proven by the fact he was holding a lecture about raptors being the dominant species today if the extinction event had not happend. While he doesnt consider those JP raptors true raptors, they are the closest thing to it and he cant help but use his experience with them for his work or at least fuel his curiousity and fascination with raptors further. I think Ellie was 100% done with raptors, while Alan was doubling down on raptor research. Which could result in to much ptsd episodes for Ellie. So for me this scene always seemed to show rather then tell why they didnt work. Even more so then kids.

They all said that the T-Rex should have won that fight. It is true however now that I think of it, that the 3rd movie really did need a new bigger threat than a T-Rex because if it didn't, the repetition of T-Rex being the main threat would have gotten real old. So within the deeper lore, and Jurassic Park KZbinr Klayton Fioriti has covered numerous videos about it, the Spinosaurus along with Ankylosaurus Corythosaurus and Ceratosaurus were all cloned illegally during the Gene Gaurd Act(which was created so no one would clone anymore Dinos after the San Diego incident) Well some unethical Ingen Scientists got on the island including Dr. Wu and did just that without any of the higher ups of Ingen/Masrani knowing, then they just abandoned them. Now a lot of people have theorized, due to its extremely high aggression, that the Spinosaurus may have been the first ever hybrid created, but it’s never really been confirmed. You can find more information on the Dinosaur protection group website as well as the masrani backdoor website too. Now this movie went through a lot of script changes and a lot of other issues, originally Billy was suppose to die.

Something to say about the raptor sound. They called it a resonance chamber. You can make sounds by blowing into your hands with the right shape. These movies typically use what I call “potentially reasonable science” (not real science but something that seems like it could be real) and I think that is an example of it.

One reason this movie feels weak to a lot of people is that the script kept changing even while they were filming. So they didn't have a complete plan before they started filming, and things just kept changing. To me it feels like there are a lot of individual elements that didn't necessarily interact with each other like in the other movies. They encounter the spino, they encounter the pterodasaurs, they encounter the raptors. But none of those encounters really interacted with each other, or directly led into another to increase the tension. They were all individual encounters, where if you split them off into their own movie, it would still make complete sense. You require 0 information from the other scenes to make it work. I still liked JP3, I had it on DVD as a kid so I watched it a LOT. But it is definitely weaker than the other two, and I think it's largely for that reason

People might find Mrs Kirby annoying but she's reacting the way I think most people would in that situation. She's just a normal.person suddenly dropped in the middle of an island filled with killer dinosaurs, she's worried sick about her son, and to a lesser extent her boyfriend and she has no real knowledge about the dinosaurs like Grant and Billy so she has no idea how to react around them and she's not military or anything like that so she's had no treaining on how to stay calm in extremely dangerous situations. She's reacting exactly like what she is; untrained, without the needed knowledge, scared out of her wits but still desperate to rescue her son and I don't think she deserves the hate that she gets. I doubt any of the peoole criticising her would do much, if any better if they suddenly found themselves in that situation. This film does heve its fauls, no wuestion if that. The Spino can bust through a metal fence but not a wooden hut door for instance but Mrs Kirby is not one of them.
@thecocoacouch9 ай бұрын
No one is annoyed she’s a normal person responding like a normal person surrounded by dinosaurs, people find her annoying because she’s annoying 😆it’s the fact that they ARE normal people with no knowledge of dinosaurs yet went to this island unprepared and lied to Allan. There’s a big difference between not knowing about dinosaurs and not having common sense. They lack the later a lot. Also just from a filmmaking pov, the writing is intended for the audience to dislike them. They’re “problem” that sends Allan into another adventure narratively speaking.

"Mr. Noodle" on another note, despite I think this is the second worse movie of the six I love it more than any of the World trilogy because it exudes, style, cheese, and soul. you can feel this is a movie someone wanted to make, they weren't the best....but they wanted to make it.

This is the movie that made me fall in love with the Spinosaurus! Since this movie came out it's been discovered they were mostly water based and moved on all fours whenever they would come out of the water but I prefer this depiction despite the inaccuracies now 😅 I really can't understand the hate of this movie! We had it on VHS and was the only Jurassic Park movie we had in our household before finally getting the other 2 movies on VHS from a Goodwill(secondhand store). We had seen the first 2 movies on TV but the 3rd was the one we owned so we would watch it a lot. Could be the reason I prefer this movie and love it so much lol 😆 I feel like the Jurassic Park movies go 3rd, 1st, and then 2nd for me in terms of favorite and enjoyment. Of course it's different for everyone and I'm not going to bash anyone for liking or hating this movie or the others or having a different ranking of all 3. Like what you like and hate what you hate! No judgement on my end! Just please don't judge or bash mine lol 😅 Thanks for the reactions to this trilogy! Looking forward to seeing you do the Jurassic World trilogy now(I personally loved them despite the mixed opinions on them) 💜

The problem, for me, with the sequels is that all the intelligent questions about the morality/immorality of bringing back an extinct prehistoric species, have already been asked. Where do you go from there? Sadly, all they did with the sequels was retread the same steps of getting people on the island, some just in it for the money, others unaware of the danger, and, the thing get weak fast.

