Sacramento A's of Las Vegas...was funny. On the business-side, pitchers rarely receive the same amount of endorsements or attention as batters in Japan, since starting pitchers only appear once a week. Ohtani is a very rare case as he was a 2-way player, famous nationwide since high school, and was earning nearly JPY5bn in endorsements, advertisements, and TV appearances when he was 23 year old before moving to the Angels. Sasaki will be earning league minimum for the first 3 seasons, but I don't know how much he will cost in the last 3 years until free agency. If I remember correctly, Ohtani was receiving US$ 20 to 30mn from the Angels (in addition to US$ 60mn in endorsements) in the final year with the Angels. Sasaki is one of the few Japanese pitchers who is able to pitch above 160km/h. He is a generational talent for sure. And his agent is the same as Kohdai Senga (Mets), Yoshinobu Yamamoto (Dodgers), Seiya Suzuki (Cubs), and Yu Darvish (Rangers, Dodgers, Cubs, and Padres). Which happens to be 5 out of the 7 teams he reportedly invited to meetings. Put differently, Sasaki is coming over early because he wants to use first few seasons to adjust to American baseball, lifestyle, culture, cuisine, etc. And he is looking for a stable team that can help his development. Realistically, there are only handful of teams that can offer what Sasaki is looking for.

Sure. And again, I'm not saying Sasaki will have anywhere near the commercial effect that Ohtani has had. But a 23-year-old flamethrower who hasn't hit his prime coming over to MLB is definitely going to catch eyes. Who knows? I could see Sasaki having a Hideki Matsui-like effect where the market he goes to falls in love with him. New York basically knows Matsui as 'Godzilla', and he made a lot of money off of it. And yes, Ohtani made $30 million in his last year with the Angels to avoid arbitration (honestly he should have been paid more 🤣). And I couldn't help the A's comment lol. It was too good not to put in 👍

Sasaki should wait to get paid. No rush to come for peanuts. Think Soto!!!

With the way Cleveland develops pitchers, maaaaybe he should consider them (or they should consider spending a little money)
