My name is Paulo Leite, and music is a fundamental part of my life. I started buying music records when I was a kid, and never stopped.
On this episode of The Best Record Shops, I am visiting Lemezkuckó, in beautiful Budapest, Hungary. This is a decades-old record shop that's well-known among music lovers in the city. This is a big collection with many thousands of CDs and vinyl records. This shop is one beautiful mess, where anywhere you look, you will find great albums. Seriously, there is so much to see here, that I had to break the video in two parts. On this part, I will look at their CD collection.
I loved every minute I spent there... digging for gold (and I found it!).
LEMEZKUCKÓ
Budapest, Király u. 67, 1077 Hungary
Phone Number: +3613511218
G338+FJ Budapest, Hungary
lemezkucko.hu
Usually open week days from 10am to 06pm
On Saturdays, open from 10am to 01pm (closed on Sundays).
Why am I making these videos? Because I hate to see record shops die. Streaming is NOT music. Streaming is just background noise. Buy CDs. Buy vinyl. Buy whatever physical format you like. Buy music. Buy movies. Buy books. Our culture is our biggest asset. It's not free. There is no feeling like sitting down in order to enjoy a music record by your favourite Artist, holding it on your hand, appreciating its artwork, reading liner notes, putting the record on the player, and pressing the Play button.

Hi 👋 Greetings from New Zealand. I would love to visit this store. I have been collecting cds for some years now. I saw many there that i would buy. I have a diverse range of different genres of music from the 1960s to the early 2000s.

@@BestRecordShops Us Dollars ? Not surprising so records are highly Priced here in the bay area for the most part were as used cds are becoming almost non exisitant but when I find them there not normally more then One or two Dollars a disc usuallly they end up in our Local thrift stores There very slowly making a come back. Im a prog rock collector so i gotta go out of the way to find tiles I want from more obscure bands you rarely see on our side of the Pond,... Berkeley cal amoeba records is still an exception for rare finds of course vinyl as well which i still embrace...

Gotta say it's horribly stacked and extremely overpriced for even records in bad condition. Likely the worst second hand record shop in Budapest

Isn’t Hungry a dictatorship? “Black Music” wtf. To be honest all the classic rock should be in that section since rock and roll just ripped off the Black blues players.

Black blues was not an original music form. It was black slaves copying traditional Irish and other European spirituals and folk music they heard in America. According to politically correct historians Rock music, including Rockabilly developed out of black Rhythm and Blues in the mid 1950's. However The Maddox Brothers and Rose, a White band were playing Rockabilly as early as 1946! I admire Van Morrison because he is the only mainstream artist with the balls to admit this publicly. There's an interview here on YT from 1988 where he explains this history.

First, let's get the obvious out of the way: Hungary is not a dictatorship. We have a prime minister, who balances on the edge of a liberal democracy and something else: hybrid regime, maffia state etc. As someone who wishes for less corruption, fair game at elections etc. the state we are in is quite depressing, but as someone who lived in actual Soviet Union influenced socialist dictatorship, I can tell you that the difference is huge! You can express your opinion, it just doesn't matter, you may leave the country, oppositional leaders aren't falling from the 10th floor and so on. When you use big words, remember what you are actually saying. Second, Black Music: yes, you may argue that many of the other categories were either developed or heavily influenced by black musicians, but remember that these are genres that became much more universal, and especially here in Central Europe we may be more familiar with their whiter versions. Blues is the best example: here in Hungary people who listen to blues primarily listen to British Blues Invasion, Blues Rock and so on. Of course, there are exceptions, but that is the rule of thumb. But, there are musical genres, that over here are to this day primarily associated with black performers: soul, gospel, hip hop, american disco, funk etc. There is nothing derogatory in the way it is used in this store. Not that it is in the storage room, or under the racks in cardboard boxes, it receives prime attention, but not big enough to further split into more precise categories.
