Before the inevitable questions come up, here is why iRacing, Raceroom & Assetto Corsa weren't mentioned: 1) I refuse to legitimize iRacing's toxic monetization model. 2) Raceroom lacks too many necessary features by current gen standards to be considered a complete simulator. 3) While Assetto Corsa is an awesome open simulator with a ton of content, the physics engine lags behind ACC substantially. 4) We all know that Project CARS 3 is the most hardcore simulator of all time.

@@debozebever Its a great sim it really is, has tons to offer. However it is still based on DX9 (I believe) so it does feel a little dated, also no day/night cycle and dynamic weather with a few other things such as longer endurance races and driver swaps etc. They've recently updated the way the ranking works and also some elements of races such as penalties for false starts and a manual end lap once the race has finished. Still, i would always recommend it for anyone who's looking to enter sim racing for the first time on PC

Frankly it's just sort of laughable that you'd refuse to rate Raceroom on the grounds of it lacking too many modern features, then turn around and tout rFactor 2 - which hasn't even been able to properly handle yellow flags for years on end now - as a top sim.
@LithFox
@LithFox 3 жыл бұрын
That also was a big red flag. not gonna lie, like, yeah, i get that iRacing is outside of people's price range, but between rFactor 2 being more "modern" and the fact that he pointed out that you rent from iRacing (all games are rentals and any game with a centralized online service you can lose access to at anytime!) so.. idk. Just all seemed like BS. I like all the sims personally. But.. this is just some dick stroking on part, imo.

Not to mention including ACC even though ACC's server filters still don't exist and their online matchmaking is worse than Half Life Deathmatch from 1998. How can anyone say RaceRoom lacks modern features but call ACC one of the best sims of 2021? If you need to join a Discord server to race, the sim has crappy online features, period. Vanilla AC has better races than ACC.

For AMS2, try turning up the rear differential preload to around 300. I was getting so frustrated with the Porsche GT3 rear wanting to over rotate on corner entry and the AMG spinning out on corner exit. Increasing the rear differential preload and small tweaking in the power ramp made HUGE differences for me. I went from giving up on the game to really enjoying it. Hope this possibly helps and AWESOME video!

@tt350zJason
@tt350zJason 3 жыл бұрын
@@Kurosaka I'm by no means an expert but I'll tell u what I know. The preload is the biggie. When cornering it effects power goes to the rear wheels. In games like RF2 and ACC u turn it down to aid with keeping the rear from coming around in braking and acceleration. In AMS2 you turn it up to keep the rear from coming around or oversteering. When u turn it down in ACC and RF2 it controls how much power goes to the outside wheel. If the outside rear gets too much power, it lowers the power to the outside wheel and keeps the car from oversteering. In AMS2 u turn it up to do this. Playing with this has really helped.

So many issues here... I love how iRacing's monetization is considered toxic when rFactor 2's content is not only similarly expensive, but also useless for anyone who wants to race online regularly. I will happily pay for iRacing's content which I can hop on any time during the day and race against similarly skilled people than shell out similar money for rFactor 2 content which I'm stuck using against AI or hoping for some random server being up with the content I want to use. I do love the progress s397 has made with the game and I enjoy rF2 for what it is, but to act like one is great and the other is the root of all evil is rather ridiculous. Even Automobilista 2 costs a whopping $125 if you want all of its content. On top of that, iRacing is much more of a service akin to an MMO than it is to an average racing game. That is why there's a subscription fee; iRacing has a huge online system with official servers, rotations, etc across the world. Trying to compare this to something like rF2 in which they literally just a few weeks ago started having "official" races in a single series (after how many years?) is laughable. Maybe when even a single other sim can set up an online system that can compete with iRacing, then we can have a discussion about whether the monetization is "toxic" or not. Until then, it seems fairly obvious that there's a reason iRacing has been the gold standard for online racing for the past several years; regardless of what anyone thinks of the physics or graphics or whatever, that point seems fairly widely agreed upon, even amongst its detractors. The fact that Assetto Corsa is snubbed is also quite hilarious, considering it provides a platform for so much amazing content which is simply unavailable anywhere else. I've probably spent more time revisiting Assetto Corsa with its top notch mod content than I have with any other game over the last few months. It has been an absolute blast and is easily my go-to sim for leisure offline driving. I don't have much experience with Race Room, but it seems like people have qualms with it being excluded as well. Excluding Race Room for "lacking modern features" while loving all over rF2, which barely has official online play and is struggling to cobble together a usable user interface, is pretty mind blowing. The moral of this story? If you're going to title a video "The BEST Racing Simulator of 2021," you can't ignore half the field and expect people to be fine with it. If you want to instead say "My favorite racing simulator of 2021," then that would be much more reflective of the content.

