Don’t get me wrong, he does more defensive work than they are giving him credit for, and when he does defend, he is extremely efficient, but it’s certainly not an area of his game that he thrives at. What I will say is, if they’re going talk about Grealish’s defensive work being a weakness of his game, then they should say the same about James Rodriguez who does the same amount of defensive work as Grealish.

I think the statement of Grealish not defending “at all” is very harsh. Of course he is much more of an attacking player but if you watch him play he is tracking back and putting in tackles in the defensive third.

You can absolutely tell he hasn't seen much of him at all. If anything we (villa fans) keep saying he should defend less. He's finally started to take that to heart the last few games though because he had to/felt like he had to also do the job of the sitting mid, starting the moves from the deep. Another point to add for the 5 sub rule: along with the bigger teams having more competition to play in, they also are more likely to have players selected for their national teams. On the subs rule, idk why they don't just meet in the middle and have 4, going forward. Pep said about this a few years ago and I actually agreed with it. Not straight away but shortly after. It allows more flexibility to make tactical decisions for everyone, more home grown talent potentially start games and come on like the boys said and every single year the game is becoming more of a 'squad' game even for those outside of Europe. Maybe in other leagues not so much but the PL is becoming such an even playing field, intense and tightly contested. The only real downside I can think of is it allows the big sides more rotation room but on the other side of it small sides also have fresher players to come on if they're getting spanked. On the PL point again, this just adds to the entertainment for me.

At first glance I could see why some people would think that 5 subs would just be an advantage for the 'big 6' but the reality is that the top 7 play more games than the rest of the clubs so run a much higher risk of injuries (due to CL, Uefa cup, potentially longer FA cup runs). Well there are three things to remember. It would be the hardest league Ronaldo has played in for over a decade. It would be the least dominant team (via league) he's played in since pretty much ever. And Pogba would have to go for this. This means he would have no truly elite creator. Bruno is a very good creator and can become elite, but I wouldn't say he's an Eriksen, Ozil, KDB, Fabregas just yet. But I think he would almost for sure finish top five.

And lets not forget he has always had killer deliveries on both long range free kicks, where he's always whipped it in well for someone to header it, as well as corners as well. He's an absolute specialist in set pieces, up there with KDB as best in the league, but he also contributes defensively and in progressing attacks.
