Smoked Salmon was a special gift from my ex sister-in-law. She would send me cases so many years ago. Above and beyond what she would need for the family. She would catch, clean, marinade, smoke and can right off the banks. Was the best tasting fish I'd ever eaten. Excellent video and so happy for you.

What a well done video. Loved the trip prep, river adventures, (the fishing was great too) but the fish processing and cooking were total surprises and bonuses. The smoking and canning were done so well. Felt like I was watching someone who has run restaurants and commercial kitchens in another life. Thank you for producing and sharing this great trip. I'll get to Alaska some day!

Smoked salmon from the Copper river in Chitina Alaska. We camped in a wall tent near McCarthy in 1980. We hiked up to see the old copper mine structures. The Kennicott glacier late in the night gave off an alpine glow in the sky. It was a magical time for me - 22 years old and new to Alaska. Lived in Alaska for many years before heading for warmer weather. Love the video. True modern Alaska adventure.

Kris DeVo, Gotta love the Vacmaster VP215 bought mine from the same place you got your bags from, Alaska Butcher Supply. That machine is hands down the best purchase of my life. Had it for 12 years now and put close to 10-11,000 bags of Alaskan goodies through it!!! Only had to change the oil bout twice a year and put a few new seal strips on it in all those years. Congrats on the Copper River success. Ive been there 3 times now and still have yet to catch a fish. Its all about timing the run there...

Smoked Salmon I worked as a chef for 15 years, now I work for an import and domestic seafood distribution company. I've worked in fisheries for about 7 years now, up and down the southeastern US. Copper river salmon is like gold in the restaurant industry, especially kings. I definitely agree that locals should be the only to harvest there to maintain the fisheries. Great video. Awesome eagle footage.

Nice video footage! Thanks for posting and sharing it. When I was a young boy back in the early 1950's, my parents grew watermelons in N.E. Oregon near the Columbia River. Native Americans did a lot of successful dip netting in those days for salmon in the Columbia. My parents couldn't afford to buy fish, and so they traded watermelons for fresh salmon. Called survival.