While I appreciate the video I fail to see this never ending desire for content creators to compare and inform which is best. They are all good and each having something brilliant to offer. I have iRacing, AMS2, Raceroom, rFactor2, AC, ACC, and find on any given week for no particular reason I am focused on one or two. "How do they compare, and which is king" is something that can only be answered on an individual basis and how we choose to play (multiplayer, single, long/short races, tracks, hotlapping, etc.). For example, I have iRacing for the Nascar AI racing, I like ACC for GT4 and wet, AC/AMS2/Raceroom for something unique, love rFactor 2 for GTE..........if I'm wanting to run VR it's AMS2 or AC. There is no King.

It has got to be ACC. Real GT3 drivers have given it a lot of praise. Regarding RF2, since i decided to just ignore the shitty setup hacks and the insane esports lap times and instead practice with the GTE and LMP2 cars, using nice stable setups with more rear wing than I’d originally use, i have enjoyed it IMMENSELY. The DLC tracks are great, driving is fun again. My lap-times are not amazing, but i’m using driving techniques and inputs that, to me, mimic the ones used in real life to go faster: smooth trail braking, not overdriving, smooth lines, not sliding about. It’s not the fastest way to drive in RF2, but it does feel GREAT.

That's what I mean. What if Rfactor 2 is not realistic on some ranges when it is so enjoyable and close where it really matters? Saying that, I want them to make it as good as possible and those flaws to be out of the sim. I honestly wouldn't mind if all the great developers worked together at just one sim and each one focused on the content they want. I honestly think physics isn't the end all be all to many people, even if they think they are. Actually, only some parts of them are really more important to be honest. FFB is probably more important. Majority of sim racers, probably even serious ones, couldn't really tell if what they are driving is really realistic at a certain point. Rfactor 2 for me is probably a mix of FFB and good physics where it counts, although it disappoints me knowing the flaws. I think there's a lot of value on many other sims, but I just tend to gravitate to one at a time, even if Gt3 is better simulated on ACC I still prefer driving them on Rfactor2, at least for the time being. Hey Ermin, I'd love to see a video from you on RaceRoom! I recently got into that sim and it really suprised me, especially after the recent update. It added so many physics details, like: realistic turbo spooling, throttle maps and realistic diffuser stall physics. The tyre model is on a similar level as ACC on most cars if I understanded the forum post correctly. But the FFB is pretty filtered (to simulate what you'd actually feel through the wheel compared to the informative rFactor 2 approach) I'm also really interested in the physics of these sims and I compare them all the time, and that's what you do a lot in your videos as well, so I'm curious what you think about R3E! Some cars I'd recommend: 2020 DTM, Zakspeed Capri (Group 5), Audi R8 GT2 LMS, Porsche 991 GT3 Cup (german) and the 981 Cayman GT4 Clubsport. Oh and the sounds are absolute god-tier! It does miss some details that ACC does really well like: rattling noises, and the detailed TC and ABS sounds. But it's the only sim that convinced me I'm listening to actual engines and not sound samples that are stitched together.

The graphics in ACC don't come with a caveat of bad optimiastion. What you're saying Ermin is a bit bullshit. It isn't badly optimised nowadays. It just requires a lot of horsepower than any other sim while being a lot more pleasing to the eye than any other sim. Optimisation and performance aren't the same thing. Optimisation as the name suggests is about optimising the workload required to run given software. But still even amazingly optimised graphics-intensive game is going to demand a lot more from the hardware than awful looking totally not optimised game.

