Hi Tyler, Ivan here, developer of the game! Been watching your channel for many years already, and when I started making games last year together with my wife Eva, I couldn't even anticipate that we'll so soon appear on your channel! Apart from several free web games we made during these 2 years (puzzles included), Robot Detour was our first proper game on Steam. I'm so glad you and others are enjoying it! Hopefully you won't be pushed back by some experiments there are still left in the game haha. Also I'm personally feeling wery honoured to hear I did well with puzzle design! I wanted to make something not overly complicated, but still with a ton of aha-moments and cool mechanics. Also I am a fan of Witness-style explanation of rules, letting the player experiment and learn rles and nuances on their own. Glad you appreciate it too :) P.S. Don't know if "Detour/Robot Detour" joke in the beginning was intentional or not, but this game initially started with a small gamejam version, which indeed was called "DETOUR" :)

I really do appreciate that Tyler doesn't show what'll happen when you hit the spikes, and acknowledges that it's obvious. It's really nice.

Usually having it shown is useful, not because of *what* it does, but *how* it does - hitboxes, etc.

Lil easier to get away with since the game doesn't reset you to the start. Not much time lost to get a visual on the incorrect line.

This game is somewhat similar to a puzzle game called Filament, which is also really good. They both feature a robot attached to a tether that needs to reach a certain goal, but filament is much more about rule discovery and you can’t cross your line, among other things, so it’s actually quite different.
@F3XTКүн бұрын
he did play filament and didn't like it
@vaughnblakely7595Күн бұрын
Filament felt bad IMO. Felt like brute forcing was the fastest strategy which feels poo in puzzle games.
@mathmaniac3033Күн бұрын
Filament is definitely in the same style, but different execution. I personally enjoyed a large chunk of it, but it takes a *lot* of time to just digest everything you can do. Some points are definitely just brute forcing, but a good chunk of puzzles you can figure out the logic on certain angles of entry and exit that are required and stitch together a jigsaw-like solution using those parts.
@josiahsimmons9866Күн бұрын
This game looks super charming with puzzles that are really solid. They aren't *too* difficult, but they aren't baby easy either.

if I were to ever make a puzzle game I would definitely design each level around my solution, but I wouldn't try to make other solutions not possible, partly because they would be painful and annoying, but also because I think puzzles are more fun that way, most puzzles have multiple solutions. I'd also include an achievement for completing a level in a way I didn't notice
