I love both. 500 year old leather is cool. Thank you.

4:50 I think the pommel looks great with the little nut on top. As it was meant to be there.

Interesting point about using a peen block. Do you guys do a lot of rehiltings? Do we get one mulligan if we change our mind after receiving the sword and want to change the grip shape lol?

Gorgeous sword. One of the first longswords I bought was the Windlass replica of this sword and it's kind of hilarious; they must have gotten the dimensions wrong, like squishing up an image in MS Paint, because it's way too short and stubby, so it behaves in a very interesting (not particularly good) way in the hand.

A difference that I notice is that the handle riser is much closer to the hilt in the reproduction, The handle shape is also a bit different.

Was the guard of the original gilded? It kinda looking like that in some of the shots.

No, there's no evidence of gilding on this sword, and I'd be quite surprised if it ever were. This is really a weapon of war more than the counts showpiece.

Looks like your dimesion for the grip is off, looks like the riser swell was placed too high, the original had one full hand in there, this one looks like it came up short. awesome job on everything else!

The grips on original swords were also adapted to their users. What worked great for one person might need to be tweaked to the preferences of another. Another interesting thing, that sword was probably regrouped during its use life. The owner may well have experimented with different shapes and sizes..

This is actually one of the reasons why we use pommel nuts whenever we can on our swords. When you buy a piece and use it, you may want to change it later.

It's kind of funny how you demonstrate and praise the benefit of the grip shape on the original, and throw that completely over board on the reproduction, by making something that just somehow looks like it the original but doesn't have the same functionality.

lol I was just posting this! I think it's probably a simple error in hand-making on this individual sword. Trying to be generous with the assessment while also speaking the truth.

It's one of the benefits of the fact that every single piece is handmade, we can craft them to the desires of the client, including their hand size and preference if it's important to them.
