Exactly! It's the same with cards like Najeela, which reads: "Whenever a Warrior you control attacks...". As soon as these cards trigger, they check if there is any number greater than 1 and they trigger according to that number... So putting the Lens on Gorm seems funny!

My favorite deck to date is a Bruse Tarl and Kydele deck. Typically when people see the deck they assume it's some sort of wheel combo deck, but actually it's an enchantress Voltron deck. The deck functions like an uril the miststalker deck but with blue in it! People are always blown away by how well it works and I challenged myself by only using basics (and a command tower) slowing down a little bit but still keeping strong enough where it wins more than it's fair share of games. Awesome videos as always, you guys keep my hour and a half commute bearable!

The reason Rowan doesn't have Goad, is because goad only affects the creatures that player controls that were on the battlefield at the time goad is triggered. Her ability can affect hasted creatures played that next turn.

I'll kidnap this comment about them to give the math that Josh was having trouble with: what you do is divide the odds. So 1 coin is 50/50, so you have 50% chance of flipping a second coin that has 50% chance to win, so it's 25% chance . So the table goes 50% chance of drawing at least 1 card, 25% chance of drawing at least 2 cards, 12,5% for 3 cards, 6% for 4, 3% for 5 and so on.

I love this show and everything about it, but I can't help but wonder why Jimmy and Josh seem to do so little research on the topics they are talking about. For instance, they overhype Kydle and Vial Smasher completely. There are two Tier 1 decks ( = Best few decks in the format!!) that use Partners. We have Thrasios + Tymna (relies on drawing an unlimited amount of cards with Thrasios's ability after generating infinite mana) and Tymna + Tana (is mostly based on locking down the game by using STAX and other hate cards and ulimately winning by making infinite tokens with Kiki Jiki). 32:00 when you add up all chances (50% of 1, 25% of 2 etc) you end up estimating 2 (when going to infinity) so in the end, it roughly draws you two cards per turn. which is quite nice

My opinion is Pir leads the deck into being Simic Super Friends. Toothy gives the blue color, is an on hand wall for your planeswalkers that if the opponents try to get rid of it to swing at the planeswalkers, you get to draw. You can also play flicker cards with him that if you want you can use them with the planeswalkers to reset their loyalty if you minus a lot.

Brand new to the game, been borrowing a friends deck for a few weeks, learning how to play EDH/Commander(?). I really like the only green deck, with building all these big creatures... I went to Target and blindly bought a duel deck with a green legendary creature showing, ended up with "Ezuri, Renegade Leader", but came with 2, 60 card decks that im not really able to mesh together, green vs red. As i start building my own first deck, ive been researching different cards and strats. Found your channel and ive been watching so many episodes over the last week. The Game Knights episodes are really nice, as they break down what every card is capable of as it enters the field, BIG FAN of that. But really i just wanted to say hi, and to keep doing you. The funny thing with Zndrsplt, it’s possible to accidentally mill yourself because the draw is a must and it’s possible to draw your deck out before you lose 😂

Just so you know, the "flip a coin until you lose a flip" cards both average out to exactly one coin flip win per turn. So for example, Zndrsplt will draw you one card per turn, on average. Your odds of winning one coin flip are 1 in 2, your odds of winning two in a row are 1 in 4, then 1 in 8, and so on. If you add that all up, 1/2+1/4+1/8+1/16+1/32+1/64... works out to exactly 1.

For Will and Rowan Kenrith, while I will say that Will is far better, I feel like you should still play them as partners. You may build the deck with the intention of never even playing Rowan but I would say it is still worth playing her just to open up red. This is because I feel like with Will's ultimate and -2 there is a lot of synergy with red damaging spells.

One of my sweetest decks is my Kraum and Ishai pillowfort/control deck which is heavily themed around Sunforger. I get to do boros voltron things with gisela, aurelia etc. whilst sitting behind Propaganda, Crawlspace, Spires of Orazca etc. but with the ability to get counterflux or render silent from the sunforger if anyone tries to ruin my day... and hey if they succeed there's always Approach of the Second Sun.

pir and toothy, use clone affects and keep the clone. when you clone toothy it will add 2 counters for each card, then cast the original and then gain 2 counters for each card that time. this would do a little more than quadrupling toothies counters. Even without pir on the field the clone will still end up copying all of the counters of toothy, thus letting you draw a card for each counter on toothy, whenever, essentially without cost. No use affects that sacrafice a creature, like greater good for instance, and you have a turn where you can draw your whole deck. I mean, a big staple in blue decks is chasm skulker right? well toothy is a lot like that, except it does commander damage and draws cards instead of crapping out tokens.

One thing I noticed, zndrsplt and okaun's abilities say whenever a player wins a coin flip, so if you are playing against another player who is also playing the pair, you would be able to draw a card and double okaun's power and toughness everytime they do and vice versa.

