Random little fact. Hammond in the opening mentions to Malcolm the 3 deaths referring to Genaro (the Lawyer) Mr. Arnold (Samuel L. Jackson) and Robert (the Hunter/Raptor expert) he doesn't mention Dennis the guy who shut everything down to steal the embryos. This is because his body was technically never found so no one knows where he is or what happened to him.

To answer your question about the compies hunting that guy. It's not clear in the movie. But in the novel the compies saliva is venomous. Whatever they would bite would basically fall into anesthesia effects causing them to sleep/pass out. So they would track what they bit until the effects set in. Then they would eat their prey alive.

In the books, the grandkids mess with the speaker system after the events of Jurassic Park and scare Hammond who was internally cursing them because he really brought them there to guilt trip the others into endorsing the park. Compys got to him and his last thoughts were on how the compys hunted the young, old and infirm with a venom that eased you to sleep.

I'm just going off the clips shown here, but it seemed like he was responding to her comment about the parental instincts of T-Rex. As a parent himself, he realized the next logical step as a parent would be to attack the person that kidnapped your child. Been a while since I saw the whole movie tho so I could be wrong.

The Lost World has some great deleted scenes, especially the one introducing Roland and Ajay at a bar in Kenya. Roland has been a professional hunter for decades and having hunted every dangerous animal there is, has grown bored and wants a greater challenge. Ajay has been his partner for many years, which makes Roland's sadness much more relatable after Ajay's death. The scene was deleted for pacing issues, but is often shown in TV broadcasts.

What makes these movies still look so good is that they did know verry well when to use animatronics and when to use CGI. The 1999 documantary walking with dinosaurs also manages to still look pretty good. At that time it was also one off the first times dinosaurs were portrayed as animals and not as monsters. Both the jurrasic park movies and the walking with dinosaurs documentary were a big part off my childhood.

I'm sorry, but if a Tyrannosaurus rex (or any predator) stuck its head in my tent while I was asleep, I'd be pissing/shitting myself. I also feel so bad when Eddie gets Lady & The Tramped by the male and female Tyrannosaurs. Side notes: 1. The little green dinosaur is a carnivorous species called Compsognathus. 2. In the novel of The Lost World, Cathy Bowman (the little girl on the beach) is revealed to have survived her ordeal with the Compsognathuses. 3. You can tell the male and female Tyrannosauruses apart, since the female is larger than the male. (similar to female Goliath bird-eating spiders, black widow spiders and praying mantises).

They based the idea of the female being larger than the males on modern raptors like eagles, hawks, and owls, rather than on bugs. They are modern dinosaurs after all.

While this film isn’t my favorite and it doesn’t top the original film, I still enjoy the film thanks to Jeff Goldblum’s performance as Ian Malcolm, the visual effects and seeing more familiar and new dinosaurs. The Funny thing is that I saw bits and pieces of the movie when I was a kid but the only parts I remember were the little Girl being surrounded by the Compies in the beginning of the movie and Ian and Sarah operating on the baby T-Rex before the parents arrive and Ian rescue Sarah and the Baby T.Rex when the truck was falling. Lastly, I always wondered what happened to Dr. Sarah Harding and Ian’s daughter, Kelly Curtis following this film since they never appeared nor were they ever mentioned in the _Jurassic World_ movies. Looking forward to your reaction to the third film and the _Jurassic World_ films.

The guy in the phone box is David Koepp, one of the screenwriters :) Also Steven Spielberg has a little Easter egg at he end - when they are all watching the convoy of boats going back to Isla Sorna, you see the reflections in the tv of Ian, Sarah and Kelly. In one of those very brief shots, you can see Steven Spielberg sat on the sofa with them in the reflection. Fun little thing to find :)

I hated the hunter when I watched this as a kid and identified with Sarah a lot as an animal lover. There were years between the films, so it's easy to forget the carnage and remember what it was like to see the Brachiosaurus for the first time. That's the mode Sarah is in for the first part of the film. As an adult, I don't like his behavior in the beginning, but I like the hunter's attitude and the way his character changes through the movie. I still like Sarah because I would absolutely give my life to see prehistoric animals for a few days.

I know what you mean. There is actually a deleted scene that introduces him before we see him on the island. One that was included in the 4 part Dark Horse or IDW comic book adaptation of this movie. This scene shows when Ludlow hires Dodgeson at a bar in Africa I think. It showed Dodgeson putting a drunken brute who was harassing the attractive waitress by beating him with one hand actually tied behind his back. Shows he's got principals and is super tough. Can't agree with his ethics being a hunter either, but at least he has some morals. Another deleted scene showed it was one of his men who broke the baby rex's leg, not him.