Volumetric fog, motion blur and post processing comes to mind. Im actually getting a very stable 60 and above at 3200 / 1800 on a humble Vega 56 by just switching a couple of things to low or off. People seem to think ACC's performance is GPU bound, when it's not. I used to run mid/high graphics at 75-50 FPS at 1080p with my Ryzen 2400g and GTX 1060. I upgraded to a Ryzen 3600 and my FPS went up to 80+ to 60 with everything on high. I now have a RTX 2060 and can run everything in Epic at 80+ FPS and the GPU isn't even at 80% load. There's a lot of physics calculations going on at all times, so in order to improve performance I'd advice upgrading the CPU. Also, ACC has worse performance in single player than in multiplayer because of all the AI and shit. As OP said, ACC is really well optimized, it's just a very intensive game.

I saturated in game to 120, use 100 in Nvidia Freestyle and also Digital Vibrance at 80. Also my TV settings. All that together made ACC graphics look very very nice. Sun, cloudy, morning, evening, sunset, night, rain,... cars, colors, Spa circuit,.. alll very nice ! 🏁💯 My only big complaint about ACC is: there is no Nordschleife I know it’s official Blancpain/GT world Challenge simulator but still.... It feels empty without Nordschleife. And I only drive in ACC 24/7 so I have no interest in other sims where Nordschleife is.

I still would like to see a video of you driving some of those cars in race room. I have played all of them including the original R factor and many variants of early racing sim titles. Race room is better than project cars one and two. I would say the force feedback is a little lackluster still but much improved over the years. I find The driving model to be on par with all of the current Sims. And the sounds are considered the best on the market to this day with the possible exception of ACC. The DTM series and some of the touring cars are better than any other representation that I’ve driven in any of the other simulator games. I would be very interested to see you drive some of those cars and break down to what you feel is lacking. I would find that very interesting as your opinion is highly regarded.

I'm not a "fanboy" by any stretch. I have all the sims (but I don't do Iracing anymore). ACC is almost unplayable for me in VR which is so sad as it's hands down the best right now. For just an overall package I find Raceroom the best bang for the buck. It is fantastic in VR. Decent load times. Ranked races 24/7. Constantly updating and delivering new cars/tracks. Leaderboards are super fun for the hotlappers. It's my go-to.. I played a million hours of AC but it's way past it's prime.. although sol/shaders have made it look a million times nicer. I've given rF2 so many chances and it is just a huge headache.. Their price model is not that great either. Ams2 runs great in VR but with almost zero online multiplayer it sinks it.

1.) I COMPLETELY agree with your comment about iRacing's business (pricing) practices. I'll probably drive it for a few season this year; but their level of development compared to the amount of revenue they have coming in monthly, is woeful. 2.) I'd love a tutorial video on how to set up a server in RF2 and ACC. I fought my way through learning RaceRoom several years ago; but haven't had the appetite to tackle the same undertaking with ACC. I'd be happy to host RF2/ACC tracks if I ever figured out how to set up the servers. 3.) ALL sims need to take a hint from AMS2! Setting up a server is such a joy!! I often host my own lobbies and just hotlap until others join (which always happens). I think AMS2 has a ton of potential. At first I was shocked & dismayed that they chose the Madness Engine; but now I wonder if it wasn't the best long-term choice. The drivability isn't perfect by any stretch; but with some refinement I think they could become epic. And I'm able to max out settings with 120+ FPS on moderate PC hardware. I love your videos! They're top notch! If I can get the time zone difference to work out, I'd love to join one of your community races. Cheers!

iRacing by far is the most rounded, just because of the things most of these games lack, and that's multiplayer. Most people want to compare themselves to someone else, and although I don't race Road very often, a good battle going into a corner next to a real person with risk is what makes iRacing the premiere multiplayer title in any modern sim racer booklet.

Still cant claim it's a review for the best driving sims 2021 when you dont include the two biggest. Plus his reasons are flawed. Rf2 you need to pay extra for tracks, cars the base content is lackluster at best. Iracing subscription runs the servers and to be frank there is nothing that comes close at this moment in time
@vbence12
@vbence12 3 жыл бұрын
@@mac-li6du well yeah, but you once you paid for the tracks and cars they are yours to keep, with iracing you still pay for those and after that you have to keep putting down monthly installments to keep them and if one day they decide to shut down the servers you lose everything because it's 100% online only (although the same probably goes for some other Sims). Also all the other games manage to keep server up and running witouth subscriptions. Don't get me wrong, I'm not here just to argue. I have iracing, it's a great game, easily the best driving feel and most fun I had with a sim (I'm not qualified to talk about how realistic the physic is) but once my 3 month subscription I don't know if I will renew it again. It's only expensive for the sake of being expensive, just to "keep out the bad apples" but the lower levels are still a mess of people pushing and shoving eachother around

iRacing is for sure a bit odd (yes I read the reasoning and tbh I get it but still), but leaving out AC actually makes sense here. We know it's older, we know it doesn't drive quite as well, and we know it doesn't have a native 720S GT3. No point in having it when its successor does GT3 racing better in almost every way (and I say that as someone who doesn't really like ACC).