Also, Toothy and Deadeye Navigator? You flicker Toothy, which triggers its ability, but it won't resolve until Toothy is back on the battlefield from Deadeye's flicker. So its own draw ability will put counters back on himself. Then repeat.

@The Command Zone You ALWAYS draw one card / double Okaun each combat. It says when ANY player wins, X happens. So when your opponent wins the first flip you still get the card's effect to proc. Massive value, in my opinion.

One of my favorite decks I've made that uses partner commanders is the pairing of "Ravos, Soultender" and "Reyhan, Last of the Abzan". Basically you put a bunch of +1/+1 counters on creatures, sac them to affects like "Attrition", and either make Ravos or Reyhan huge. It's not the greatest deck I've made, but it can be fun.

For an FYI utilizing the original 15 partners there are a possible 210 unique combinations. So the actual effective combinations are even fewer relative to the whole than they said. If they add just one more commander with the partner mechanic you get 240 combinations and if they had made 20 (2 of each color pair) you would have 380 combinations.

My Ravos, Soultender// Kraum, Ludevic's Opus "Flying Bro's"-Deck works pretty good!On top of that: i understand and respect what both of em mean by saying there are just a couple of viable OG-Partner-combinations but imo it's not always about powerlevel; it can be very satisfying and fun to run a less competitive Partner combination and still be able to keep pace with the (more) competitive decks in your meta. I'll say this, my buddy built Krav/Regna and Regna is only cast as a backup value engine, she's very good but the deck is Krav Aristocrats and it's a BEAST. Casting Regna feels similar to casting Edgar, if you're casting her, you're either winning already, or losing and are desperate lol.

The coin flip partners create a geometric probability distribution where x= the number of times you flip a coin and p=.5. This would make the average outcome 2 flips, meaning you win one and lose the next. On average you draw one card each combat

Or the Khorvath in 5C dragons BECAUSE it fetches Sylvia. If one of the partners is good enough in your deck, I don't think adding the other is a mistake.

An interesting spin on "partner with" would be "Partner with tribe" e.g. "Partners with Wizards" this avoids the open ended risk but gives some flexibility - it could also work in non commander focused sets if it tutored for that tribeas it would. You could substitute tribe for colour or some other restriction.c

Great video as always guys! Only thing is that I think Pir and Toothy actually work really well with Psychosis Crawler, Thasios, Fathom Mage, Vorel of the Hull Clad and a lot of +1/+1 Simic Support Cards. I use them as my commanders and I’ve one-shot players by drawing tons of cards and then making Toothy unblockable. The deck is good, it just needs to be built around the draw mechanic and the fact that when Toothy leaves the field you get so much advantage hardly ever makes his death a loss. Again guys, it’s an awesome video and you’ve given me some cool ideas with the other Commanders. It’d be cool to see you guys try and do a challenge with building a deck based around your least favourite or worst Commander 😊 Stay cool guys!

I think that you underrate the Kenrith duo. I just pulled them and made a Kenrith commander deck, and it performed very well. Turn 6 Will protects himself using the plus, and then turn 7 use the discount to play Rowan and a 5 mana instant or sorcery. . Plus, using Will's ultimate in a spell heavy deck ends the game in 1-2 turns. While the duo does cost a lot, Will's -2 does the same thing Thrasios is known for, card draw and mana ramp. Even though Rowan isn't a surprise (as she's in the command zone), often that's better than not. Having the threat of a next turn Rowan is often enough to stop attacks. And her plus has a lot of good combos, like with Time of Ice. Tap down some creatures, play Rowan's plus, and then bounce a players creatures. While they don't compare with Thrasios, the walkers have amazing synergy together that is definitely worth playing. And you can't play one in the command zone with the other in the 99 so...

Okaun and Zndrsplt are great commanders, I use them myself. Affordable mana cost for straight value. A list of win conditions between the two of them and the strong color combo. Commander damage, flinging giant Okauns, Zndrsplt comboing off for instant wins, winning with just 10 flips, and/or double battle phases or Helm of the Host for extra value These two are just insane together or alone on the field. It's a shame the other partners in Battlebond don't compare to the options and power these two provide, but at least we have a very interesting R/B commander to choose.

Gorm and Vitrus seem like an interesting combination for a secret Infect commander deck. Gorm takes on the blockers so the infecters gets through. Vitrus is just a nice secondary threat on top of that.

My partners for my favorite deck I have are Akiri and Ishai and I list Akiri first because Ishai is just there to give me blue. The game plan is very, very simple. Step 1: Play many artifacts. Step 2: Play Akiri also. Step 3: Pile equipment onto Akriri. Step 4: FIGHT.

Sidar Kondo paired with Tana the Bloodsower actually make a pretty good saproling/token deck. Sidar makes everything with power 2 pretty much unblockable, Tana is 2/2. Make saprolings, that can't be blocked, make more, sack to Mycoloth, make more saprolings, it can go on and on.

with korvath and sylvia you pick knights and play dragons as finishers. you don't need to play just one creature type in tribal, and knights have trouble ending games. Though it might be a real test to go mono red knights with korvath. giving flying and haste could be a good way to end games.

