Miami Vice Season 04 Episode 20 :: A Bullet for Crockett
I just finished binge watching all 5 seasons of Miami Vice. WHAT A SHOW. No idea what I've been missing. I made my own list of the top "obscure" episodes of Miami Vice: lopezvideo.net/blog/12/16/2017
But there's one episode that didn't make it on the list...
A Bullet for Crockett. The reason is simple: it's the 2nd worse episode in the entire show (the winner goes to "Leap of Faith"). But that INTRO scene - holy shit!
That intro scene is my #1 favorite scene in the entire season. It's got tension, fate, sex, life, death, pop, urban, nothing, everything, PERFECT! This is how you cinema.
PS: This show is universally iconic for its use of Phil Collins's "In The Air Tonight" in its pilot episode "Brother's Keeper" (Season 01 Episode 01). But what most people don't know is that the song is used for a second time in the series... In this episode, in this scene. And in my opinion, THIS is the defining / iconic use of the song... Not the pseudo-romantic fragment-poem bullshit they tried to pull off in the first episode, which caught on for some reason (I guess people really love shots of cars driving at night in a neon-glowing city...)

This is just too funny. I remember sneaking downstairs in 84/85, when I was about 5 years old and catching the end of The Terminator. It was the part where Kyle and Sarah were being chased into the factory at the end when the Terminator was right behind them and just closed the door behind them with barely enough time to spare. I went back upstairs and hid under the sheets in the dark, thinking it was real and was coming after me next.

One thing which can be said about Don Johnson is he's a true professional. Many actors who starred in a series eventually grew tired of the role and their performance showed that they wanted out. As Miami Vice neared its end, the press turned against the show and viewership dropped but Johnson never walked through an episode, he gave his everything to each scene he was in and it showed. Its admirable and impressive.

Johnson was iconic but I would have to say the same for Michael-Thomas.As a matter of fact,one of my favorite episodes was "Borraska" in which Johnson was absent.Of course the show could not have continued without Johnson,but that one episode was excellent without him.One of my personal problems with the way the show progressed was that Tubbs' role was gradually diminished from "partner" to "sidekick" which for me lessened the shows appeal when compared to the first season.Still a great show but one that failed to make full use all of the talent available.

This show _is_ the 80s. The fashions, music, cars, big hair. I also think Crockett and Tubbs were one of best buddy duos ever in a cop show. It's got Michael Mann touches all over it: great high contrast night shots with primary colors, interesting firearms, the music in the soundtrack. Very binge-watchable.

For me the best scene of Miami Vice is the ending of the episode "Out where the busses don't run." Brothers in Arms by Dire Straights is playing, Crockett and Tubbs in Crocketts Ferrari Spider going to the location of a decades old mystery murder that drove a detective crazy trying to figure it out. This was a great scene. But to me the greatest scene was the finally shoot out on the last episode. It was being reported that one of them was going to die in the last episode, so I remember watching that final shoot out on pins and needles when I was a kid... Not to mention, it was just the two of them going against 8 or 10 men... and they did it running full speed to get to the escaping dictator. One more thing... that was the same place where caldorone escaped in the very first episode, but this time the bad guy was not going to get away. It was a perfect ending and I never watch it without getting goose bumps... just awesome!

When Miami Vice was aired in the 80's I was in my late teens and never watched an episode.... I was into biking and wondered what the crap was everyone seeing in this show. I'm now nearly 50 and am also binge watching Miami Vice. I have the box set and am completely hooked AND feel gutted that I never gave it a chance when it was on back then. I absolutely love this show. Can't get enough of it. As for best scene?? Thanks for the spoiler..... I haven't got this far yet. I agree, it is better than the pilot one. I didn't really get it why everyone thought it was great... but I don't live in Miami ;) So far my best moment, it has to be "Definitely Miami" at the end... on the beach., with the song "Cry" by Godley and Cream. I also love the fact that every celebrity from the 80's has to be in the show somewhere. An awesome trip down memory lane.... Now where did I put my Ray bans......

@Johnny Cade the driving scene doesn't have any dialog to it, since it's just Tubbs and Sonny driving to some meeting, so there is nothing to interfere with the song. This is a good scene for the show in this video but there is too much dialog and sound effects to be a good backdrop for the song

"Definitely Miami" Cry scene is one of the top. "When Irish Eyes Are Crying", not a great episode but when they blow up the Daytonna, Great scene. "Freefall", Tell Me by Terry Kath, ending of series, probably a homage to Robert Blake in "Electric Glide In Blue"

I am proud to say I own every single episode of this show. All 5 seasons. I was a small child when my it made its original run from 84-89 but I can still recall sitting on the floor in front of the big box Magnavox TV and watching it on Friday nights. I just loved every bit of it. Seasons 1, 2, & 3 were the best. It kind of went of the rails a bit in Season 4 and then they tried to correct it in Season 5 but without Jan Hammer arranging the music for them it just didn't have the same vibe. For some strange reason, I know about everything there is to know about this show. I haven't been stumped yet. lol

Slant nose 911 (not flat nose)..........a few were factory cars, most were built from aftermarket kits that destroyed the value of the car. I have seen only a few of the "real" factory-built slant nose cars.

Yeah, those are my favorite episodes too. (Mirror Image (4/22), Hostile Takeover (5/1), Redemption in Blood (5/2)). The best were when he starts to remember who he is and then goes to the station and everyone pulls a gun on him.

Well, Tubbs usually carried that girly little .38 that likely was incapable of hitting anything more than 10 feet away. Crockett himself mostly carried a Bren Ten, chambered in .45 ACP. Now THAT was a man's gun!

Im 43 driving through Brickell listening to this iconic song is a right of passage. If you come up through Coconut grove which has a lot of canopy trees and mansions it opens up to this metropolis. It doesn’t feel like you in Miami it’s more like a movie set. Brickell is lined with canopy trees and old Miami houses. Their is a glow from downtown Miami. The area used to be super quiet but not it’s been developed.

When this first aired on TV I scraped together the money to buy a VCR with HIFI stereo tuner and this was the first show on TV to light it up with fantastic sound. I had a huge pair of HIFI speakers on either side of my 14" CRT Commodore 1701 color monitor to watch this on and it blew my roommates minds when this show came on. It is hard to express how amazing it was watching this for the first time. Really the first show to create the need for a home theater.
