I think the big thing that makes people not respect lurkers is that they deal damage much slower. If a tank sees my army its immediately hitting me and im immediately turning away. If a lurker sees my army its gonna take a second and then damage a couple of units and then another second and will damage a few more. Its just deals damage much differently than regular units. Its more like a slow storm that isnt as visible so average and low level players have a hard time judging how much damage their army suffered until its waaayyy to late

I actually still to this day (current GM) think that the most overpowered things in the game when playing as Zerg, are (minor issue) battery/overcharge in the early game that makes early harass super difficult to do any damage... build timing and range for Ghost and range for Thor - both vs important or massive units like Ultra / Brood. But Serral and Raynor win a lot, so I'm out of luck 😂 If you look at how they defeat something like a mixed ghost army it will be with a trick - like hidden infestor that gets a neural emp, for example - which might work great or one mistake and it's over. It seems to always be a struggle. But they win, so it's considered acceptable. Keep in mind I do win these sometimes, but it always seems like a massive struggle and I MUST outplay the enemy significantly, when they have the 'right' composition AND I have the right comp.

While this was diamond I will say as a Gold Protoss at the lower leagues there's units that aren't necessarily imbalanced but do require more skill to beat than they do to use. Battle Cruisers and Widow mines along with carriers I think are the ultimate examples of this but Lurkers are as well. People at lower leagues are much less likely to have the ability to transition mid-game or multitask well enough to attack from different directions. In contrast battlecruisers as protoss requires some micro and in slower less optimal games doomstacks of bc or carriers are doable. Once again not nessecarily imba but jumping into a base with BCs is a lot easier than having to manage a bunch of zerg spellcasters to shut them down

So I know Harstem doesn't live in the US and his sentence does make sense, but from an American's perspective this sentence sounded really funny. "It's the same in football. If you out dribble all of your opponents but every time you get in front of the goal you pick up the ball with both of your hands and kick it full force into the head of the referee." So in my mind we had an American 'handegg' player trying to dribble an oval brown ball like a basketball player on a soccer (football) field. The soccer field came in at "pick up the ball with both hands" at which point it was really obvious he was clearly talking about soccer (football) the whole time. The amalgamation of gear and gameplay going on in my head made me laugh.

How else do you suggest doing a run-by against a Z? Right click on the spore? And he did shift-queue into the hatch, otherwise the zealots would agro on the spines first. Killing hatches against Z is how you win the mid to late game. Not sure what you're doing instead, but the fact that you think he incorrectly managed the situation makes it pretty damn clear you haven't touched the game.
@WhitePointerGaming

@@2639theboss He really should have been trying to target the drones. Zergs can rebuild hatches pretty quickly and it's 350 minerals. It's a lot longer and a lot more expensive to replenish drones, not to mention that they are using their larvae for drones at a point in the game when they should be building army. I would also like to point out he lost a total of 30 zealots - 3000 minerals, to take out 2 hatches and a couple of spines, barely 1000 minerals worth of stuff.
@2639theboss

@@WhitePointerGamingNot at that stage of the game when your opponent has 6 hatches and either a mineral bank or trouble spending. By killing hatches, your cutting off their income by about as much as you would killing drones, albeit temporarily, but youre destroying their production. Thats 1/3 of the Zs production gone. And it doesnt matter if you lose 10k minerals destroying hatches if youre up two bases. Its no different than bane busting a Ts fourth base if youre on five hatch. Disingenuous as hell to claim he lost 3k to 1k when theres literally a trade counter on screen btw. It was a positive trade, other things besides hatches were killed.
@asdfqwerty14587
@asdfqwerty14587 Жыл бұрын
@@WhitePointerGaming Killing a hatchery does a lot more damage than just the mineral cost of the hatchery, because it also prevents the opponent from mining that base until they build a new hatchery - replacing drones can be done almost instantly, replacing a hatchery takes longer, so it costs them all of the resources they would have mined in addition to the cost of the hatchery.
@WhitePointerGaming

I think this protoss has dismissed carriers and air units as a legitimate option because they hate being accused of playing an easy race and people like hating on carriers. They even write it in the report, that they disagree that protoss is easy. So over time, Carriers were devalued because they sont count it as a real, skilled win when they win with air. Thus no carriers..

