The introduction confused me for so long, now I can see that the same shift happens as in the section you treat and it makes perfect sense, thanks to your explanation

This is similar to the part after the guitar solo in blackened by Metallica. The guitars never change but the drums shift the groove by 1 x 16th note (and back again) and it makes it feel totally different. Art of guitar broke it down pretty well

Really cool explanation, even though I don't know the song. I think there is a similar rhythmic shift (from 12/8 to 4/4) in the song Iluminate by Leprous. Also if you could one day do a video about Leprous - The Sky is Red (especially the final part of the song) it would be awesome and extremly insightful!

I don't have any strong musical knowledge but I came up with that logic ages ago because of two things: Metal music Blasting my music very high before putting my headphones. I would notice another perceived song/beats. It helped me realize the existence of syncopation and how it could be shifted (not really) by the high hats. Now I always play in my head with alternate version of songs that I enjoy by shifting some stuff. It's relaxing but I'm still confused as fuck when I hear the intro of "Taste My" by Chimaira. Like my brain prefer the groovy interpretation and is always disappointed when the rest of the drum is catching up on beat lol.

@@YogevGabay I just listen a few other songs and page one...I fucking love this song. My mind is as warming as I listen meshuggah to understand what he's doing. I think he change the feeling of the pulse for just a quadruplet late the most part of one measure one two while hiting the snare before the pulse as he wants while( and I'm not sure of that because I'm just a guitarist ;) and it depends of the parts of the song :) he's sometimes quite very early on the beat/time , which is very rare in funk music I beleive. ( Don't know all this is understandable because I' m french and never practice speaking english !). But your're right he's a great killer. I hardly can stop trying to understand more precisely his groove which is such strange and unique. I feel my limits as a non drummer. He's more complexe than thomas haake. He reminds me a bit "morgan agren" (known for jaming with frederick thordental from meshug , and playing zappa's song when was 12 years old) and I don't really know why yet. I'll investigate.
@YogevGabay3 жыл бұрын
Oh you should. He has a book that has a bunch of information in it called "Future Sounds" and it's great, It has a lot of drum notation obviously, but it expands on this topic a lot. These are all monster players, and as a guitar player I think you'd benefit a lot from listening to these drummers! Do you know Mattias Eklundh?