Thanks for an enjoyable video. That AMS2 setup is quite strange ... In all my previous sims, and real life, I have rarely found negative toe-in to be a good idea. Negative front and neutral rear? Sometimes, on very fast tracks with sweeping turns, but usually a click or two of positive toe-in to keep the rear pointed in the right direction. As you said, AMS2 is quirky 😀.

sorry for google translation I can't understand this AMS2 bashing. The SIM has only been on the market for a very short time and is being continuously developed. Renato reports to the beta forum daily and provides information. If you want to experience the potential of what AMS2 has, you should drive the GT1 on Spa simply divine, if the AMS2 developers keep this development for a longer or short period of time, resulting in an excellent simulation. What is ACC looking for in this comparison which only covers GT3 and recently GT4? All the others are racing simulators with plenty of content, ACC is a Gt3 Only Sim. Many people can't do anything with these boring GT3s.

very good profound comparison that i find spot on in most aspects. Except, though not contracting to what you say, besides it's somehow "different" physics behaviour, AMS2 can deliver a very intense, immersive and rewarding driving feeling - at least in VR. And AMS2 has very realistic dry-juice rubber-flex squeak tire sound when it comes to abrupt and bouncing weight shifts. Even better than in Race-Room. However, indeed rF2's physics in combination with the responsive intuitive FFB delivers an outstanding experience that puts the driving experience and therefore 'pleasure of driving' to a different and superior level. Due to its a realism and agility you can drive responsive, 'spontaneous', you can feel out the car and track as you can do in real life. And in VR rF2 graphics are great and very well optimised for 90fps. If rF2 had a more and better "commercialised" over-all-accessibility and a solid online multiplayer eco-system it could blow all other sims out of the water. Since then one can be happy to have actually 5 sims (ACC, rF2, AMS2, iRacing, R3E) that deliverer all on very high level these days, with ongoing efforts to get even better.

If I understand correctly, rF2's biggest + is its physical tyre model and biggest -- is its outdated physics engine code. So if it safe to say that, if we separate tyre model and 'physics' (~aero and mechanical grip and setup interaction), we get to the following? TYRE MODEL: 1. rF2, 2. ACC (actually 1. rF2, 2. ACC, 3. AC, 4. R3E, 5. iR, and I spare characters by not even listing AMS2) PHYSICS: 1. ACC, 2. rF2 (actually 1. iR, 2. ACC, 3. rF2, 4. R3E, 5. AC) FORCE FEEDBACK: 1. rF2, 2. ACC (actually 1. rF2, 2. iR, 3. AC w/ CSP, 4. ACC, 5. R3E) Where tyre model is a VERY close contest between rF2 and ACC what with rF2's better limit behaviour and ACC's better-simulated tyre temperature effects - and FFB is getting ever closer too with ACC's improvements. N.B.: You're quickly becoming my new favourite sim racing channel, as informative as Empty Box was cca. 2013-2014 - especially as Jimmy lost all his charisma for me after being a %!/"@#& to constructive criticism from me a few months ago. All the iracing fans are butt hurt. I helped develop and test iracing in its infancy (miss my trans am series racing) . We discussed the pay model back then and knew it would be the one thing that kept players away. A lot went into iracing so yeah I get it. And the pay model is a barrier for wreckers and griefers but it also locks out a lot of good folks that just can't afford it. I still maintain my original tester philosophy that the pay model will attract the elite snobs and push out the lower level folks. It was true then and it's true now. It's a game at the end of the day. None of these titles are like real life actually. The only thing that is just like real life racing is the snobbery.