I'm so confused how lurkers keep coming up in iodis when you're clearly bad for throwing zealot stalker archon at lurkers. Moving out is the worst mistake you can make because then zerg can threaten a key position and force you into making a really bad move to try and save it and it's exactly what happened. This is how I get the W vs toss that do the same vs me and what I avoid when I play toss.

I have to admit that it is very very sad to whitness such a good game being lost like that. Truth is that 1 fight with a max army vs another almost full army resulting in a 0% vs 90% ... its just GG. SC2 isnt only about macro and map control, It is also about fights and how to respond properly vs the agression. GG tho, you should have won, if you transitioned into something else , or had used your templars storms.

Well by definition you can always take decisions to win the game so is it even possible Cap will ever say it's imbalanced by his definition. In my mind having an easy to control unit combo that pushes enemy into situation where it is extremely easy to make mistakes that can turn the game around 180 degrees is pretty op. Point is that some unit combos require a counter which requires asimetric skills level to execute correctly. Of course in this case he had time to do air switch, but it's not always the case. Only Zerg can suddenly tech switch like it is no big deal.

The problem is, StarCraft II is balanced for pro gamers, not for lower level players. And if you say something like that, I feel like Terran kind of just suck in Bronze (being the only race that can't a-move), and too good in Diamond (where people can't beat turtle).
@kak_eto_slushat

StarCraft 2 is RTS, where S is for Strategy. That means strategic thinking is still the most important part of the game. I agree making lurkers and a-moving them doesnt`t require much IQ, but throwing whole your army into opponent`s lurkers requires even less. Krill was good at mechanics but sucked at game understanding&thinking, not skill level (which happens to the best though)
@benjaminchen8857
@benjaminchen8857 Жыл бұрын
You think lurkers are easy to control, but I would say that the mechanical execution of lurkers is easy, but I would argue that the strategical placement of lurkers is the most difficult part. Like tanks, it's hard to move position once set up. But it's not as good as tanks in small numbers. And having an expensive siege unit that you need to babysit complicates movement, attacks, and retreats. While I agree it's easy to control (not a spellcaster), I don't think it's strategically easy to use.

Terran is very strong in Bronze. Players at that level just cannot figure out how to overcome Planetary Fortresses. Battlecruisers and Thors A-move just fine. Terran doesn't become hard until way further up the ladder. @@jingxuanwang8674

This Protoss absolutely did not need air to win. It takes zero special skills to build Immortals out of the Robo he had for ages and research Charge from the Archives he had for ages. Its much harder trying to do what he was - fight Hydras with a Stalker addiction - than just play normally, so I'm not sure why you're trying to make it sound like it takes more skill to just play normal lol.

Ronin, do not flame your opponent if you are flamed. Instead, lean into it. instead of "You didn't deserve this game" "&#^@ ALLINER", it should be "You didn't deserve this game" "And yet I won". Stay calm, observe your opponent's mistakes when you win out of a fluke, see what your opponent should have done instead, then see how you could have countered that. You can improve whether by winning or losing, always. Krill? I mean mate you lost to a trash opening with trash execution, and you blame it on the one unit the enemy built, that you could have circumvented a ton of different ways? Even if he just spammed zerglings he would have won, you have no concept of counters. A continuous ling flood out of 8-16 hatch and a nidus worm popping out at various locations around your bases would have been sustainable economically and absolutely broken you, because for some reason you absolutely refuse to build air units, you refuse to use spellcasters beyond Blink and oracle's "turn it on and forget" attack. Holy hell you built so many templars and not one storm. Yes protoss is not just A-move, but you refuse to play it with anything but A-move. So why is that argument even there? Imagine a chef going up to gordon ramsey after making a shit omelet, gordon goes like "omelets are the simplest freaking thing to cook you donut" and the chef goes "actually they're really really intricate pieces of art" - yeah then why is yours shit? Makes no sense.
