Excellent video - like the substitution suggestions (especially the Earl Grey tea cube for the Word Upper) to allow for the creation of personal variations. Nonetheless, the coffee originals sound like winners. The specialized barware from the sponsor certainly up the game. Thanks for sharing these recipes and for an enjoyable 2024. Best wishes to you and yours for a Happy New Year. Cheers.

Great cocktail ideas as usual, Dan! Coffee ice cube is a clever technique: does freezing the cube impact the coffee's taste?

Thank you! I haven’t found that it impacts the taste when combined with other ingredients, but it does freeze unevenly, with a very intense section of the ice cube and a lesser intense section. If we were to be as technically sound as possible, to evenly melt the cubes, I would recommend laying the cube on its side so the more and less intense sections are evenly submerged (rather than on the top or bottom), but it’s designed to be a playful technique so I wouldn’t worry too much 😊 Hope you enjoy it, and this can be applied to many different cocktails and with any coffee, so be sure to play around with it! Happy New Year when it rolls around!

Great video as always Dan, keep up the fantastic work. Due to freezing diluting the flavour of the filter coffee - what coffee to water ratio would you recommend? Would you go higher than usual? or is it something that we want to be a bit more subtle in the drink...

Thank you so much! It’s down to personal preference really, but l personally use any filter brews that aren’t quite right whenever possible. I’d rather use the ‘almost dialled-in’ brews for this where subtleties or slight imbalances are masked by other flavours anyway, and drink my dialled-in brews as they are. In a commercial setting, you can use leftover batch brew too, which often goes to waste but really shouldn’t if we can repurpose it. Either way, hope you enjoy it!

I assume the coffee freezes unevenly? like the clear ice imperfections or nah

Yes indeed. Technically speaking, the coffee ice block should be laid on its side for the most even melt. Happy new year, my friend!
