I have an SG special with mini humbuckers that i love. Usually i prefer humbuckers but those ones on my sg have something special. When you put too much gain it sort of becomes compressed. They sound very clear with perfect balance of bass and mids. They also sound great with metal tones. I usually change at least one pickup almost every time i buy a guitar but never needed to change those. Since this video is 2 years old it would be great to see you talk about pickups on a video. Every guitar channel is usually about amps, pedals and guitars.

I'm with you 100%. About a year ago I swapped out the pickups in my Schecter Ultra III for 3 Lollar Firebirds and was just blown away by them. Totally agree with them being the perfect balance between single coils and humbuckers. I also have them coil tapped and can select any combination of the 3 pickups, full HB or tapped. The sheer number of in-between Strat type clean sounds I can get is endless. It is the most versatile guitar I own. There are other great pickups but definitely, these are very special...

Agree completely. Lollar for life. I got a Nash S63 Strat with Lollar Dirty Blondes in it a a year or so ago. It turned everything upside down for me. I ended up putting Lollar pickups in my two Teles as well, and I also put Emerson wiring kits in all of them, including the Nash. My tone is just goosebumps inducing now through my Benson or Milkman. Crushing it.

Naaaah... That good??! Dang, I'm over buying pedals anyway....for all the pedals I bought, you can't use most of them cos they stack up to much impedance. So I have to choose a few pedals...and then leave out the other 15 or so I bought in this last 18 months. Anyway...the point is...I might start buying Lollars pickups instead of pedals. Boutique pickups instead of boutique pedals. I'm going to start with a minihumbucker for the bridge of my SG Special. Idk ifit will be better to do the full set, or try to balance a minihum in the bridge with the P90 in the neck. It sounds like a lean, mean rock machine to me...but things often turn out differently than your theory says it should ! So...I'll start with the bridge, I think..

I'm completely agree with you. I had a Gibson Firebird and I changed stock mini-humbuckers pickups for Lollar pickups... It was amazing! Congrats, your Fano is really gorgeous! Regarding TMG, it was definetely a huge improvement! Did you find easy to reeplace P90 for mini-hum? Just a mounting ring? By the way, mini-hum and firebird style pickups seem not to be exactly the same. Lollar website offers sample of both. Thanks!

I so agree. I have Lollar Firebird in the neck position of my Novo Serus S (another D. Fano made guitar). It was basically an experiment because I wanted a versatile S-style guitar and I kind of thought I would miss the "sparkly strat neck sound" and install a strat pickup in the neck position later. But this pickup is as sparkly as it gets while also being round and mellow. Hard to explain until you actually play it. The bottom line: the Lollar Firebird is staying in the neck position along with the Royal-T in the middle and Imperial Low Wind in the bridge. A killer, versatile and also surprisingly balanced combination. Lollars just can't be beat! I also appreciate the Bahamas riff (a fellow fan here!)

That's definetely my dream guitar sound right there, also looks amazing in my opinion. Just one question regarding the bridge, is yours one with the narrower string spacing to work correctly with the humbucker? (gibson usually uses a narrower string spacing, that's my thought here). What type of bridge is that, just a shortened tele bridge, with grooves for the strings from the bigsby of course? Thanks!

I have a homemade tele with lollar I think the standard tele pups, and honestly it’s the best sounding tele I have ever played. I put imperial low winds in an epiphone Les Paul though and there was no difference. But then regular imperials and oh my... I saw the mini humbucker in an email yesterday and today your video, and it’s clear I have to have them based on your video!

i have alot of experience with mini hums, being an avid LP deluxe collector. in order to avoid typing paragraphs of 20 years of experiences playing minihums from all eras and manufacturers - let me wean this down to 3 tips.... 1) if you find some old Gibson ones with the "Gibson" logo embossed on the covers, don't look at the price, just BUY THEM! 2) have Lollar make you a set of unpotted minihums....just, trust me. (see tip #1...the old gibby embossed ones were unpotted) 3) lastly, the brand new Dimarzio PG13 mini hums sound beautiful. ....if you can't tell, the mini hum is my fave pup as well.

Gibson Classic 57s for humbuckers. Virgil Arlo for strats or teles. Nothing comes close in my opinion. For what it’s worth I installed these firebird pickups in my Gibson 2014 melody maker. They are nice, but I miss my classic 57s in my LP when I play on it.

Nice guitars you got there. Gibson likes to not put in vintage spec firebird pickups in the firebirds. I don't know why. I hope they have changed that. I dropped in Mr. Fabulous Firebird pickups into my '07 Firebird VII and now the guitar has a nice balance and clarity to it. When I kick on my low octave fuzz effects it is glorious. The freeway switch also installed is nice because I can blend the middle pickup and have all three pickups on. I have a set of RC pickups in my Reverend Warhawk g1 that also sound amazing. I am not sure if he makes pickups anymore. I would not recommend buying Gibson FB pickups that came out of a newer Firebird.

Vintage Gibson Firebird pickups, compared to the contemporary ones, differ quite a bit. I have a 2014 one that came as stock in the neck position that reads 15.9 k. It's dark and muddy with little appeal and will soon be swapped out. Vintage Firebird pickups are much brighter and have much lower windings than Gibson's newer formula.

I'm curious, the guitar tone yo have sounds mono, but the reverb sounds stereo. Are you recording your amp with a stereo pair of microphones? Are you using a plug in reverb after recording your amp? Are you using a modeler and everything is "in the box"? Because it sounds GREAT!

You guys must be drunk! There's nothing sexier than a pair of shiney minihumbuckers, especially Firebird style, in their neat little black or cream pickup rings. To be perfectly honest, I've been looking into minihumbuckers because I just love the look so much! But you're absolutely right: tone is king. I need to be careful I don't ruin my brand new Gibson here....with a string of boutique pickups that might not sound as good as the factory p90's... You can get lost down rabbit holes like that. When you order a set of Lollars (or just one), does Jason or somebody talk to you to see what sounds you are hoping for? Or do you just have to make sure you research thoroughly - and then order off a menu list?

amazing presentation! but I'm confused (and by the comments, it looks like others are as well..), are these mini-humbuckers (www.lollarguitars.com/lollar-humbucker-pickups/mini-humbucker) or firebirds (www.lollarguitars.com/lollar-humbucker-pickups/firebird) ? they look like firebirds, but you say "firebird style mini humbuckers", so I guess they are mini-humbuckers, but only look visually like firebirds? people are relating to your pickups as both firebirds and mini-humbuckers interchangably, but you don't seem to comment or correct them, even when people are praising firebirds as being the ones you are playing? hm.. well.. :) whatever the pickups, they do sound very wonderful! and that is an amazing guitar! and the bahama interpretation was great! (and the video! beautiful saturation, like an old italian 16mm movie. how did you achieve this effect?)
