I feel like EVERY Strymon review should deep dive into all the hidden functions and parameters. Most people don't even know you can save presets and/or set a foot controller to control ANY function on the pedal.

@ it’s really a wonderful pedal. I keep thinking that I should go for one of these newer fancy reverb boxes that do 500 things, but there’s something about the simplicity and fidelity of the flint that I just can’t let go of 🤷‍♂️

Hi 👋 I am planning to purchase the Flint. I only have 1 question. Where do I put it in my signal chain? After my delay pedals or after? Thanks! 🙏😊
@SuperdangerStudios
@SuperdangerStudios 2 жыл бұрын
The Flint is a great pedal. There are actually many different places to put it depending on what you would want. If you are playing into a clean amp or modeler then you can put it last in the chain before it goes into the amp. If you have an FX loop on your amp, then you can put it there but after the delay and modulation. If you are playing into a modeler with an IR built in, then you can put it after the modeler like I did in this video. Just make sure the room sound is at zero. Additionally, you can disable the IR and put the Flint after the Iridium and then add an IR in your DAW or via a two notes cab M+. Hope this helps!

Oh wow Alex-your reverb quit on your Blues Jr. and you just bought the Flint to "fix' that issue? Impressive-and hilarious! Reminds me of when I bought this Joyo Bluejay last year, I don't like playing dry either (it bugs the hell out of me actually). I knew it didn't have reverb when I bought it, that's when I realized just how bad my reverb addiction was. Ended up getting a Boss Reverb pedal which if IIRC cost as much as the Joyo! And it isn't something I play through much-- a fine investment-yikes! So being a gearhead--is that a G&L ASAT Tele that you're playing? A buddy had one and I really should've bought one at some point. Really nice axes! Those Lollers also sound fantastic. Do you have a vid on your guitar collection? So the Flint is a really nice pedal. That plate reverb that you used for the volume swells was gorgeous! Later on that was a nice bit of volume swell work for that cool pattern. That cool word count was hilarious by the way! Being able to use both the verb and the tremolo is a nice feature. Loved the 80's reverb-Bryan Adam's indeed! Bob Clearmountain's production was so sublime. Not really in the market for this kind of pedal but Strymon makes impressive ones! It seems that everyone and their brother has an El Capstan on their pedalboard, eventually it'd be nice to have one. All the work you do on your videos is appreciated, your sense of humor, use of the pedal in great songs you've written ( nice!) as well as delving into the psychological aspects of reverb was great. I can dig it--expansive views on the whole realm of how it affects the player. I totally agree, that immersive aspect really gets the creative juices flowing. The sage advice on pedal addiction at the end was great-too funny!

Hi Marcus. haha yeah it was an investment but I've had the Blues jr for almost 25 years and didn't want to put any more money into it and knew I would get more use out of a great reverb pedal which I also needed for more ITB work I was getting. But it wasn't cheap that's for sure. The telecaster is actually an old Fender 52 RI. The truss rod broke and I needed to replace it, and ended up replacing a bunch of other stuff with it as well. Lollar pickups, gotoh bridge. I did a video on it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHvFf3mVnb6lsM0 I love the ASATs though but I realized that G&L necks end up hurting my hand bc of the string width. Bob Clearmountain and Bryan Adams created one of the best albums of all time and I constantly look to it for inspiration on mixing, writing, and how they use space/depth. Reverb is a weird thing right? It makes you feel something very different than an overdrive or a phaser. It makes you feel small in a way. I think there is a lot to explore there in terms of how we interpret noise. Enjoy the weekend! -Alex

@@SuperdangerStudios That Tele is really something, so it IS a '52 reissue. I see those old butternut bodies and always get a Roy Buchanan vibe from them. That Warmoth flamed maple neck is purty! Looks like it plays like butter, checked out the vid, nice chops and it's quite versatile. It's a shame that you had to spend the extra money but hey, as you mentioned you have exactly what you want and that makes it worth it. Wasn't aware of the string width issue on G&Ls, that's a drag. Yes, "Reckless" is one of those iconic albums,. it's mixed brilliantly. What guitar tones! "Cuts like a Knife" isn't bad either. Great rock songwriting. I really agree with your take on reverb, there is something intrinsic about it that makes the music breathe. As you mentioned, our cave dwelling days may have an influence on how we like to hear sound. I wondered what happened in the late 90's and into the 2000's, it seemed like everyone was going "roots" oriented with these ultra dry recordings. Dry vocals after awhile tend to grate on my nerves, unless the singer is incredible. Put a little 'verb on them and they are even more incredible-ha! One album I've always loved is "Surrealistic Pillow" by Jefferson Airplane, it's positively drenched in reverb. It sounds gorgeous, the vocal harmonies are excellent and the music has so much depth and space. Luscious! Another album I've always loved is "Avalon" by Roxy Music, produced by Rhett Davies. Moderate use of reverb but it is lovely and the clarity and warmth of the mix is beyond belief. And, of course, I've always loved Peter Green's playing--he used reverb so well. "The Supernatural","The Green Manalishi" and "Albatross" are so haunting, heavy and dreamy. Speaking of reverb units, I must have about 20,000 trackers (ha ha) on my laptop. I check stuff out and the "suggestions" with pretty pictures come through en masse. Perfect for those like me that have that "shiny object syndrome"-ooh nice! Magpies and crows have nothing on me! I saw this Walrus Audio Slo Multi Texture reverb and checked out the demo. I'm sure you've heard it--I liked the slow Rise effect and it seems to have some unique settings with a good mix knob so you can make it really subtle if you so choose. The Flint is a better pedal though. I bought a Wampler Ethereal sort of on impulse awhile back and it was pretty nice, but didn't really knock me out. It seems a bit limited. There certainly is no shortage of pedals these days, eh? Hope you had a good weekend-Cheers!

Is the revival drive in Power amp mode? Because it’s sounding too good for power amp mode… I also have one and the thing sounds really lifeless without an amp sim in front. I don’t get this texture you are getting just using an IR. Great video man. This channel is becoming one of my favourites

Did I hear that correctly, your putting the flint after the irridium?
@SuperdangerStudios
@SuperdangerStudios 2 жыл бұрын
Yes that’s correct I put the flint after the iridium. the studio reverbs like the plate in the hall would typically go after a cab anyway when recording but I probably should’ve used the spring reverb in between the preamp to simulate an amp. That would’ve been more authentic. In the videos I’ve done after this I put the spring river in between iridium in the IR to create a mock effects loop