The chance for exactly 1 card is 0.25, not 0.5, because if you get at least 1 you have a 0.5 chance to get only 1 and a 0.5 chance to get more than 1 so you have to halve the whole thing.

Ben Williams - The problem with doing it that way is that you're double counting. .5x1 implies that half the time you get exactly one, but actually half of these cases should be counted in the "two cards drawn category. By putting them in the "one card drawn" category, you're double-counting. Two ways to do this. 50% of the time you get a card, 25% you get an *additional* card, 12.5% you get another addition card -> .5x1 + .25x1 +.125x1... = 1 OR 50% you get zero, 25% you get exactly one, 12.5% you get exactly two... -> .25x1 + .125x2 +... = 1

Got a Frenetic efreet and called it a great card. Looks at stitch in time and says, "eh," to a 3 cmc take an extra turn. At that point, I don't think it matters if it only has a 50% chance if working, because it is in Izzet. So just dual cast it, get it back in hand, flash back it. It is good in non-choas decks, because the chance of value compared to the price is so high.

As far as statistics for Zndrsplt (in isolation) go, you cannot have a less than 50% chance to draw a card for the coin flip since the initial instance of flipping a coin has exactly 50% chance to not draw a card. You are then left with a 50% chance that you will draw AT LEAST one card, and each other scenario of how many cards you draw is a piece of that 50% of the pie.

Kraum and Ravos make a pretty sweet aristocrats deck. Recursion and card draw. Being able to bring back your sac outlets and aristocrats is awesome

Feel like Reyhan and Ishai can be broken. It's basically abusing a modular-type ability with Reyhan and Ishai in commander...so many +1/+1 counters in 4-5 player games.

Matt Lynn I ran ishai reyhan as a "counters matter" deck it was super durdley but fun. The plan was to hardened scales ect and make ishai huge then get the reyhan down to preserve those counters. Other than my yidris deck this is the one I have killed the most people with commander damage. I tinkered that deck so hard it's now ramos the planeswalker engine lol

Matt Lynn I see him as a hardened scales backup. If your deck is synergized around counters I think he's great! And if you dont have one in the 99 pick up a whispersilk cloak you can steal games with ishai that way :-)

drfunk burger I, too, had a counters matter deck set up vs Zur deck. Solemnity came out early. I ended up running/tuning it with Freyalise and Aura Shards because the Zur deck ran other lockdown stuff like Humility shenanigans.

Matt Lynn omg solemnity is maybe my favorite card printed in as long as I can remember. Its soooooo cool but against that deck that makes me feel sad for you. XD I could also totally see throwing a helm of the host into the 99 to throw on reyhan. Idk I turned mine into superfriends and I love it!

Reyhan and Ravos with cards like Elenda, Hooded Hydra, and Hangarback Walker would be sweet, and actually an example of partners with synergy rather than just opening up colors.

I've got a Tana and Tarl deck in which the goal is to create as many saprolings as possible and to win with Overwhelming Stampede, Cather`s Crusade or commander damage you can get 18 damage with Tana on turn 5 with signet, bruse, tana, and Might of Oaks

Tana is really only there for the colours. You rarely wanna be playing her unless you wanna use her to pod into Kikki-Jikki.

Yeah in cEDH blood pod/meta pod, tana is mostly there for the color identity.

Actually Rowan and war tax don't combo, the rulings say " If a creature affected by Rowan’s first ability can’t attack for any reason (such as being tapped or having come under that player’s control that turn), then it doesn’t attack. If there’s a cost associated with having it attack, the player isn’t forced to pay that cost, so it doesn’t have to attack in that case either."

You can also set off the regna-krav combo using soul sisters, it is much easier that way compared to sacrificing creatures because regna entering the battlefield gains life and sets off the combo

I have a ravos x reyhan deck that is focused on +1/+1 counters and has a reanimate subtheme, it’s pretty successful due to just abzan board clears and power plays. A lot of the time I win using a flying doublestriking board using odric, though that’s of course achievable in any white-inclusive deck

Considering we got one of my favorite voltron commanders this past commander set with Nazahn, revered bladesmith, i have to say akiri, line slinger is also a damn good commander for a voltron strategy... Shes not resilient, but could potentially end games very quickly if built correctly... She is definitely a tier 1 in my book... A 2 drop commander (in the best colors to give double strike btw) that gets +1 attack for each artifact? You connect a sword and shes a 3/5... She could easily become a massive threat, and with a voltron stratagy she can be damn good

Did the math, and it turns out that if you have pir, toothy, and the thumb out, on an average turn you draw 6, and Toothy goes to 192/192. And then toothy gets pathed. At least, according to the math :)

Bruse Tarl and tana are excellent together, there’s a flexibility of being able to both go wide and tall and alternate between those stratigies if necessary
