@@Geo35z This is _exactly_ right. Exposure is the only way to build immunity, albeit a slow process. That doesn't mean that cross contamination should always be allowed, by no means. But, accidentally cross contaminating is not as big a deal as everyone wants to believe. If you cross contaminate, and wind up being exposed to salmonella, that means what you purchased was infected with the virus in the first place. Your meat should not contain these bacteria, but it's safe and best practice to avoid the risk altogether by constantly keeping your workstation in check.

What makes it a patty melt is the onions being grilled or sauteed, the bread has to be rye or marble rye, and the cheese has to be swiss.

I love Patty Melts, when I lived in California as a kid in the late 60's, there was a dinner down the street from where I worked. They used to make them but they called them "Beefeaters". They looked just like yours, but I think they used Rye bread. I still love them to this day and I'm 66 years old. I may just make my own later in the week.