In the first book (spoilert alert if someone wants to read them) . . . . . . . . . . . Is John Ammond that dies by Compsognathus and he is actually a pretty evil guy, not like the lovely old man from the movies. And you die from compy bites (and from any reptiles bite) due to the awful amount of bacterias in their saliva directly shot into your bloodstream (if you're "lucky" enough not to die because of the bite itself). This was explained in the first book as well.

The opening scene of this movie harkens back to a similar scene in the original Michael Crichton novel (he wrote two Jurassic Park novels) where a few "compys" are discovered eating a LIVE NEW BORN HUMAN BABY a BITE AT A TIME Jurassic Park is just one of about 18 novels written by the brilliant Dr John Michael Crichton MD that have been adapted into motion pictures. Also Michael Crichton, as executive producer and creator of television's E.R., could IMHO credibly be given most of the credit for launching the careers of Noah Wylie, Eriq La Salle, Julianna Margulies, Maura Tierney, and uh oh yeah some guy named George Clooney whose BEST E.R. episodes IMHO are ALL scenes he did with his IRL Mom Rosemary.

The compies (the small dinos that eat the bad guy hunter) are supposed to be mildly venomous according to the books and the Netflix show "Camp Cretaceous". That's how they were able to kill the hunter, lots of small doses of venom to weaken him until they could swarm him.

For the compys (the swarms of little dinos), which it isn't explained as much in the movie, but it is in the book. Their bites have a bit of a toxin in them that makes the prey grow weaker and more slow...similar to a Komodo dragon. When a prey is first swarmed, they try to bite it as many times as possible if they can't overpower it the first time. Then, they just follow it until it ultimately is too weak to get away from them. There is actually some debate on what actually happened to the crew of the ship in the end. Some speculate that raptors stowed away on the ship and killed the crew which led to the ship crashing into the docks. Though apparently it was confirmed that the T.Rex actually did it. What isn't shown very well is that the steering cabin of the ship isn't fully enclosed, the back wall is completely open. So the T.Rex woke up and managed to get out, killing most of the crew, including the captain steering. It was then lured back down into the holding area where a dying crewmember managed to shut it back in before succumbing to their injuries.

Some things about the boat that transports the T-Rex don't make sense; like how did the guy who closed the door on the T-Rex die, and how did the guy in the cabin get killed when the T-Rex wouldn't even fit. Things like that. I recall seeing once that they'd originally intended for a small pack of raptors to have gotten onto the boat and then escape into the city as well, but they cut it because they didn't have a good way to stop them all without just killing them, which would kind of undermine the whole message of the movie.

While it's not the original, I love that it's so different from the first one and it went in a different darker direction... it's still so fun and action packed, the score is nonstop thrills, we get to actually see velociraptors hunt in packs and it has one of the best action set pieces ever directed: the two T-Rexes attacking the truck and throwing it over the cliff.

Fun fact, even though I don’t remember the full story…the character Robert Burke in this movie is a reference and/or parody of real world paleontologist Robert Bakker, whose theories often clashed with those of Jack Horner, who worked on the first four movies in this franchise…most reluctant to this story is that debate of weather or not T Rex was a hunter of scavenger, Bakker believed the former, and Horner the latter. And Burke’s death in this movie is a reference to that debate, apparently when Bakker saw that death, he just said “I told you T Rex was a predator” which is honestly the best attitude you can have for your rival killing a parody version of you

I think you can tell the difference in the CGI between the first two by the fact that when the Velociraptor leaps on the guy from from the grass and is fully extended, that's a CGI shot in it looks really good, and shows how galvanic and active these creatures would be as opposed to the limits that were placed on their movements by the use of animatronics and actors in suits in the first one.

A couple fun facts if you don't mind very mild spoliers to the novels..... .... The idiot guy who bothered the Compys ( minis), his scene where he fell down the hill and got attacked by the Compys, a similar thing happened to Hammond at the end of the first book. So come The Lost World novel, recordings were used for him instead. Then the last 20 minutes never happened in the book. It was highly emphasized not to take dinos off the island. Everything finished on the island.

It's hilarious that you noticed the similarities there in John's music. He actually did something similar with Star Wars & Harry Potter where he accidentally let the same musical score get printed for both films because he was composing them both at the same time.

The compy death scene was, in the novel, Hammond’s death after going off on his own and getting jumpscared by his grandchildren playing a T Rex roar? (I forgot what they did with the PA system) and falls into a ravine, breaks legs, and falls victim to the anesthetic compy bites as they eat him alive. Also being from San Diego, I was hoping a Jurassic Park would have been there lol.

