Damn. I chose poorly. Emmrich just talked about Lichdom with such longing that I didn't want him to give up his dream. But seeing him looking at Manfred and saying: I wouldn't exchange this for lichdom. Thinks I'll have to go back to a previous save and undoing hours of work...

for all this game's flaws and problems, i feel like we can all agree that Manfred is the best part of it

Reviving Manfred breaks the entire point of Emmerichs quest line, but I also really loved that little skeleton bastard. I can count on one hand the things that made me feel anything. Manfred's sacrifice was one of them. They cheated, by making him such an animated little fella, kinda like Ian in Infinite Warfare, but I digress. In my playthrough he stayed dead, as that was the final hurdle for Emmerich.

And thus the world has a new defender against dark forces of evil. Manfred: The Skeleton Mage!

It's true that bringing Manfred back would mean giving up his lifelong dream of lichdom but there is also beauty in it. By sacrificing his dreams for Manfred, also shows his growth as a person and finally embracing life as a whole. This also shows he's finally ready and having the courage to face mortality head on which is the one thing that scares him the most. This is my opinion when I also made this choice. But it warms my heart to see Emmrich finally embracing mortality and also seeing how proud and happy he is with Manfred becoming a mage and growing up like a son he never has.

Yes! When he becomes a lich, he avoids his greatest fear - death. But that comes at a cost: he loses love. First, he loses Manfred, and second, if your Rook romances him, he’ll eventually lose Rook too. He’ll outlive everyone he loves. If you choose to revive Manfred, Emmrich will lose his dream and escape from his fear, but he’ll have love for the rest of his life. It’s also healthy to come to terms with one’s own mortality.

@ yup, that’s very human ☺️

I encouraged him to chase lichdom not necessarily because it was Emmerichs dream but because of everything else we learned in the Necropolis and the Mourn Watch - Manfred sacrificed and died, but death is part of the cycle and also not the end - I feel like bringing him back went against what Emmrich and the Mourn Watched taught.

@ yea that’s actually true as well. But everyone has their own opinion on this situation.

@@solaranceshiro1643 definitely and its an RPG, I am not trying to invalidate your choices, just offering a different perspective.

I've (already) gone through the game twice, but I'll never decide to opt for Lich. Manfred is too cute and his act was too sincere to just dump him
