James.. I'm glad to see you post this one up.. this is the same process I go thru every time I think I want new gear.. I test several times and always include my gear.. for me this year it will also be the 919 Tours.. main reason is the consistency in distances that won me over with them. I don't need more distance.. I need control and knowing what my distances are is key to my game.. Cheers..!
@johnerrington40725 жыл бұрын
I agree, distance isn’t the most important criteria for irons. I have just bought a new set of Cleveland 588 cb irons. They are half a club shorter than my previous irons but feel superb, especially around the green. For this one reason they give me confidence and my handicap ( the true test) has come down from 10 to 8.

Great video James! One thing you might want to consider mentioning when doing these head-to-heads is the standard deviation in measurements. You've already got them on hand, and especially with irons they help show consistency. Averages only say so much themselves

Thanks James - a lot of effort and a well-thought out approach (mixing the clubs you hit up so they got equal warm-up/fatigue swings etc). I just tested the Mizuno JPX 919 forged and Tour the other day. Interestingly I found they both had slightly low spin rates for me (I was hitting a 7 iron in both), with the Forged lower than the Tour. Anyway, long story short the shop let me take out the 7 iron in the one I preferred (the Tour) so I can see how it goes on course and it has been brilliant. Consistent and controllable distance, pretty easy to shape. Definitely buying a set of these this week.

Absolutely love the fact that the Mizuno won. Personally I chose the MP18SC for the exact reason that it is chrome and absolutely beautiful and in terms of ease of hitting its about the same as the 919 pro. Love them and the feel for me is better than anything else I've tried. The new forging process at Mizuno has just stepped up feel and sound from previous versions and in my opinion pushed them further ahead of anything else on the market. Btw I also didn't like the 760's and there it's no way I'm paying for the PXG's.

Excellent review ... you’re a beast to hit that many shots. I love the consistency of my Mizuno irons and the finish. Hate the glare when looking down at the chrome on a bright sunny day

I would be interested in a "Peak Height" average along with a "Spin" average. A club doesn't have to have a massive spin, for me, if I can get the height high enough to a good decent angle. Also, I still want those Mizuno irons! So good looking!

brilliant video... I have rarely seen someone take the time to do this, particularly with players irons... currently play the mizuno mp58s and when I have the cash, this video confirms my thoughts about the 919.... can't wait to hit them but I'm sure that they are pure because, well, they're mizuno
@thebigeasy86095 жыл бұрын
Well done James. So appreciate the effort you put in this video for us. Love it that the Mizuno was your choice. I'm a little biased towards Mizuno. Not that I would know anything about the new stuff since I still use the 20+ year old Mizuno Pro's. Thanks again. PS would have liked to see the Srixon Z 785's too. Sweet looking clubs
@dondasher585 жыл бұрын
Fill the slots with color on the P760. Black, White or whatever....that would be a nice customized option. For me? Naw....I like the way it looks. I play Mizuno JPX but am looking to change since my game/feel has changed for the better and now I know more of what I really want to feel. I would like to feel more headweight in my swing.
@zacharymilos3925 жыл бұрын
I hit apex pro vs 760 and didn't find them massively smaller. My wife was with me and she agrees. I wonder James if the chrome finish makes them appear just a tad smaller? The feel I agree, is incredible.

Which one had the thinnest top line?
@justinstephenson93605 жыл бұрын
Very good review but it is amazing how much the look of the club head determines what we choose. So for me the 919 Forged is the straightest hitting iron I have ever hit, it feels wonderful, it goes the right distance but... the blade length just looks a tad too long for me - and it might just be an optical illusion. I have a same love/hate view of the Rogue (not a player iron I know) - amazingly easy to hit, beautiful high ball flight, very long but... I just cannot stand the thickness of the top line

