Thank you for this video. Could you please clarify your comments on the subsonic filter? Do you recommend using it and did you find it to have any impact on the overall sound performance? I've read that using it can degrade the sound a bit.

Yes, you may be able to hear slight changes in the sound on some recordings. But I think this is a lesser evil compared to the possible degradation of sound from an increase in the woofer movement. So I find this feature useful. :)

Really glad I saw this, because I had been looking to get a good phono section , and was unaware of this product. I really liked putting an on off button on the front, acknowledging the modern need to turn things off once in a while, instead of the power off switch on the back. It is unreasonable to fault this phono stage for not having provisions for a balanced input. Balanced inputs are not needed because of the characteristics of the signal, and the typical length of run from the turntable to the phono stage. If one runs the preferred continuous wire from where it connects to the cartridge, the signal has no difficulty traveling through the typical RCA ended connectors. That the good reviewer has transformers in the signal path wired differently seems to be the real complaint, because the product would cost more to add a connection few people use and is not technically valid as needed in this application. And a higher price reduces demand, so what really was the choice, given the need to excel in a very competitive market.

It's a jack of all trades and master of none. For MC you really need fully balanced on both input and output.

60+ years of HiFi has gotten on perfectly without any need for fully balanced cables. Maybe you shouldn’t play your turntable next to a radio station.

I heard the Hegel V10, and didn't think it was on par with the rest of the Hegel products - and I really am a big Hegel fan. I would spend a little more and go to the PS Audio Stellar Phono, or even the Gold Note PH-10, both much better sounding and with way more features and configuration possibilities, for not too much more money. And, for much more dough, you can go to the Gold Note PH-1000 or the Nagra Phono, both an order of magnitude better than the V10. Happy listening!

@@MrPruks thanks! Right now I got the mani, but got a chance for a second hand V10 for 1000 USD. I think I can go that far right now; a second hand ph10 it's around 1700 so in that case I will have to wait a while yo upgrade. Do you think for that price the V10 could be worth it? or it's better to wait for something like the ph10?

@@funcionyforma I think that the Hegel is well beyond the Mani... And you can upgrade later. My answer to this video was because it says it is the world's best phono stage - and nothing could be further from the truth.
