Great lessons, reeeeally liking these blues episodes, such small difference like one or two note changes to the overused scales, and boom there's a completely new and huge world to explore, actually fantastic. Respect, sir

Dani is such a great player and teacher. Having said that, that specific tone is not my cup of tea.

Not my favorite tone either. He's had it for a long time. It is different, and obviously it works for him. Also, I can recognize Dani's tone. That is a rare thing for a guitar player of any stripe.

@@drkaplin98 i agree with that sentiment. Having said that, with all the effects he has to make that tone, it nullifies whatever natural tone he gets out of his super fancy custom boutique strat.

Hi Dani. Recently discovered your lessons and the music you play and i really admire the way you teach and play. As i am watching a lot of your videos i come to the point where i don't know how to handle that much information in practice. I understand all the concepts that you talk about but struggle to put them into productive practice because i don't know where to start. To give some perspective, i am a rock/blues player who studied music 10 years ago, failed at jazz University very quickly mainly because of the same problem. Any tips? Thank you so much for all this content!

You probably need a teacher if that’s what you’re running into since you’re having trouble computing the info and extracting the next step. That’s really all a teacher can do for a student. Since I don’t know you’re particular issues it’s hard to say but arpeggiating triads through tunes to follow the harmony and working on subdividing when playing on grooves is a pretty full proof place to start. You want to be sure that you are attaching things to your playing and the way you see the instrument as opposed to collecting random licks

Any advice to conditioning oneself to add that sharp 6 to harmonic minor to get the melodic minor sound? Also, because I dont think of the "bonus names" of the harmonic or melodic minor modes, is it correct that if Aeolian is the 5th mode of the series of standard modes, is Altered basically Mixolydian with a sharp 7, and the root is a halfstep up from itself so in E minor its D# (Eb) mixolydian sharp 7. I know this is kinda a weird way to access those sounds but mathematically it seems correct. Hope i'm not asking questions beyond free advice here, as I myself would get a teacher if I could afford one, and I dont think I have the brain power to go to university for music, nor do I enjoy actual jazz enough to do so, I love Allan Holdsworth and some fusion but I dont dig Coltrane at all, I know, very contradictory as Coltrane was an influence. I also love Shawn Lane.

The difference between melodic minor and harmonic minor is indeed the 6th. b6 for harmonic and natural 6 for melodic. The second statement you made is more confusing. If you need to think of it like an adjusted major scale mode than it’s like Locrian with a b4 thus it’s nickname super locrian. Hope this helps