In the original "Jurassic Park" novel it is explained that the "Compy's" the tiny dinosaurs who take down Deter have an enzyme in their saliva that causes a tranquilizing or narcotic effect when bitten by enough of them. With this they can subdue larger prey and just wait for them to pass out making it easier to feed. That's why it seemed as if they'd attack and back off and wait and see if it was taking effect.

Idk if anyone noticed, but the compy that popped out at the one guy, it had a red eye, meaning that was the same one he zapped. Also yeah, basically, it isnt said in the movies but the compies have venom in their bites that basically act like anesthesia

There was a video game, Lost World: Chaos Island. Would be considered rather lame bt today's game standards. But when you clicked on Eddie, the character who got ripped in half, sometimes he would say, "Didn't I die, in..in the movie, I died."

Hot take but The Lost World IS my favorite Jurassic Park film. I think it's even better than the original (I KNOW.. I know, but Ian is my favorite character in the franchise so him being the main protag of an entire film just wins for me)

I think "Lost World: Jurassic Park" is one of John Williams best work. You can just hear how much fun he had with it. It is much more primal and darker than the score of the first movie.

the 5 deaths is an artifact of the adaptation from book to film. in the novel there was a local legend that a warrior was caught and sentenced to death by a King and each island represented a different type of death punishment from immolation to hanging to decapitation and the warrior responded by saying he wanted them all. also herbivores are not actually a really good sight. In nature herbivores are commonly the most dangerous animals. Hippos and elephants for instance kill more humans than lions, tigers, bears or wolves. Other humans, saltwater crocs, dogs and snakes are the only macro-animals deadlier. Herbivores are naturally aggressive because they are preyed on by carnivores while carnivores in general don't attack unless hungry and are relatively easy to scare off in most instances (again unless starving) because injury for them spells death. good news with eddie is that he died before being ripped and he didn't share the gruesome death of his book counterpart which is more graphic and touched on a lot longer. Also glad you touched on the Nick getting the hunters to listen, it's one of the things that bothers me most. They would have absolutely no reason to like or respect him while even if Ludlow is a bad leader and not effective motivator he'd actually have enough to get them to listen since he still is paying them and it wasn't his fault things went south. If they wanted to still highlight that then Ian should have roused the group instead of Nick. Originally all of the hunting group wouldn't have died with the raptors, instead some would have survived to the workers village or to jump off the tall grass into a controlled descent over a cliff with gliders....where they would be attacked by pterosaurs who would finish them off but that was cut down or thrown out in favor of the san diego stuff. also you missed the nick van owen joke...lol ian did what nick did earlier in the movie by saying his full name. Last, flying dinosaurs are actually full reptiles. Oh and the extended soundtrack is available for purchase or youtube, it is a must listen. Some of the tracks that were newly released (not on a previous version of the soundtrack or completely unused in the film) are incredible, a good listen for a music fan. Very unique to film scores.

Something about Compys that they neglected to say in the movie is that they have a venomous bite, in small doses its not that bad but it's more lethal the more there are. They're mainly scavengers though, meaning they just eat leftovers from a kill from bigger carnivores.

Roland wanted to hunt the T-Rex because he had already hunted basically every other land carnivore on Earth and he was bored out of his mind. In a deleted scene, he pics a fight with a group of guys in their 30's and fought them all with one hand literally tied behind his back, messed all of them up, and Ajay (his best friend) remarked that he did it out of sheer boredom. Once he learned about the existence of the T-Rex, he felt it was his last opportunity for an actual challenge as a hunter.

@@thecocoacouchI imagine it's similar to how a UFC fighter wants to fight the best of the best opponents so he/she can prove they're the best. Roland is a hunter and he wants to prove that he's the best by hunting the best of the best and the most dangerous animals there are. A herbivore aint really that dangerous; a carnivore is. He probs also just enjoys the hunt and the adrenaline from it too I imagine. Keep in mind that all hunters are obviously not like Roland lol. Most hunters hunt to put food on their table or cause an animal in their area is causing trouble for the public or their way of living.

So two of the scenes that I can think of off the top of my head were still from the first book, the scene with the Compys killing that one guy en masse, as that was how Hammond died in the first one, and the scene where the T-Rex is trying to get them with his tongue behind the waterfall. In the original book there wasn't an infant T-Rex, there was a younger one that was like half grown and they were fighting over territory, but I don't know if there was an infant T-Rex in the second book because I've never finished it. I've tried to read it like three times. The first book Is SO gripping I can't put it down, and the second one keeps halting me about halfway through because I'm not really interested in where they're going with it. The films definitely take their own tack though. Looking forward to you progressing through this franchise.