ACC clearly has become the GT3 sim of choice currently. Where I think rFactor truly shines, and what some people may overlook as they focus mostly on the modern GT cars, is that rFactor 2 is god like when you drive a car that relies heavily on mechanical grip where you really have to slide through and out of corners to really carry speed. It's really where the physical tire model shows vs the Gt3 cars which are more aero dependent. The Mclaren M23 at the Nurburgring in rF2 is genuinely one of the most fun experiences you can have in a sim. It's the only time I've driven the Nurburgring on a sim and genuinely felt afraid to go full throttle, yet you still feel that with the right amount of skill, and nuance, you can really push the car to its absolute limit. You really get to understand just how difficult and exciting racing an old f1 car around that track was. It's truly controlled lack of control in the best possible way. Another great match for old F1 cars in rF2 is Lime rock park with no chicanes. It's all high speed where you have to trust your car, your ability to get the nose in and slide through the corner. AMS 2 I don't really have much to say on... It's simply just not there yet. It has potential, and Reiza is a capable developer, but they have a ways to go.

Dude I do not agree with you on content in rfactor 2 as the quality of the content isn't great and also because studio 397 constantly keeps updating their stuff, most of the mods are broken
@Bazzookie
@Bazzookie 3 жыл бұрын
I disagree, the studio 397 content is pretty top tier, The Gt3 cars are good, but the Mclaren F1 cars are pratty damn great, and their laser scanned tracks like Spa, Sebring, The Nürburgring, etc are extremely well done. The mods are just like the mods for the original rFactor one, some absolutely suck, some are phenomenal. there's 1970's era F1 mod that I'm pretty sure uses Studio 397's physics and tire model as a foundation and it's quite good to drive for example, and the lidar data based tracks like Laguna Seca, or some of the conversions from Assetto Corsa like Mugelo are really good to drive. Whenever you have a game that's open to modding the content is going to be incredibly inconsistent. Assetto corsa is the same way. You have guys like RSS that make mods you'd think were made by Kunos themselves, and then you have crap cars that drive like a boat with bike tires trying to turn on a patch of ice. rF2's modding community is just smaller so you have to know how to dig out the gems and avoid the crap.

usually I play Rfactor 2 only for the Formula E championship so my experience with R factor is based on that entirely but from my limited time driving them there is so much to get used to and they drive so much differently to Formula 2 or Formula 3 cars. I don’t know if anyone else has had the same experiences as I have but they feel so cumbersome and boat like on the rear but then at the same time the rear can really move around quite a lot and then equally, they also have quite a pointy front end which you can really lean on and dart into corners combined with very grabby brakes. I’ll use the Dyriah street circuit as an example here but the car seems to be in two minds of its own almost which is incredibly off putting. 90% of the time the car feels like one solid piece that’s incredibly lazy and cumbersome on the rear meaning you really have to crank the steering to get it to turn, but then at the same time when pushing the car hard the rear will dance around a lot and the front end will switch between being pointy and then weighted. And when coming into a heavy breaking zone the brakes just don’t really have any feel to them, It feels like the cars going to grab an inside front right and lock up going straight on

Hello Ermin, i wanted to make you a little correction, ACC technically allows for mods, they just do know how to integrate them in the game, and they don't want to support directly that, the problem is that UE4 is not a proprietary engine, so it needs to be rebuilt and resigned everytime you add something, leading to the main problem of Kunos having to release the source code in order to compile it with the mods integration, with Assetto Corsa all that was easy since the proprietary engine allowed them to build an integration API for the apps used to modify the game. They won't condemn mods, they will just not support them in case someone finds a way to integrate the mods into the game. Anyways thank you for the comparison, spot on as always (:

Competition between sim it's always good because developers have to evolve their product to keep up and that's what's happening and it's good for us the community

For me, you can keep GT3. Not interested in any sim, it's too dull. Prototypes & formulas only for me & therefore it has to be rF2. No contest.

You make lots of contradictory statements and sometimes wrong. On 39:30 you say that the FFB of RF2 is the holy grail even on low end wheels. Let me say this: I have AC, ACC, RRE, PC2, AMS2 and RF2. RF2 feels the worse on my G29. The worse! Even worse than PC2 arguably. I've tried everything under the sun to make it feel better but I fail. And that's on official GTE content and official Nordshleife. Again when I posted about in the Simracing FB group, lota of people on low end wheels agreed with me and said that when they jumped to a CSW2.5 or DD wheel, RF2 felt amazing; which is a big fail in itself. Why does AC or AMS2 or RRE feel amazing on my low end wheel but not RF2?!