The third movie holds a special place in my heart because it was actually the first one I saw. I was visiting my cousin and it was the scariest movie I'd ever seen, the part where the guy gets snatched while the plane is heading right towards him and he accepts his abandonment particularly horrified me. For some reason, the movie planted an illogical fear that there were dinosaurs lurking under my bed. I knew it was dumb and impossible for a million reasons but it was this random, nonsensical dread I couldn't shake for weeks. The weirdest part of all is that I've talked to people who watched the third one at that same young age and they went through the same "dinosaurs under the bed" fear, too!! Something unintentionally subliminal, I guess.

You can use a conch shell to sound like a horn and woodwind and brass instruments make all kinds of sounds without strings like vocal cords. Even a whistle is blowing air, no vocal cords in use. The dinosaurs weren't trying to actually speak after all.

I know a lot of people hate this movie (mainly due to the annoying parents and some hate that Grant and Ellie never got together), but even though the first is my favorite, the third one holds a special place in my heart just due to the chill factor. The ringtone will never leave my memory and is so endlessly nostalgic and iconic for me. Any time I hear it, I instantly think of the Spinosaurus. Or the entire bird cage sequence; chills. (I want to say that they're Quetzalcoatl's but I'm not 100% sure on that) Edit: Someone else called them Pterodactyl's; the most obvious choice. I guess I'm just obsessed with the Quetz rn

ALSO the jurassic world movies are great i just dont consider them in the same ball park they are very different, not bad just different.

Appearently an unpopular opinion but I love the Kirbies. Exactly because they are neither experts on dinosaurs, or experts in survival, or experts in combat/weapons/hunting. They are just 2 average people who went beyond to try and save their son. They make mistakes, they are not action heroes or the smartest person in the scene, or the problem solvers. But they are brave and loving people. Yes brave. Being scared doesnt mean your not brave. Going to an island thats known as a death trap for humans is brave. And by the end of the movie Paul has had his face off with the Spino, and Amanda with a velociraptor alpha. Both where scared, but both kept their cool and came out alive. They where not even on the island for a week and where already showing signs of serious growth, as people, but also at survival and dino knowledge. The kirbies dont get enough credit because they arent the default cool guys, the good looking handsome or pretty ones (not that they are ugly but you get my point) they are normal people. And I love that. I love Alan Grant, he is my favorite of the first movie. I think Eric is one of the coolest kid characters in the franchise (Tim and Lex are favorite due to nostalgia not gonna lie) and Billy is a great support character. I love the whole core group in this honestly. But I am always sad when I see the Kirbies hate start, especialy Amanda is a victem of this. When arguably Billy made the biggest mistake in the whole movie post landing the plane. (And I dont judge him harshly for it because he was trying to save their dig, which is very important to them). What this youtuber and many other seem to forget is that Paul and Amanda where trying to find and save their son. Not just survive the island. Being quiet is smart if you want to survive, but it does little to help you find your son. (Meanwhile Eric who shouts mom and dad gets a free pass for the shouting from the same watchers) I dont get the hate at normal people behaving normaly (using a megaphone or shouting to find a missing person in a lush jungle, as silent seeking is very unlikely to find anyone realisticly), being scared and shook when a skeleton suddenly gets stuck to you, never mind the skeleton of somebody you knew, or doing something as silly as trying to kick in a vending machine when your not strong enough to do so, because you saw another guy do it etc. Maybe the Kirbies where being ''stupid'' at times but I think their level of stupid is very believable. Unlike Owen and Claire's level of stupid in jurassic world. (the whole Irex pen situation which involves 2 actual experts. 1 predator dino expert, and 1 park management filled with dangerous dino's expert) I will take the Kirbies over action heroes any day. Also it is NOT refreshing to roll your eyes at normal people doing normal things during stress and fear. Its refreshing to have normal people as protagonists in a movie like this though. To bad they are not apriciated for it. I wonder how you would act if you got tangled to a corpse of your lover or other loved one or got chased by something like a spino or velociraptor. Most of us are Kirbies lets be real here, even when we like to pretend we'd be the Alan of the group.

Now I must dispute a point you made. A language doesn't actually require vocal cords. A language could simply be a code of sounds uttered. Coughing could mean one thing and sneezing another. I don't think Grant was implying that the velociraptors' language was as complex as our own (although the dialogue 'smarter than primates' might imply that by one interpretation).