Haha, you’re end results would be mine as well. I went and tried the Apex pros because they look great but they didn’t persuade me away from my iblades at all, BUT when I get a new set down the road they will most likely be the jpx 919s. Nothing beats that Mizuno feel and I love the looks of them even more then the apex pros and about the same as my iblades. Good job!
@pauldummett86755 жыл бұрын
It was a no brainer looking at the dispersion if you want to hit it further pick your 5 iron out the bag?? I've been looking at 2nd hand clubs/unused left in the pros shop for the season ahead can you do something on last years/2 year old models. Thinking of game improvers..I play off 12 but lacked consistency until 2 weeks ago when I convinced myself I was changing clubs lol
@storieswithaly12475 жыл бұрын
Very timely as I am about to try out several clubs this coming week (apex pro, p760, srixon z785, jpx 919 forged, ping i500, ap2/3, cobra forged tec, and one of the wilsons. As a comparison against my current srixons z565) as something to grow into as my game improves now. Also from the point of view of looks, feel, but especially consistency (minimal dispersion front and back and side to side). Already ruled out the cf19 apex forged, p790. It seems to me that as you suggested I think in one of your other videos that the clubs don’t change that drastically year on year but perhaps every three or four years. Hence the z585 did not make enough sense to move to especially taking fitting costs (including shafts) into account- much like your thought to stick with your Mizuno’s. I am looking for something that gives me at least the feel and confidence of my srixons but reliability for the next four years or so in my mid 60s and as my game improves, especially the short irons but would add equally best mix/fit to the wedges that I have (RTX 3) or would change to (being assessed also - waiting for the new volley forged wedge coming out in March).

i'm looking at mizuno irons to replace my taylormade rsi set. when i can get 220yrds 1.50 smash using flightscope with my 7 iron. I need to reign in the dispersion (all over the shop) and need the higher spin rates for stopping on the greens. Great review sir, truly picking the best irons for actual play and not distance.

Jimtoledo that’s the best part of this review isn’t it? It’s just so nice to see one person try them all and give an honest opinion. An example: This review talked me out of the P760s. I was getting good numbers with them in tests but i really felt like they were “too soft”. They felt weird to me. I kept thinking, “it’s not possible for a club to be too soft....and yet they were for me!” Here comes James today confirming my feeling.

@@richardsdiaz1 I like James Robinsons enthusiasm for the game. Hey James, great content as always mate! I wouldn’t consider myself an equipment junkie but I do love this time of year when all the new gear comes out. I play off of a 6 and currently play the Srixon Z545 iron. I do enjoy them but being a cavity back iron, I do get inconsistent distances from time to time and flyers. I believe that a more traditional set of players irons will help narrow my dispersion a bit and have settled on either the Titleist AP2 or Mizuno JPX 919 tour. I’m not sure I could go wrong with either. Any suggestions?

I have been looking at what irons might be better for me as I improve my game and as I look to replace my srixon z565s. I am left handed so while hard to find I have managed in one form or another, including through fittings, ranges, in store etc to try several brands and models. After much ado - going through Tm, Callaway (including the apex), srixons, pings, Mizuno’s, Wilson’s, (not PSG- another planet in pricing!, nor honma) and more. In a nutshell am down to two that I am considering- p760 which gave me the least dispersion left to right and front to back and the less offset suited me better (only use 6-aw). Apex was hot but all over the place and strangely I did not like the looks so much and found it more bulky than my srixons even and data (aside from length) did not warrant looking at it more. Finally prices of p760 coming down- does that mean new ones coming out soon? Dilemma - go with p760 or wait till end year when more might be out to consider like new 720 ap2.
@robertcourt85935 жыл бұрын
Of the club's fearured, on looks alone I'd go for the apex pro's every time. Given a lot of lessons and free reign I'd choose either the titleist cb or the ping i210's. A lot of these look a bit too flashy for me.
@jaybeuoy72405 жыл бұрын
James, I'm a mid-handicapper and play a set of the Callaway ApexPro from 2015 or 16. Why does the blade length matter to you out of curiosity? You seem to hit them great. My mishits don't seem related to the blade length, although I might start blaming that.
