A few important notes:
When I mention that "teeth face down," that's because primary teeth should always face down when cutting. However, for standard blades, it's more accurate to say that all teeth face the same direction.
Regarding blade tension: While every scroll saw may have different tension settings, all blades should ultimately be tensioned to the same "High C" note for optimal performance.

Truly appreciate the comment and your input. Agreed - that many places outside of the big box stores can give you a quality product. I speak to what I know, and I've never had an issue with Flying Dutchman. Thanks for wathcing!

@billyjay4672 Yes, you can use any pinless blade is fine. I have a whole video on blade recommendations, so I highly recommend giving that a watch. The series is a three parter in total.

Just setting up my scroll saw . What type blade should I use on deer antler? Thanks!

Awesome question! So, I've only cut antlers a few times because the smell is terrible. Based on that very limited experience- I would imagine a standard skip tooth blade could work fine, but I'm also not sure since bone is so much denser and harder than many woods. I know scrolled antlers are beautiful, but I just don't feel I have enough experience with cutting bone to give you quality advice. Sorry about that.

would you have any advice on using scroll saws with metal like copper and brass?
@theimaginationwoodshop

That's is a great question. I don't think you'll have an issue cutting softer metals such as brass, copper, and aluminum. Flying Dutchman has a few different metal specific blades such as the iron man. The big issue is heat buildup, so I like using the T-9 lubricant spray on the blade and/or the cut periodically and take breaks to ensure my metal doesn't heat too much if I'm making a big cut. Having said all of that- full disclosure, metal is not my expertise, so that is my approach that seems to work if and when I need to cut a piece of metal. Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

@@theimaginationwoodshop It does help, I am a metal worker and got my hands on a Ferm scroll saw for 25 quid. I never kept in mind that my blades might have been snapping due to heat build up. Its a good call to keep an eye on. Thanks

Can you do a video on maintaining the dealt scroll saw
@theimaginationwoodshop

Maintanence should be realtively low for this machine. The most important thing is rust prevention honestly depending on your climate. I use Boeshield T-9 Rust & Corrosion spray. Stuff is fantastic and is way better than WD-40. WD-40 will work in a pinch, but the T-9 is a better product because it doesn't attract dirt like WD-40 does. Other than that, I honestly do little to no matainance on the machine. There are little brushes in the rear underneath the motor that occasionally needs replaced, but honestly if your motor goes out or something like that - you are just better taking it into a service station that services that brand. I like the idea, but sadly, I just don't know if I could fill a video with the little bit I do which I guess is kind of a good thing. Hope that T-9 suggestion helps, and thanks for watching!