I've never driven rFactor 2, but there seems to be way too much oversteer for a GT3 car. Great video, though.

Rfactor 2 was the biggest let down for me. Setups have their own physics model and are alien to real world application. The tyre model is so ‘good’ that cars improve lap times until the point you can get round Nurburgring gp in a gt3 car in 1:50 seconds which is 4 seconds quicker than the real world record. It rewards lazy driving and it’s nearly impossible to spin a car on the limit. Such an overrated game, ACC dominates without questions by doing the opposite of all the above!

I'm not sure how many people who own a wheel and play these games will ever get a chance to drive a GT3 car, or even get in one. thats why AC is still my favorite of them all. nothing gets close to real life as driving a 200hp car with steet tires.

Can’t take any list seriously without iracing included. It’s easily (and I really mean that) the best racing sim, if not the best driving sim, whether or not you like the cost. It can be a lot at first but costs next to nothing compared to all the wheels, rigs, pedals and PCs sim racers buy. To then exclude one sim because of the cost is like excluding Heusinkveld from a list of pedals because of the costs. BTW, ACC is terrific fun to drive and I love driving it.

Its a rubbish GT3 sim for sure. Proof of it - try driving on abs, like you are supposed to in GT3 car. :) Not mentioning tyres lighting up on fire after a slightest of slides. P.S. Last time I had a subscription was almost a year ago, so maybe something changed, but besides the mentioned things I could never find a good setting for my CSW 2.5 with it. On my friends Accuforce DD it felt better.

@@theaveragecarguy770 GT cars in general got a complete overhaul in the last two seasons. The ABS point still stands, which is quite sad tbh, but the tires are a lot more believable now. you can catch slides and if they overheat you can chill out for a couple of corners and they become derivable again. GTE is bloody amazing right now

What about doing a comparison between ACC and AC? I know that you said the physics engine lags behind which I believe is true as well but would love to see a side by side comparison and what not. Perhaps it turns out that AC is far better than we thought etc. Either way great video!

Sorry to stick in an iracing comment, but I don't think its a coincidence that iracing is more expensive but has by FAR (by far I mean 2nd is like a dot on the horizon) the best online racing. Keeping the online servers going; the quantity, variety and the quality of the service they provide can't be done on a single payment business model otherwise others wouldn't find it so hard to provide the same online experience. To say its toxic is harsh, its just it is what it is. In general its a fairly cheap hobby.
@LithFox
@LithFox 3 жыл бұрын
Simple to put: iRacing is an MMO Simulator. It treats its servers as "instances" and is tightly bound in its rules and competitions. Done. That's it. That's why there isn't any competition because no one does that and if they WANTED to, they'd either have to put a lot of effort into reformatting into a similar payment service OR rely heavily on F2P style format monetization (eg: War Thunder, World of Tanks, etc)

paying a monthly amount for the servers I could understand for the full game but having to pay more than 1500 dollar to have everything ingame is insane. Paying the monthly fee for the basegame is not worth it.

You're actually not quite correct. Gran Turismo Sport has really good online racing and you can pick it up for under £20. You can even buy a PS4 to run it and it will still cost a lot less than iRacing. Purists will laugh but try checking out some online videos from the likes of Super GT and Tidgney. It's far better than what you'd think and includes a built in safety rating system. :)

I find the iRacing thing quite funny, especially the guys with the super expensive hardware. In a recent discussion I've tallied up what I've spent on iR in the past 6 years (content + subscription) and it was less than the amount they spent on their equipment alone. Joke is, they refuse to play iRacing but spend 90% of their time complaining and trying to find a decent race or league in some of the other sims, meanwhile the immense amount of enjoyment I've had on iR on my low end equipment was very much worth the money. Also a few years ago, there wasn't the availability of leagues in other sims like there is now, so iRacing was the best bet for that multilayer experience. That's the end all for me, I don't care much for single player / AI driving regardless of how much better a title feels. However, I will say that you put together a good video. Thanks for your contribution to the sim community!
