The main difference between Rogue-like and Rogue-lite is how you gain offense and defense. In a Rogue-like, you only accumulate offense and defense during a single round. Once you game over, it's back to square-one. Nothing caries on to the next round. In a Rogue-lite, you are able to unlock permanent offense and defense upgrades, and use them in future rounds after a game over. This includes new upgrades that you don't start a round with, but have a chance of finding through the course of a round. It's definitely not a super clear set of terms coined by the video game community, but it's also not a big deal if you mess it up! Keep up the great vids, BMFVR!

I think the creators missed the point by a virtual mile. Of all the types of games we need hand tracking for, shooting isn't one of them. It's a genre where HOLDING A HANDGRIP WITH A TRIGGER is actually more immersive. Exploration, fitness, puzzle, in fact literally any other experience where you're not usually holding something would benefit from hand tracking. I hope the devs can track my hands slow clapping.

@chappelle232 жыл бұрын
That’s not likely going to happen. This is a nice little demo of the tech in a shooter, but the movement method alone is a deal breaker. Unless those VR Omni-directional treadmills become more affordable (they cost thousands now), you’re going to have a better experience playing shooters with controllers. Even then, you’ll probably want something in your hand with a trigger rather than doing finger guns… Could you imagine playing Pavlov, Onward, or Larcenauts like that? Hand tracking definitely works well for a lot of other games like PokerStarsVR, and it’s great to see the tech improving.
@pauldonohue75362 жыл бұрын
@@chappelle23 I'm fortunate to have used many slides pads and treadmills for work (game dev and freelance journalist "advisor") and treadmils will NEVER take off, for a variety of reasons. Hand tracking will get better and better, treadmils will get better, but the sheer size of them will always be an issue, a MAJOR issue into they will never take off. VR locomotion will change over time, thumbstick works *fine* but I'm certain it isn't so solution long term, I personally think we will see something that allows us to jog/run on the spot

That’s a great showcase for the improved hand tracking, but I don’t think it’s going to be replacing controllers anytime soon, if at all. The shooters would be fine for a single player game, but not for competitive play. I need to be to smooth turn and move while not getting wrapped up in my tether. Side not: Snap turning and teleporting is too disorienting, which is interesting because most games call those the “comfortable” settings.

It works really well. You end up feeling more like you're gliding around once you get it down. Since the nodes are equally spaced you can just hold it out to keep moving. I had the feeling of being spiderman making quick turns after a while.

@@DiamondDepthYT that's untrue. I have at least one game that incorporates that motion for movement. Imo it would be much more ideal and doable to just add additional hand gestures. For instance, hand in front, fist closed in the direction you want to move and fist open to stop. I just dislike teleportation in VR as the only option because it kills the immersion for me.
